References to severed body parts, either belonging to the characters or to unknown owners, have appeared several times throughout the Homestar Runner universe. Appearances of Strong Sad's severed head have been especially common, enough so to be considered a running gag in and of itself.

- Email impression — The Cheat dresses up as Strong Sad's left leg.

- Where My Hat Is At? — Bubs shows Homestar Marzipan's ponytail, with bits of hair sticking out where it would be connected to her head.
- Doomy Tales of the Macabre — Bubs' head is severed by his own concession stand, then it rolls next to Onion Bubs.
- The House That Gave Sucky Tricks — Strong Sad's leg, Homestar's leg, and Strong Mad's arm are seen hanging from the ceiling in the "gross out room", and then seen sewn to Marzipan.
- Strong Sad's Severed Soolnds — Strong Bad draws Strong Sad's severed soolnd for "alliteration day".
- Email parenting (Easter egg) — Homestar's severed leg drops from above the counter of the concession stand and falls onto Bubs' head.
- 2022 Costume Pack Now Available — The Cheat's contribution to the ghost story adds several severed body parts to the scene, all a sickeningly blueish grey in color, as well as a pair of enucleated eyeballs.
