Intro

Hi there, I'm GuardDuck. For those of you who don't know, Guard Duck is one of the main characters in the comic Pearls Before Swine, which is probably the comic ever. If you've never read it, you definitely should.

My interests in Homestarrunner and the Wiki

I first ran into Homestarrunner.com in what I believe was the fall of '04, which was when Homestar-mania was sweeping the 5th grade class at Broadview-Thompson elementary school. Most of the other kids abandoned it after a few weeks, but something about it stuck with me. The first toon I ever saw was Shopping for Danger, the newest toon at that time. I was, as you can imagine, rather confused by it all, having no idea why all these miniature cheeses were hopping all over a grocery store.

My interests in the Wiki came when a friend of mine, (I believe you all know him as Bubsty), showed me the page on date nite, one of my favorite cartoons on the site. What immediately attracted me to the wiki was its gigantic database. A few clicks of the "random page" button proved to me that it had truly documented everything you possibly could about Homestarrunner. Next to Wikipedia, I had never seen anything like it.

Intrests

Well, where to begin... while TV isn't my thing, there are a few shows I absolutely love... Monk, Doc Martin, Family Guy, American Dad, and South Park are my favorites.

I'll just get this out of the way: I hate playing almost all sports. I suspect this could be because my right eye is (almost) blind, meaning I have zero depth perception, but I think it's mostly just that the idea of teams and scores and such just doesn't interest me. As such, I'm not a huge baseball, basketball, or football fan. Sorry. I do enjoy recreational sports, that is, such as jogging, biking, hiking, swimming, skiing... you get the idea. Some of the more obscure ones are my favorites, which is probably why I own a unicycle, stilts, and a pogo-stick. I'm on the cross-country team at my high school, and I'm proud to say that we made districts last year, which is more than you can say for any of our other teams. (Our big win was really due to the other 49 runners than me, but I tend to ignore that).

I think it's fairly obvious I spend a lot of time on the computer. You can often find me cruising Youtube, Wikipedia, Kongregate, Digg, and of course Facebook, which has sort of become a deity for me. I read many blogs, (My favorites are The Comics Curmudgeon and Stuff White People Like), and even keep one of my own, although to say it's updated frequently would be a total exaggeration.

I see I've already overwhelmed you with three paragraphs and 13 links, so I'll just end it here.

About Myself

One more final, then I'm done for the semester.

If I didn't bore you to death with that last avalanche of information, I'll let you know a little bit about myself, although I try not to give too much personal info out on the web, so I'll keep it short.

I live in Seattle, Washington, which is pretty much my favorite city on Earth. It's one of the most diverse cities in the country, and that's definitely influenced me. I like to consider myself a pretty hipster, urban kind of guy, although reality is I'm pretty much a nerd. High School has duffed me up a little bit, though, and has definitely changed my perspective on life.

Moving away from all that philosophical stuff, I should probably let you know I'm just about the most nit-picky grammar and spelling geek there is. My biggest pet peeve is probably using "u" instead of "you" (It's just two extra letters! TWO!), although mis-use of "there" and "your" definitely ticks me off as well. (Which is one thing I have in common with Strong Bad).

I'm a huge politics buff, and am a proud socialist-bordering-communist. I heartily supported Barack Obama in the U.S's last presidential election, and I will do so in the next as well. (And by then, I'll actually be able to vote!). That doesn't mean I'll look down on you if you're a conservative, although I might attempt to pull you a little to the left. I'm a devout Pastafarian, although I haven't been doing very well as a missionary. (Probably converted 3 people since 2005, not that great of a record).

My Bottom 10

10. Long ski-lift lines at ski resorts. If it takes more than 15 minutes, it's not worth it.

9. IKEA furniture. It's pretty, but it will always break.

8. People who claim Finland is part of Scandinavia.

7. People who use Yahoo! Answers to ask if they're pregnant or not. (How on Earth would we know?)

6. Buildings that are tall and square, made out of concrete, and have long narrow windows. (Worst architecture ever).

5. Cauliflower. It's as disgusting as broccoli, but instead of being a cool green color it's just white.

4. The Jonas Brothers, Panic at the Disco, All Time Low... you know, all of those bands.

3. Userbox stacks that are longer than the userpage itself.

2. People who need to say "First!" when they're the first to comment on a blog post.

1. People who need to write "xxxxxxxxxxxxx" after any wall post they make on Facebook.

Awesome People

  • It's Dot Com — Probably done more for this wiki than the rest of us put together.
  • DeFender1031 — Works hard on the wiki, and he's also a Babylon 5 fan, like me!
  • Stux — Nice guy, has a cool userpage, very friendly, and helped with all the haiku findings for the Haiku page.
  • OptimisticFool — Funny and helpful. (And has another cool userpage).
