[edit] Too general, maybe?

There's something I don't really like about this page. I mean, it fits the word running gag template, it have enough appearances... but I don't think the sentences are unique enough. What I mean is that Strong Bad talk in a certain way, and therefor uses certain words more then others and this seems to be just part of his regular speech. There is nothing special about it. Try to think of something you say every once in a while and see that everybody does it. It's like making a page for every time Strong Bad say "ohh" (which should have more appearances then this). Yep, I really disliked the idea. No offense, but I say this every day. You know, the kind of thing that is a mundane phrase. I think it is used in places where it makes sense. If definitely was deleted, then this has got to go. (Right now this is where I expect some IP genius to come in yelling: A SPOON! IT'S A SPOON! But that page is on its deathbed, anyway.) --Jellote wuz here 13:24, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
This does seem like a really generic phrase to me. (You know, the kind that doesn't make a good article.) All jesting aside, there's just nothing that seems particularly noteworthy about the way SB uses the phrase "You know, the kind...". Heimstern Läufer 13:41, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
It's a pattern that TBC use for jokes, in particular for Strong Bad. Maybe they don't know they use it, and do it subconsciously. I actually suspect that's the case, and that's what makes this article interesting to me. I noticed it the day before yesterday as I was watching modeling, and out of curiosity I did a search to see how often the phrase was used. When the results turned out to be in the double digits, it was an obvious next step to list them in an article. — It's dot com 15:38, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm inclined to agree with idc. The first three sentences of his post are exactly what I thought when I saw the page. Good article. (Y'know, the kind that we should kee—aw, forget it)-128.103.10.119 15:54, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
Idc: I agree with you that it's a pattern. That's exactly what I said - It's just how he talks. Everyone does it. But there is no correlation between pattern and page making. The examples in this page are not particularly funny, and they are not used in an unsual ways. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:13, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Whether the examples are funny or unusual is a matter of opinion, and I disagree on both counts. Furthermore, there is no "just how Strong Bad talks". He's fictional. TBC write his lines. The patterns they use are noteworthy, and there's very much a correlation between those patterns and the articles we make. This article is an analysis of their humor that several readers have stated they find interesting. It's complete to date and easy enough to maintain, and I see no particular reason not to keep it. — It's dot com 05:54, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I never really noticed the pattern until this article compiled the references. I think it's an interesting enough speech pattern to keep track of. It's a neat and humorous way to explain/describe something. --DorianGray 06:03, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I really don't see how this page is so unique. It's just like, you know, the kind of page that's just too general. I say this frequently, and I don't see why it's so unique to the Homestar Runner Universe. But in their defense, I guess Mashing would be a sort of the same thing... I really don't see how this phrase is so general. It's four very specific words. In addition, the words themselves, while ordinary out of context, are just the fulcrum of the joke. It's the things that come after "you know" that are ridiculous and that no one would have been expected to have had in mind already. I mean, "You know, the kind that are only sorta hot so they don't mess around with other guys." That's comedy gold. I've refined the intro a bit to highlight why the construction makes a funny joke. — It's dot com 06:24, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, definite keep after intro clarification. -128.103.10.119 16:04, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I was going to vote to keep it anyway, and that decision has been solidified by the intro clarification. It's, you know, the kind that makes me spurt half an Arnold Palmer out my nose before passing out. Keep! LePorello / T / C 17:21, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
I can see now that how this is leading to something unique. The rewording helped a lot. Although I still have a nagging feeling that there are other variations of this. (Like ones that are only "You know", for example) I can't cite any toons off the top of my head, so I guess this article can stay... Until I find something. I'm still in my opinion that noting this phrase, is like noting when a surfer say "dude". That's how he talks. He doesn't really think about it (for all we know). Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:32, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Meh, keep. I guess I see the point now. Ignore my prior statement. --Jellote wuz here 20:39, 6 September 2009 (UTC)
Just a belated note that I think I can get behind this article now. The only thing I don't like is that this list retains all examples, including the ones where the phrase after "You know, the kind" is mundane. But that's a minor issue I can easily look past. [edit] Image?

Anyone have any idea what image could go here? free 22:23, 13 September 2009 (UTC)

You know, the kind of page with a caption on the image.
Perhaps this is a bad idearrrrr, but what about using a picture of Strong Bad typing the phrase? Even if that is the worst idea ever, how about this style thing? {When an image comes, please replace the image and remove this notice}--Jellote wuz here 22:57, 13 September 2009 (UTC)
I'm neutral on the idea of using an image of SB typing the phrase. I'm strongly opposed to using the "no photo" image. Some articles may simply just not be a good fit for an image. — It's dot com 03:12, 14 September 2009 (UTC)
How about Modestly Hot Homsar? You know, that kind that is only sorta hot, and the only thing in that list that we actually see. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:31, 17 September 2009 (UTC)
