Allusions to video games, especially those of the 8-bit era, are constantly being made within the Homestar Runner body of work. This is a list of all references to video games made in the cartoons.

Strong Bad Email

• homestar hair - Strong Bad goes to play "Temple of Apshai" as respite from the email.
• duck pond - Strong Bad brings up a Duck Pond simulation game.
• japanese cartoon - The credits to the 20X6 cartoon are lifted from Legend of Zelda for the NES.
  • One of the easter eggs for japanese cartoon shows a list of endings to NES games, including games such as Legend of Zelda, Super Mario World, and Metroid.
• 2 emails - Strong Bad plays Pigs on Head during the fast-forward.
• mascot - One of the appliances in the pile of electronics is an NES system.
• video games - Taylor R. wants to know what Strong Bad would be like in a video game. Strong Bad explains that it would depend on what system he was on.
• lunch special
• pom pom - Pom Pom beats Strong Bad up by kicking him into the air and 'juggling' him through several strikes, similar to a fighting game. Combo signs appear after his fourth, fifth and sixth strikes, and Pom Pom ultimately scores a "1-up". Sound effects from the Super Mario Bros. NES game are also heard.
• bedtime story - The Cheat and Moses Malone play NES games in Moses MaloneLand.
• highschool - Baby Strong Bad plays Adventure and is eaten by the Atari Dragon.
• secret identity - As Cara Carabowditbowdit, Strong Bad writes to Buttless in Bedstuy that she needs to play more video games.
• redesign - Strong Bad plays Sundae Drivin' on his greenscreen.
• keep cool - One of the pool rules is to, among other things, "press UP, A, and START" before re-entering the pool after eating.
• trading cards
• 4 branches - Strong Bad uses the scoring system in video games as a simile to how Homestar's stupidity functions.

Other Appearances

• In Search of the Yello Dello - Homestar, Strong Sad, and Pom Pom can be seen parodying the classic Atari 2600 game Pitfall.

• There is also a deleted scene that makes a reference to the Atari 2600 game Barnstorming.

• Stinkoman 20X6 - 1-Up is named after the video game power up of the same name.
