Transcript

{A "SPECIAL" logo appears on the screen and spins a few times as we zoom in on it. As this happens, it turns from blue to pink.}

{Cut to an auditorium that looks suspiciously like the one in the 1965 Peanuts Christmas special with Pom Pom and Homestar Runner on the sides of the stage. Strong Bad enters from stage right, strides to the middle of the stage, stops and faces front.}

STRONG BAD: Lights, please.

{The lights dim and a spotlight shines on Strong Bad. We zoom in on him as the opening bars of the music begin to play.}

STRONG BAD: {singing}
O holy crap
And something, something, something
Ah, there was this guy
And he was probably born[1]
They didn't know
If he was really stupid
{Off to the side, Homestar shows shock and budding anger.}
But then they asked somebody
And they said he {chuckles} was stupid
{Homestar looks very angry.}
He said, uh, that he was great
And ev'body believed him
That guy was {voice cracks} GREEAAAAA—

{Homestar Runner steps in front of Strong Bad.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Okay, that's enough, Strong Bad.

{Switch to close-up of Homestar Runner. As he speaks, the gang starts to congregate: Marzipan, Strong Mad, Pom Pom, and Strong Sad. In the background soft, slow Christmasy music plays: 'Everybody, everybody... Everybody, everybody...'}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Um, I think what Strong Bad is really trying to say is, "O Holy Crap." {gilt words appear on the screen with the sound of a harp and gold sparkles} Oh, no, wait, wait, wait.

{Cut to wide shot; all of the main characters except Homsar have gathered.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I mean, "Happy Holidays" {words appear again} from all of us to all of you.

{Close-up of Strong Sad.}

STRONG SAD: And God bless us every— {Homestar Runner steps in front of him.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {rushed} Sorry, Strong Sad, we're out of time here. Happy holidays everybody!! {A few moments pass.. Homestar Runner blinks.}

{The End — Copyright 1965 Free Country USA} {"everybody, everybody" can be faintly heard sung by children, accompanied by bells}

Fun Facts

Remarks

  • It should be noted that neither Decemberween nor Christmas are actually mentioned in this toon, except for the URL, which ends in "xmas.html".
  • The "Back" link at the end of this toon always goes to Main Page 6.

Goofs

  • Strong Sad looks much shorter in this toon than he usually is.
  • In the full stage shot with the words, "Happy Holidays," you can see a little bit of Coach Z's foot under the King of Town.
  • When Strong Bad sings about the guy who was born there is a black dot to the right of his head.
  • When Homestar gets angry, the skin above his "eyebrows" is a darker shade of grey than the rest.
  • At the scene where the camera shows the right of Strong Bad, Homestar's head apears slightly shrunken into his neck.

Real-World References

  • The entire toon is a reference to the 1965 A Charlie Brown Christmas special.
    • The spinning "Special" logo and music mimic one used by CBS from 1973 to the late 1980s, viewable here.
    • In addition, the auditorium with the single spotlight, the "Copyright 1965 Free Country USA" at the ending screen, and Strong Bad saying "Lights, please," much the way Linus does, reveal the connection.
    • The title of the page refers to Dolly Madison, the snack cake manufacturer that sponsored every Charlie Brown CBS special in the 1970s.

Fast Forward

  • The page title and the spinning SPECIAL logo at the beginning of this toon appear again in The Best Decemberween Ever.
  • The music from the "Special" logo is reused in The Luau.
  • The music at the end of this toon appears again in the Decemberween Email Menu.
  • The pose at the end of the toon appears in a wallpaper available in Downloads.

DVD Version

  • The Special fanfare has been changed into a scat remix done by The Brothers Chaps.
  • When Strong Bad says, "Lights, please," his voice echoes.
  • The "The End" card with the snow is gone.
