In 1985, Universal Pictures released Back to the Future. This science-fiction comedy stars Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly, a young man whose friend Dr. Emmett Brown constructs a time machine that takes Marty to his parents' adolescent years. The highest grossing movie of the year, Back to the Future spawned two sequels and a cartoon. The Homestar Runner characters seem to be entertained by Back to the Future since they incorporate elements of the time-travel movie into their cartoons.
References
- Homestarloween Party — Bubs equips The Goblin's Gremlin with the time machine's main component, the Flux Capacitor.
- Email 50 emails — Strong Bad says, "Don't nobody go nowheres," when he has to answer a phone call which interrupts his 50 emails. This was spoken by Marvin Berry before his band takes a break from performing at the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance.
- Thy Dungeonman II — The Enchantment Under the Parapets Dance may be a reference to the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance that Marty and his parents attend.
- Email senior prom — The King of Town's Servants dress as Marvin Berry and the Starlighters when they perform at the Entrapment All Up On The Moon Dance.
- Jibblies 2 — The Poopsmith dresses as Doc Brown, which Homestar Runner acknowledges in an Easter Egg by modifying one of Doc's quotes, "Where we're going, we don't need roads".
- Limozeen Live! - 27 Mar 2008 — Strong Bad's introduction to Everybody to the Limit is exactly the same as Marty's introduction to his performance of Johnny B. Goode.
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 15 — Another reference to the dance is made, as the dance the girls attend is Priggity Pizzom: Thugchantment at the Cloughb.
- The Secrets That I Keep — In the film reel showing Strong Bad and Strong Sad as kids, Lil' Strong Bad was wearing the vest Marty McFly had on in the first movie.
- Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Homestar Runner dresses up as Crispin Glover as Rubin Farr. Crispin Glover played George McFly,Marty's Dad in the first movie.
