{Then the cover of the second book zooms in "The Homestar Runner In: Where My Hat Is At?" "A Book Story"}

{The book opens to the first page of the original book, with a crudely drawn Homestar in a star}

CAPTION: Everyone loves the Homestar Runner. He is a terrific athlete.

{crossfades to a modern Homestar (sans hat) in a green star on a blue background.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: If there's two things I know about the Homestar Runner, it's that everybody loves the him and he's a terrific athlete.

{page turn to reveal Marzipan sitting on her couch, and Homestar coming in screen left}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: All right, Marzipan! I'm off to the big game!

MARZIPAN: Hey, where's your hat, Homestar?

{close-up of Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I'm sorry, I couldn't understand what you just said.

{close-up of Marzipan}

MARZIPAN: {annoyed} I said, "Where's your hat?"

{reverse to Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Yeah, you're not even speaking English at this point.

{reverse to Marzipan}

MARZIPAN: {sighs, resigned} I mean, where your hat is at, Homestar?

{reverse to Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Hey, good question! Without my hat, I won't be allowed to play in the big game.

{cut to a shot of Marzipan and Homestar}

MARZIPAN: {angrily} Well good! Then you can start mowing the lawn and—

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Let's look under the couch!

{Homestar lifts the end of the couch, tossing Marzipan}

MARZIPAN: {screams}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: It isn't under the couch.

{page turn to reveal Homestar standing next to the TeeBee in his living room, wearing a monocle.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {faux British accent} Or, on top of the teleset, gov'nor!

{push wipe from the bottom: close up of Homestar on a spinning blue background. The words appear as he says them.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Where my hat is at?

{cut to Homestar emerging from the pool wearing a snorkeling mask, displacing a beach ball.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Whew! It's not in the pool. {closer shot} But I did find this Strong Sad brand concrete block!

{Strong Sad appears. Everything below his head seems to be encased in cement and his eyes are bloodshot.}

STRONG SAD: Thanks for saving me, mister! Can I obsess over you now?

{zoom out to reveal Strong Bad and The Cheat standing on the side of the pool, wearing fedoras.}

STRONG BAD: Of all the dumb luck in the woild!

{page turn to reveal Homestar opening the lid to The King Of Town's grill, revealing a piece of meat.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: It isn't cooking on the grill? {reverse} Man, I really thought it'd make complete sense if my non-edible hat would be cooking on a food grill!

{push wipe left: Homestar on the blue background}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Where my hat is at?

{cut to Homestar at a mailbox, wearing a driving cap.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Bangers and mash! It isn't in the post box either!

{page turn to Homestar underneath a red car in the garage}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Or under this auto that I always all the time drive around. {pause} And call an auto.

{push wipe left: Homestar on the blue background}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Where my hat is at?

{cut to Homestar standing with Pom Pom on a pitching mound. Pom Pom has a cap on and is holding an 8-ball.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Go on, Pom Pom, just gimme your hat. {close up Homestar and Pom Pom. Homestar leans on Pom Pom} Everybody knows I've got bigger game than you.

{cut back to the wider shot}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Oh! How about a trade? You let me borrow your hat, I let you borrow my jock. {pulls out a dirty athletic supporter}

POM POM: {angry bubbles}

{Pom Pom throws the 8-ball at Homestar, who flees screen left.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Oh, never mind!

{page turn to close up of Coach Z in the locker room}

COACH Z: You lost a prat of your uniform!?

{wider shot of Coach Z and Homestar, who is looking embarrassed}

COACH Z: Well, it's like I always say. A man's uniform {cross fade to The Chalkboard, which has a hat drawn on it and is embellished as Coach Z speaks} is like a temple, wherein he keeps his {slowly, confused} uniform when he's not using it. {"torchdown?" appears on the chalkboard}

{Chalkboard is pushed up to a two shot of Coach Z and Homestar. Homestar looks annoyed.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Um, are you suggesting that my hat is inside my hat?

COACH Z: No, I'm suggesting that—

{close up of Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Well good, 'cause I already looked and it's not there.

{page turn to Bubs' Concession Stand. Homestar is standing outside, and the sign reads "Candy"}

BUBS: Shrug. I haven't seen it! {close-up of Bubs} Nobody's tried to sell me any stolen hats this half hour!

{cut back to the wider shot.}

BUBS: {lifts up Marzipan's pony tail} I do have this stolen wig, though.

{page turn to The Umpire and Homestar, standing at home plate}

THE UMPIRE: If you can't find your hat, you're not allowed to play in the big game!

{close up of Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {annoyed} Um, yeah, we sorta established that in the first scene. {happier} But thanks anyway.

{page turn to Homestar kicking a soup can}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {distraught} Looks like I won't be able to play, then.

{cut to a shot of Homestar walking down a road, with his shadow reaching towards the horizon and sky gradually turning to orange.}

{cut to Homestar in his kitchen next to the refrigerator.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {sadly} I could really go for a few Cold Ones right about now.

{reverse shot from inside the fridge, with hat in the foreground}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Hmm, it feels like something is strange here... but I can't seem to put my finger on—

{cut to Homestar with the swirling blue background}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {excitedly} There my hat is at!

{cut to a slow zoom to the hat in the fridge}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Right between the milk and the Colden Ones.

{cut to wider shot of Homestar at the fridge. Homestar takes out the hat, closes the door and puts the hat on his head.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I must've left it in there when I put my hat in the fridge. {Homestar comes close to the camera} If I hurry, I can still make it the big game! {Homestar runs off screen left}

{cut to a silhouette on a yellow background of Homestar running while drinking a Colden One}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Glug glug glug glug glug glug glug.

{cut to Homestar coming in screen right in front of The Umpire. Homestar leaps onto home plate.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Safe!

THE UMPIRE: Uh, what are you doing?

{close up of Homestar}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I found my hat just in time to score the winning run.

{close up of The Umpire}

THE UMPIRE: {annoyed} Uh, no, actually it's the bottom of the second, your team's down by 94 points, and you just illegally ran onto the field!

{wider shot}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Get this, it was between the milk and the Cold Ones!

THE UMPIRE: Yeah, yeah, you need to head back to the dugout before I toss you out of here, buster!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Man, Mr. Umpire, you sure have a funny way of pronouncing—

{push wipe down; Homestar in a green star on a blue field. Homestar pulls out The Local Newspapes.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Homestar Runner's team wins!

THE UMPIRE: {off-screen} Yeah, you're suspended from the league. {Homestar looks disappointed}

{black screen with white text: "here the end is at!"}

[edit] Easter Eggs

  • If the spacebar is pressed during the cartoon, the view will flip between the cartoon and the corresponding page from the book.

[edit] Fun Facts

[edit] Explanations

  • Bangers and mash is a traditional British dish of sausages and mashed potatoes.
  • Strong Sad's predicament is reminiscent of an execution method supposedly used by the American Mafia known as "cement shoes", where the victim's feet are either encased in a concrete block or bound to such a block before being thrown into a body of water such as a river or the ocean. The added weight of the concrete ensures the victim won't be able to escape and will drown unless rescued immediately.

[edit] Trivia

  • Homestar's mouth is in the same shape as in the book when he says "Where my hat is at?"
  • This is the second tenth anniversary remake of a book, the first being Strongest Man in the World. In both cases, the conclusion is changed from the original book, but Homestar still expects the original conclusion to take place.
  • Almost all of the scenes of the cartoon are taken directly from the original book. A few images are different, however. For example, the refrigerator contents are in a different order in the cartoon. Also, the meat on the grill is a ribeye in the book and a T-bone in the cartoon.

[edit] Remarks

  • The text on the picture hanging above Marzipan's couch has been changed from "Thank You" to "You're Welcome".
  • Coach Z's emblem has been changed to match the original book. The "Z" has an upward, curved point on the top left-hand corner.
  • Homestar breaks the fourth wall by calling the first scene "the first scene."
  • There is a large clickable area just outside the frame to the top-left corner of the screen. Clicking it doesn't seem to do anything.
  • Homestar somehow had a colden one on his way to the game, but never actually gets one out of the refrigerator. He also does not seem to have it at the game.
  • It seems that the sun is setting as Homestar walks down the road, but the sky is light again once he leaves his house.
  • When Homestar is kicking the can of soup, the word "soup" is always right side up, even when the can is upside-down.
  • Homestar's "auto" has no doors.

[edit] Goofs

disconnected, Homestar edition?
  • As Homestar takes his hat out of the fridge, his head is not entirely attached to his body for a couple of frames.

[edit] Inside References

  • The loading screen features cheese.
  • Strong Bad pronounces "world" as "woild".
  • Just like in the original, Bubs' Concession Stand says "Candy" (although the style of the sign is modern).
  • Frozen Bake, a food first seen in Twenty THANXty Six, can be seen in Homestar's fridge.
  • Homestar has a car in this toon.
    • His claim that he uses the car all the time despite the fact it has never been seen outside of the book is a reference to keep cool, where Strong Bad made the claim that he uses a certain pool all the time despite the fact that it hadn't been seen since the Theme Song Video.
  • Homestar is seen kicking a can of water soup, and the Old Timey theme music plays, making it a specific reference to Kick the Can.
  • Homestar is seen drinking Colden Ones.
  • "Where my hat is at?" is an example of a non-inverted question.
  • Homestar's line after diving in the pool references his dive in the blue family recreation water in mini-golf.
  • At the end of the toon, Homestar holds up "The Local Newspapes".
  • Homestar looked under the grill assuming his hat was being cooked.
  • Strong Bad and The Cheat try to drown Strong Sad.
