For the past few days, I haven't been able to see any images/pictures on HRWiki. I can't even the HRWiki logo-thing with Homestar in the left corner. It's really annoying & I don't know if it's something wrong with my browser or if it's just the site. Help?

How do I upload a song?

I have a wav & mp3 of the Stinko Man K 20X6 theme and I want to poast it, so..... how do I?

Do I need to have on the net somwhere already or can I just upload it from my CPU?

You can't. DISCLAIMER: Only registered users who are logged on can upload files. However, I have a pretty good feeling that those particular files would just be deleted as
    1. Files of type ".wav" are HUGE. I've been able to reduce a 3.15 MB wav to 444KB by converting it to a 256 kbps mp3. Wavs have to be around four times that bit rate before they are really even listenable. Bear in mind that I have some pretty low standards as to what constitutes "listenable." Even mp3s are still kind of bulky when compared with OGGs.
    2. You'd be stepping on TBC's toes with regards to copyright and whatnot because, somebody correct me if I'm mistaken, but that's already available to download at http://www.videlectrix.com.

Sorry to crush your hopes and dreams — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 07:45, 24 January 2006 (UTC)

Well I am a registered user.

The theme I have is the one that they put lyrics to in Japanese Cartoon; "Challang and fighting and fighting and challange toniiiight...."

But I have one question; What the crap is an ".ogg" file and how do you make one?

I'm sorry, but I've never been down wit' ogg. So please fill me in. OX (Talk | contribs) 16:35, 25 January 2006 (left unsigned)

OGG is like MP3, only that it's open source. That is, anybody can make a program that makes OGG's. There are several programs that encode OGG, some easier to use than others, but I can't think of any right now. Again if you're considering uploading the entire song please be aware of the points made above. --Stux 16:14, 27 January 2006 (UTC)

NOTICE! I just found a way to make Windows Media Player play .ogg files. http://www.illiminable.com/ogg/ You'll still need to associate .ogg files with WMP but it's great. The program that I normally use to open internet media is now .ogg-capable! Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:30, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Icon

Is there a way to remove an icon next to a link outside HRWiki? NO!!! PLEASE... DON'T SHOOT!!! Tampo (T/C) AND SOMEONE GET THiS FREAKiN CURSOR AWAY FROM ME!!!!!

Are you refering to the little images that show up on Firefox for links to homestarrunner.com, yahoo.com, videlectrix.com, and thorax.corp? Or are you refering to the little arrows that show up to the right of links? Because if you want to get rid of the arrow for a link like this, use this code:
<span class="plainlinks">[www.something.com link here]</span>
To make it look like this. Hope that helps. Thunderbird 00:31, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
I want to get rid of all the icons including the H*R and the Videlectrix ones. NO!!! PLEASE... DON'T SHOOT!!! Tampo (T/C) AND SOMEONE GET THiS FREAKiN CURSOR AWAY FROM ME!!!!! 14:04, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
There's probably a way to do it in your personal Monobook.css file. I'll have a look on Meta-Wiki and see if there's a way to get rid of all icons next to links. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 14:14, 28 January 2006 (UTC)
EDIT: I'm not sure if this will get rid of the H*R links, but it'll get rid of the external link icon at least.
/* Get rid of the stupid arrow after external links (only for http for the time being) */
  1. bodyContent a[href ^="http://"] {
   background:inherit !important;
   padding-right:inherit !important;
   padding-left:inherit !important;
}Just paste that code into your monobook.css, which I've linked above. For specific sites, just enter the www part of the URL after a[href ^="http://.

Hi guys, given the interesting request, I'd like to comment on something that's been on my mind for quite a while: although i find it neat to have link pictures next to H*R links etc., I find them more of a hassle than a benefit for various reasons:

  1. IE users do not see the links, as such, IE and firefox users will see different versions of the pages and sometimes, these minute differences can and have caused display problems in tables and such that only firefox users can notice.
  2. There are many times when the link picture itself does not render itself correctly (my guess is because it is used as part of the "background" property:
like I mentioned before it does not render well in tables, (they used to not have a clear background but that's been since fixed -- and example for firefox users can be found here),
and if you want, for some weird reason, to have really small links, (like this Stux), it won't render as you want it to,
and if, for some reason you wanted to plainlink the link it doesn't work: (at least not for me)Stux or Stux it looks messed up. (This is just an example that I came up with, it isn't anything I intend to use for my sig :-p ;) )
view from firefox

So, I am not suggesting that we get rid of this, I kinda liked the feature, but I'd really like it if:

  1. *everybody* could see the feature, and more than that,
  2. anyone could have an easy way of turning the feature off for a specific link without having to edit their monobook (if they really don't like it then they're welcomed to).
  3. Moreover, if the picture was actually treated as a "character" instead of a background element, perhaps it might work better in tables and stuff.

Any thoughts, ideas, comments, techincal know-hows, opinions? --Stux 16:08, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

For the benefit of IE users everywhere, I have included a screenshot of the comment above so you may see what i'm talking about. --Stux 16:16, 28 January 2006 (UTC)

Imageshack

How do I link to images on Imageshack? I'm having troubles. When I wanna link to an image on Imageshack, it comes out as a blue text link, not the picture. HOW IN THE HECK DO I DO THIS?? Whew. Homfrog 12:48, 31 January 2006 (UTC)

Easter egg image

Can you put an image on a page and when someone clicks on it it will go somewhere (like an easter egg)? 404'd!! FILE NOT FOUND! 23:48, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

If your question is MAY you add an easter egg to your user page then I suggest you read HRWiki:User space. If you would like to know how to do it after you've read the aforementioned page, I suggest you read Help:Link. The Help button on the left is a great resource on how to do stuff. --Stux 00:33, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
This is a few days old, I know, but I just inadvertently found your answer. RJMT has one in her sig and a discussion about how to do it is on her talk page.

Sig image bug

I noticed a problem displaying a sig under certain conditions (namely 1280x768 but only b/c of the way the text wrapped at that resolution) and placed a note and screenshot here. If anybody know what's going on that'll be great! --Stux 14:42, 3 February 2006 (UTC)

It's not a bug. He's using non-breaking (&nbsp;) spaces. -- Tom 19:13, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
Oh, I see what you mean, wouldn't then this be a Firefox rendering error? I guess I'm not quite clear what the &nbsp; rendering rules are. If it's one chunk of text, then it should be wrapper properly, shouldn't it? --Stux 22:27, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
If rendered properly, non-breaking spaces should not break a line. From the looks of it, Firefox is correctly rendering them. -- Tom 22:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I guess my question is: shouldn't the non-breaking space be treated as a regular letter, and so the whole chunk as a regular word? So normal word-wrapping rules should apply and as a result then entire chunk be wrapped to the next line? I did a thorough check and IE seems to do that (wrap the text properly) but not Firefox (firefox only wraps the word "Nerd42" and ignores the other chars when considering the wrap). --Stux 16:04, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
The raw HTML code output for his sig there is the following:
( --<small><span style="white-space: nowrap;" class="plainlinks"><span style="border-left: 1px solid rgb(80, 80, 80); border-right: 1px solid rgb(80, 80, 80); background: rgb(224, 224, 224) none repeat scroll 0%; color: rgb(80, 80, 80); -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial; font-weight: bold; font-variant: small-caps; font-size: 90%; line-height: 80%;" class="nounderlinelink"><a href="/index.php/User:Nerd42" title="User:Nerd42"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);">NERD42 </span></a><span style="background: rgb(255, 160, 160) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"> <a href="mailto:nerd42@gmail.com" class="external text" title="mailto:nerd42@gmail.com" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);">email</span></a> </span><span style="background: rgb(255, 255, 160) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"> <a href="/index.php/User_talk:Nerd42" title="User talk:Nerd42"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);">talk</span></a> </span><span style="background: rgb(160, 255, 160) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"> <a href="http://bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U203906" class="external text" title="http://bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/brunel/U203906" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);"> h²g²</span></a> </span><span style="background: rgb(160, 160, 255) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"> <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nerd42" class="external text" title="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Nerd42" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);">pedia</span></a> </span><span style="background: rgb(255, 160, 255) none repeat scroll 0%; -moz-background-clip: -moz-initial; -moz-background-origin: -moz-initial; -moz-background-inline-policy: -moz-initial;"> <a href="http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/User:Nerd42" class="external text" title="http://uncyclopedia.org/wiki/User:Nerd42" rel="nofollow"><span style="color: rgb(80, 80, 80);">uncyc</span></a> </span></span></span></small> 18:37, 9 January 2006 (UTC)
Taking a closer look, I'm guessing it's the "style="white-space: nowrap" that's doing it then. -- Tom 01:04, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
I tried your suggestion as you can see here but instead it broke the sig, despite the &nbsp; being a non-breaking space (it did this in both IE and netscape). Both browsers seem to be breaking this "non-breaking" space. It seems to me that the no-wrap then is being interpreted correctly by Firefox but not explorer. But my issue is now then why have a "non-breaking" space that will be broken? Ok I think i've been repetitive enough. :) --Stux 17:00, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Recent Changes

I found that the ! means "not yet patrolled", m means "minor edit" and n means "new page". But what does a boldface entry in Recent Changes or my Watch List mean? Qermaq 21:31, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Bold on recent changes means the edited page is on your watchlist. Bold on your watchlist means you have not seen the changes that edit caused. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 21:34, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
I see. Sometimes, though, they stay bold in the watchlist after I look. I'll have to see if I can figure that out. Thanks. Qermaq 21:52, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
That would be if they were changed again in some way after you looked at them, or if you only click the "diff" button. You have to actually view the normal page, without showing changes at the top, for the Bold to go away. Thunderbird 21:54, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
I just figured that out as you posted this, actually. Thanks! Qermaq 21:57, 17 February 2006 (UTC)
No problem. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thunderbird 22:00, 17 February 2006 (UTC)

Song is wrong

I know that in the lyrics for experimental film the word is not infinity is eternity so i changed it to what it is supposed to be, but every time i change it, it changes back to infinity why is that?

Well, all the lyrics sites (including This Might Be a Wiki, the official They Might Be Giants wiki) say "infinity", and it sure sounds like infinity to me. Has Matt? (talk) 03:47, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Going back to the experimental film thing I have listen closely to the song a lot of times and i can tell that it say eternity, maybe if you listen with your ears you can tell that it says eternity not infinity please change.

The Google search for "infinity" yields ~1900 hits; the Google search for "eternity" yields ~ 30 hits. Search "Experimental Film" on iTunes, preview the song from The Spine Hits the Road to hear an alternative variation, with a clearer sound of "infinity". —BazookaJoe 03:56, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

While it's no proof, a Google Fight suggests "infinity" is far more universally heard. Qermaq 04:07, 18 February 2006 (UTC)
And, sorry for all the time you will now waste on Google Fight.
Look, in this kind of situation you are going to have to admit you are wrong. /saying rude and smart-alecky things like maybe you should listen with your ears is not a good way to do that. Seriously (Talk) 04:10, 18 February 2006 (UTC)

Problems in IE7b2

The wiki logo does not appear at all on this wiki when viewed using the latest beta release (2) of Internet Explorer 7. Here's a screenshot if you don't believe me. This issue has a simple workaround posted on Sourceforge: IE7 PNG Fix I believe the only thing necessary to fix this bug is to change one line of code that starts with:

<!--[if IE]>

to instead begin with:

<!--[if lt IE 7]>
It's probably not worth making a change like this until IE7 is officially released. Keep in mind that it's still in beta, and they're still trying to work out all the remaining bugs. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:57, 22 February 2006 (UTC)

No, there isn't. If a message is posted that covers what you were about to say, it's not necessary to post your message. Also, yelling isn't going to help anything. — Lapper (talk) 22:47, 9 March 2006 (UTC)
Additionally, when the Edit Conflict function malfunctions or is altered, then many times a post will inadvertently revert a perfectly legitimate post. It's probably a simple text wrapping issue. If your signature is too long, it will break on the spaces onto a new line. It may also be a result of an unclosed tag in your signature. — Lapper (talk) 15:45, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

I found the problem - it's not closing the div's it's having them. Dacheatbot has been informed of this, but, there's something wrong with the divs. Bluebry 01:58, 23 March 2006 (UTC)
Hey, [Dot com] fixed it! There was a table on his page? I never saw it. Bluebry 02:04, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Boldness

I'm looking for a good place to put this guideline: "Although we encourage you to be bold in making simple edits, doing so should not contradict established consensus. Additionally, the reason we encourage boldness is because it's fairly simple to revert a page to a previous state. For larger projects, therefore, the amount of boldness you display in making a change should be directly proportional to the ease of reverting that change. In other words, if it would take us a long time to undo what you've done, then you should start a discussion to see what the community thinks first." This isn't as catchy as the simple "be bold" slogan in the standard welcome message (and isn't really something new members need shoved in their faces), nor does it fit neatly here. But it should go somewhere. Ideas? — It's dot com 17:36, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

I think the guideline sounds good, and I think the place for it is HRWiki:Standards, in the General section. -- Tom 22:20, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

DVD Menu easter eggs

How do you get to the menu easter eggs on the DVD? — IceMan (T/C) 17:04, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

First off, nice signature Ice Man. I like it. I have heard it said that you need to hit a language button but my remote doesn't have one. I have never been able to get most of the commentaries to work, but my DVD player is really cheap. I R F 17:08, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

How do you know which IP Address creats users? NO!!! PLEASE... DON'T SHOOT!!! Tampo (T/C) AND SOMEONE GET THiS FREAKiN CURSOR AWAY FROM ME!!!!! 23:26, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Why don't you creat an alternate reality where you don't have to spell correctly and I talk like this? And your name is Watered Down. Well, Watered Down, due to the level of anonymity usually desired on a wiki (and especially at Wikipedia), the default installation of the MediaWiki software does not make it easy to match IPs with usernames at all. In fact, when you set it up, the system doesn't even record IPs with each edit. If you wanted to do what you're asking, you'd either have to hack or extend the software itself (as well as set various flags) or write a hook function that you then plugged into the software. (I myself have intended to write a nice, tidy hook function for use on our wiki, but writing functions takes time and I just haven't had the chance lately.) It is possible to examine the raw server log, but the file is so enormous (we get somewhere in the neighborhood of half a million file requests per day) that it's a real chore to try to search through it. In addition, searching through it is not something that can be done very quickly, and as a practical matter we would only ever want to do so if we thought something was really wrong. Why do you ask? — It's dot com 10:40, 26 March 2006 (UTC)
I just wanted to know. — Watered down 13:14, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay. It's just, I'd like the bar to appear when a page in my watchlist is edited. Bluebry 00:50, 27 March 2006 (UTC)

Where did Peasant's Quest debut?

Was it in a Strong Bad email like Trogdor or did the game preview just appear in cartoon shorts? I know in "for kids" SB plays the game. I've searched the sight and I can't seem to find the answer. Does anyone know?

July '04, the Preview was on the main page, IIRC. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Certain elements of Peasants Quest had already been introduced before hand however, and were also present in TROGDOR!. Those include Trogdor, the Kerrek, and the Jhonka. Thunderbird 23:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)

Submission Deleted

Haldo,

I'm relatively new here, and was discouraged to find out my subbmision to the new Strong Bad E-mail alternate universe had not only been deleted, but a request had been put up to not repost it. It's no big deal, but what are the restrictions on editing and adding. i.e. What's acceptable/what's not.

Bob the Builder guy

Some users (myself included) didn't belive that it was intended to be a reference. So we put it up to a vote, and the community decided that it was not a reference. The notice is to alert fellow editers as to the result of that vote. Thanks for contributing though, and we hope that you continue to do so. Thunderbird 00:21, 6 April 2006 (UTC)
