Old Characters Page
From Homestar Runner Wiki
view |
The Old Characters Page was an early attempt to introduce the various denizens of Free Country, USA. Rolling over a character highlights them under a spotlight, and clicking moves them front and center, with a short description displayed underneath in a command line style. Many of the character traits found in these descriptions have remained, but several have been discarded.
This page was eventually superseded by the Yearbook Character Page.
Current Page Title: The Original Website!
Original Page Title: She loves me...

[edit] Characters
- Strongest and maddest of the Strongs. Would you like a knuckle sandwich?
- The King of Town rules! He is Marzipan's dad and likes his sheep a lot. That's kinda weird, huh?
- Bubs runs the concessions down at the ball fields. He makes a helluva sno-cone. How 'bout that?
- The Cheat cheats all the time. What a cheater!
- Leader of the Strongs. Strong Bad comes from Parts Unknown. Lookout! He is trying to cheat off your paper!!
- Coach Z isn't really much of a coach, he just thinks Coach Z sounds cooler than just Z. What do you think?
- Everyone loves the Homestar Runner. He is a terrific athlete. He will share his ice cream with you.
- Strong Sad has been disowned by his brothers Strong Bad and Mad. On the plus side, he has very good handwriting!
- Marzipan is Homestar Runner's main squeeze. She loves horses and her boyfriend, too.
- Homestar Runner's best friend. Pom-Pom comes from the Isle of Pom where they bounce around like baksketballs.
[edit] Fun Facts
[edit] Remarks
- The clickable area for King of Town includes his spotlight, extending all the way to the top of the frame. This is not the case for any of the other characters.
- The concept of the King of Town being Marzipan's father was abandoned soon after this page. See the Fast Forward subsection for more detail.
- The page contains a swear in Bubs's description.
- "the cheat" is written in all lowercase when moused over.
- "Pom Pom" is not hyphenated when rolled over, but is written as "Pom-Pom" in his biography.
- Although The Poopsmith had previously appeared on the site, he was not considered a main character at this point. He was included on the next character page.
[edit] Goofs
- The word "basketballs" is misspelled as "baksketballs" in Pom-Pom's description.
- In Strong Bad's description, "lookout" should actually be two words.
- When any character from the back row is clicked on, they (and the floor) go over the characters in front of them.
- The highlighted King of Town is misaligned from the shadowed version, giving him the appearance of shifting toward the camera slightly when moused over.
- Similar to Old Intro 2, clicking the close button will result in being taken to a blank white page. Right-clicking at this page will say "movie not loaded..."
- This is because it is trying to redirect to the Old Flash Stuff menu, where all content is embedded.
[edit] Inside References
- The King of Town's Sheep are mentioned.
- "Everyone loves the Homestar Runner. He is a terrific athlete." quotes the opening lines from the Original Book, though the book read "Everybody" instead of "Everyone".
- Pom Pom's description references the Isle of Pom, as seen in Pom Pom, Too.
- The page title "She loves me..." is from the early game She Loves Me!, also in the Museum. It's possible that the Brothers Chaps just reused the same HTML for both and forgot to change the title.
- The loading animation was previously used in Marshmallow's Last Stand.
[edit] Real-World References
- "She loves horses and her boyfriend, too" is a lyric from the song "Free Fallin'" by Tom Petty.
[edit] Fast Forward
- Marzipan and The King of Town's relationship was quickly rewritten to no longer be familial. This concept has been addressed a few times:
- In a spring 2003 magazine feature, Marzipan states that the allegations are false and the King was just "trying to make himself look better by association."
- In an October 2003 interview, Matt Chapman jokes that the paternal relationship was "a horrible rumor", explaining that "that was just something that we just toyed around with briefly, but then decided that's not the way we wanted it to go" and adding that since "most people don't visit the Museum" it would likely not add too much confusion.
- In Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 17.2, a perturbed King of Town calls about information he found online suggesting that "at least at one time, you were my daughter?"
- Strong Sad being disowned is another idea that was abandoned; he is regularly shown living in the House of the Brothers Strong with his siblings.
- The text used is in the same font that appears on the Compy 386.
- "Parts Unknown" was mentioned again for describing the Marshmallow's Last Stand Strong Bad in lady...ing.
- Homestar tries to share his ice cream in being mean.
