Two instances does not a running gag make. I'm not particularly inclined to believe that these instances are even connected. It might be worth a mention in the fun facts of both toons, but since this article doesn't say any more than a fun fact could, I suggest it be '''deleted'''. {{User:Gfdgsgxgzgdrc/sig}} 00:21, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

Agree with deletion. However, I feel I should mention that there is one article that has two instances and has had consensus to keep. If we do the same with this article, it needs a more concise name. RickTommy (edits) 04:33, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

I was gonna say there's potential for a page if the scope were expanded to "Marzipan behaving as if objects are people" with more than three appearances of that, but there's already a page for people treating objects like characters and I'm doubtful that making a page specifically about Marzipan doing that would be pageworthy considering how common it is among the cast. As Gfd said, the two appearances of this don't seem particularly connected, with the parenting instance being something nearly the whole cast of the email does. Delete. I really like DEIDATVM's point that these are really Pseudocharacters. That said, that page seems to be mainly an overview of the concept and lists the primary instances. The rest are listed in the category. Without a page, these should still be documented somewhere, but the entries have since been removed (here and here). These should be some place where this should be documented as it follows a larger pattern. --Stux 16:22, 27 November 2022 (UTC)

[edit] Pausing immediate deletion

Hi all,

I'm writing this because I don't think my initial concerns have been addressed. While this page may not be the best place to document this information, I do think that the information itself is notable and should be documented somewhere. I mean, how often do people treat their food like kids? Sure egg sitting is a thing but raw eggs are rarely consumed directly and unfertilized eggs are, of course, symbolic. Burgers and pudding hardly fit the symbolism.

Now, tracing the Burgers article to Homestar Jr. shows that this behavior is partially documented. In parenting this behavior gets a little worse: now both Homestar and Maripan behave in a similar way. It's the whole premise of the episode. We also have instances of Marzipan treating Homestar as a child as documented in Age Confusion.

I think RickTommy brought a good point that there are some cases that pages are kept with less than 3 references. This would happen if the topic in question is unique enough and/or memorable enough to be of importance. I'm bringing this up here because I happen to think that it unique and memorable enough to mention. And I think part of the issue is that we're treating these as references to something as opposed to weird jokes and behaviors that we document in a slightly different manner. I think that at least the content of the page should be given due diligence, even if it's a proper explanation as to why the behavior detailed therein is not notable. (Again, at least from my perspective I believe that it is.)

So I think I should actually make a concrete proposal that might support what I'm saying:

  • We should perhaps expand the scope to either characters treating objects as kids (and not limit it to Marzipan)
  • I was going to suggest also including characters treating other characters as kids or babies but that's covered in the Age Confusion page (perhaps those specific instances should be grouped together a more careful reading of that page reveals that almost all instances are of characters treating others as children)
  • Actually, we could redirect this page to Age Confusion and add a subsection for characters treating objects as children. I'm 50/50 on that idea.
  • And finally, are these really the only 2 instances where objects are treated as children? With such an expanded scope I wouldn't be surprised if more instances exist.

Please let me know if this sounds reasonable or if I'm off the mark. Thanks, --Stux 14:01, 1 October 2023 (UTC)

I didn't even realize this page existed before today. If you can create a page that makes this into a real running gag, you're welcome to do so, though I'd make it in the Sandbox or in the user space first. But this page, as it exists now, is only about Marzipan and food objects, and... well, I'm not a fan. It only happens twice, and one of them is a case of the whole cast doing it; heck, Marzipan only gets one scene of it, while most of the other characters get at least two. --Jay (Talk) 17:17, 1 October 2023 (UTC)
