[edit] A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Wiki
Please use the existing forum thread to discuss this email.
- Response: A few things...
- 1. I don't have a forum account, and I don't want one. I already have a million accounts on a million different sites and I'm fed up of them all.
- 2. It's rude to delete things people have added from the Talk: namespace - that's what the Talk: namespace if for!
- 3. Talk: fits in with the whole Wiki nature thing far better than forums do. I have nothing against the existence of the forum, but as a Wiki fan I'd much rather discuss things here.
- In response to your response:
- 1. Just use the same user name and password for all your many accounts and set them all to log in automaticly. Plus, can you immagine all the spam we would get if it was *not* required that people to log in on the forum? Besides, to have a user name on the wiki you now have to sign up anyway.
- 2. It's not rude. We are just trying to keep the wiki as professional looking as possable. You should have known that something would happen to your post by the request at the top of this page.
- 3. I agree that wikitalk fits in with the wiki thing better then a forum does, but, with this wiki at least, we have found that the forum works better for discussing the cartoons. Please remember that we have tried this both ways. ;-)
- (Please note that I don't represent the opinions of the moderators of this wiki in anyway, but I've been here a while and these are my observations.)
- --James
- Response [to James's #1] : that's a terrible, terrible idea! I used to do that many years ago. Then someone hacked one of the forums I was a member of, and used my username and password from that forum to log in to a different forum on which I had adminstrative access.
- Response [to James's #2: I'm all for keeping the main wiki as clean and professional as possible, but the Talk: section is different - it's where standards are lower and people who just want to drop in a note without taking the time to clean it up to wiki standards can do so.

- Response to all y'alls-I agree with IP Dude.I never joined the forum, but because of a different reason(My computer blocks 'em out). Are you gonna rob ME of the chance to discuss H*R toons? And yes,it is a bad idea,my own little sister has done that to me before.Ookelaylay

[edit] "Here Comes" song
Does anyone else think that the Here Comes the Strong Baaad theme song was not very reminiscent of the Thnikkaman song? I didn't notice that when I heard it first, and now that I'm thinking of them both, I don't hear the resemblance. What does everyone else think?
racerx_is_alive
- I agree. I didn't even think of the Thnikkaman song when I heard it. I think the tune is from some TV show or movie whose title escapes me at the moment. -- Tom 12:37, 15 Sep 2004 (MST
- It's a lot more like the Bonanza theme song (though not exactly the same). Here's a link to the song.
- I suppose that the wording is similar, but I don't think that this similarity was something they intended. And the Bonanza one is close, but I think there is a closer one. It sounds really familiar, but I haven't watched too many westerns lately though. --racerx_is_alive 15:08, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)
No one can resist a loaded Thnikkaman. Maybe, if Strong Bad uses this song, his P.O.P. may become stronger.
- Not Strong Bad
My thought on this: Is it worth noting that the singers for the "Here Comes The Strong Bad" are the same ones that sing "Buy All Our Playsets And Toys" in Cheat Commandos? - KieferSkunk 18:21, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- I would guess the "singers" for both are a multi-tracked Matt Chapman. Seems like pretty much everything 'round here is. —AbdiViklas 18:46, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- I guess I should rephrase that a bit: Is it worth noting that the chorus line for "Here Comes" sounds almost exactly the same as "Buy All Our Playsets"? I realize TBC rarely use people other than themselves and Missy to do the voices in their toons. I just thought the similarity between the two tracks was interesting. - KieferSkunk 19:54, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- Ah. Still, I think it's something of a coincidence, since the sound of "Here Comes" seems to be the result of emulating a manly, vigorous, buffalo-style chorus of "cowboy" voices, and the Cheat Commandoes is dramatizing the manly, steely-eyed physicality of GIs. I grew up without the benefits of pop culture, so I'm not real familiar with how the GI Joe intro sounds, but I'm guessing it's simply referencing that. —AbdiViklas 20:07, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
- GI Joe sounded a bit more rock-star-ish (for 80's rock, anyway) than "military manly". But no biggie - this discussion is exactly why I didn't add an Inside Reference to the article. :) - KieferSkunk 20:10, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Hardball
- I was also reminded of the now-infamous Hardball interview with Georgia senator Zell Miller in which Miller ended up challenging Chris Matthews to a duel. Wouldn't surprise me, given that The Brothers Chaps are from Georgia... --codeman38 20:37, 15 Sep 2004 (MST)
[edit] Fun facts
deleted:
- This is one of the few (if not the only) Strong Bad Emails in which his song does not include the word 'email'.
as it was redundant.
[edit] Closed STUFF
[edit] Not only Halloween? One of the Strong Bads may actually be The Goblin, such as in Pumpkin Carve-nival. Posted on: 17:22, 2 August 2006 (UTC) VERDICT: This item was overwhelmingly declined, 17–1. The votes and arguments have been moved to HRWiki:STUFF/Archive/pizzaz. |
[edit] So many a reference (DECLINED)
Given the Brothers Chaps' obsession with old video games, RyGuy might be a reference to the classic NES game Rygar, or Ryu from the Street Fighter series. It could also reference Fryguy, given their equal obsession with 80s youth-targeted advertising.
- I'm not gonna write a "Declined" joke this week... Ryu was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this email, however since there's so many things it could be a reference to (just search the web for "RyGuy") it's not certain. Either pick one and prove it, or this is textbook TTATOT --phlip 15:41, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
- Declined "RyGuy" is a nickname for Ryan, not a reference to anything. I happen to have a friend named Ryan, who a lot of people call "RyGuy". Do I go around saying "Is that a reference to...?!" No, I don't. --acekirby13 20:54, 5 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Third Interview (DECLINED)
This is the third time Strong Bad has interviewed somebody. He "interviewed" Homsar (actually himself speaking for Homsar) in the email "interview" and he interviewed Homestar in the toon The Interview.
- Accept. Nice one. hamrodrunner
- Decline. This should never have been STUFF-ed. It should have been deleted outright. -- tomstiff 10:48, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

- Move/revise How about moving it to the Fast Forward of the "interview" e-mail and saying something like "Strong Bad also conducts interviews in The Interview and pizzaz." Tom H 17:25, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)
- How about not? Noting how many times Strong Bad conducts interviews isn't fun - anybody watching those e-mails can tell for themselves whether or not he's conducting interviews. And the fact that the two toons being referenced actually have the word "interview" in the title makes this one even more obvious and unnecessary. Declined --TheEggman 23:08, 11 Apr 2005 (MDT)

- (accept?) i thought it was a good fact...
- My card is totally D3CL1N3'D!!! I don't think this is worth mentioning. None of his "interviews" seem to get any information out of anyone anyway. --NFITC1

COMMENT'd!Does that make strong Bad a f'real journalist?
[edit] I think Homestar may be hacked......
I jus' checked up homestar today and well... look at quote of the week... sure, the bros chaps couldve done that but then i checked Toons. I got worried here. You cant get into big toons, shorts, holidays, puppet stuff, or the cheats toons... then if you click on the cover of the magazine, it will open to show you DENNIS. Not the guy but the heading is DENNIS. Then I headed on in to SBemails... NO LIST OF EMAILS!!!!!! Then I headed on over to the "FAQ" page and its in a little bros chapesque joke, Childrens Book Of FAQ or something like it... click on it to open it up and..... no FAQ, just a buncha crud! I dunno what the heck is goin' on here but I sure hope it gets better....
- It's possible. But I think it more likely that there is a bandwidth problem, since I can't get in at all. --Jay (Gobble) 22:01, 12 Jul 2005 (UTC)

- Maybe it's loading from your cache? I intentionally keep my cache small (so updates actually appear; my computer and modem are fast enough to compensate.) This isn't the first time this week that H*R.com has refused to load for me... --Jay (Gobble) 22:14, 12 Jul 2005 (UTC)
- It's his flash. I have got this problem before. Total SpaceShip Guy3 Happy Birthday!

[edit] Buffalo-style Confusion
I think the reference to "Buffalo-style" should be rethought. It seems to me like they're just referencing the perplexing "Buffalo-style" adjective often applied to chicken wings. Tim Russert's hometown seems a little too esoteric, even for TBC.
——I also agree, at least partially. When i first saw this, My immediate reaction was that "Buffalo Style Ranch" was a refereance to the Dressing, although I do not rule out the esoteric references, as well. Just something to be considered.
[edit] whats is a pizzaz
well?
Nikolce Kocovski 11:28, 11 October 2005 (UTC).
- Pizazz is a noun. When applied to a person, it's slang for "enthusiasm." For inanimate objects, it can mean "showy" or "flashy." For example:
- "Strong Bad showed a lot of pizazz during his cabaret dance routine."
- — THE SMOKING MONKEY 11:47, 11 October 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Am I the only person who has noticed this?!
Call me crazy, but the whole interview seems to be exactly like an interview that David Byrne did with himself while he was with Talking Heads. The interview is available on the best of Talking Heads DVD, and is halarious. In it, The Byrne being interviewed wears different costumes, prompting the Byrne conducting the interview to ask about it. It is probably the real inside joke here, rather than the Sinefeld reference, which may have actually been a homage to the Byrne interview also!
[edit] Admiral Strong Bad
Recently, an anonny edited the transcript of this email, changing all instances of "CAPTAIN STRONG BAD" to "ADMIRAL STRONG BAD". I reverted it, as to my knowledge, we have not had a consensus about this. So which is he? I think the anonny was making a good edit, as we have never heard him called Captain Strong Bad, so Admiral is probably a better description. He is wearing a sailor's cap, after all. But using that logic, we could say that no one has ever referred to him as "Admiral" either, and that it's better to just call him Strong Bad. What do you think? — Has Matt? (talk) 02:09, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- Strong Bad specifically claims that Cpt. Strong Bad is dressed up as "a ship's captain". I think this is pretty clear-cut. --phlip TC 02:10, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
- As do I. TheYellowDart—(t/c)
[edit] Interview Style
I think the over the shoulder shots is a clear reference to how live action tv shows often utilize the same actor for different roles. The effect of having the same person onscreen twice was expensive, so they used stand-ins and shots of the back of one person's head looking at the other to minimize the cost of the effect. I know that was done on probably every popular sitcom at least once... and was most notable on The Patty Duke Show.
- This is also explained on Dual_role. Maybe we can expand this article and the twin_characters page to include these references?
[edit] Running Gag "Introduced"
The fact where Strong Bad, near the end of the email, says pizzas instead of "pizazz"[sic] should basically have it's own running gag. Do you find my statement about the runnin gag consent/contrary? -Ümläut76 (The C Zone · Talk here!)
- Hmm. Bad Puns, perhaps? — It's dot com 03:40, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Plugs
I noticed while watching this email that on the outlets viewed while The Cheat is unplugging the plug, the left hole is flipped. Most outlets in the States either have no perpendicular part on the left hole, or a perpendicular part to the left of the parallel part. is this worth mentioning? and i'm a little fuzzy on the reasons why said perpendicular part exists; i think it's to accommodate for European plugs, but i think even those vary depending on what part of Europe you're in. In short, is the reversed outlet hole worth a mention? The Knights Who Say Ni 21:46, 23 December 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Buffalo Bill
In the early 80's, there was a sitcom about a daytime news talk show called Buffalo Bill. Here's a link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084992/
I think it is entirely possible that "Buffalo-style" may be a reference to this TV show.
- "Buffalo style" usually refers to buffalo wings. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 04:28, 4 April 2010 (UTC)
- Usually, yes, but here, it definitely refers to the talk show. As noted above, it could be a reference to Meet The Press, but considering the Buffalo Bill synopsis (that, and being the show was produced in the 80's - and we all know how much TBC love the 80's), I think it is entirely possible it could be a reference to this show. In fact, this show was exactly what came to mind the first time I saw this video, and was somewhat surprised that no one had mentioned this before.
