[edit] Duplicate Strong Mads
This email is featured in the article duplicate characters, but a link to that article was deleted from this already. Should this email be removed from that article? BBG 23:58, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- If you ask me, I think we should keep it on both pages; bring the link back and keep it on the duplicated characters page. -Philip8o 00:04, 14 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree, there`s no solid evidence that it`s not 2 Strong Mads.-ThePizz
- I disagree. There's no evidence that it's two Strong Mads. On the other hand, Strong Mad stayed up all night to build this hiding spot. So it's not two SM's it's only one and a hiding sport that he built which happens to look like him. It's not a duplicate character. Loafing 00:57, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I disagree with your disagreement. Even if there aren't literally two Strong Mads, the fake is good enough to fool Strong Mad's own brother, who (despite being no genius) is usually depicted as one of the smarter H*R characters. And we get the visual effect of there being two Strong Mads at once. I say it IS twin characters. --Jay (Gobble) 03:04, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't seem to be consensus to include those kind of instances. Wouldn't we also have to include Pumpkin Carve-nival on the duplicate characters list then? Loafing 03:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I don't see why we shouldn't, now that you bring it up — but even then, it was revealed exactly who and what both the second Homestar and the second Strong Bad were, something untrue of the second Strong Mad here. --Jay (Gobble) 07:31, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I find it hard to believe that TBC meant anything else when Strong Mad said he'd been up all night. But I don't feel that strongly about whether or not it's included anyway. Green Helmet 13:15, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- To me, it seemed that Strong Mad had stayed up all night creating a cardboard cutout of his back or a lifestyle wax model of himself. However, Strong Mad clearly lacks the intellect and skills required to make such an item (without help). Remember his Box Computer, lotus flower and praying mantis? He might not be hiding behind a second real, breathing Strong Mad because it doesn't move at all... but it still is a really good duplication of Strong Mad. Maybe the solution is to broaden up the definition for Duplicate Characters to include these sort of instances? – The Chort 14:14, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't really say Occam's razor applies to a silly cartoon about dumb animal characters where Occam's razor has been dulled, bent, and thrown in the trash a million times in the past. Anyway, there IS a simpler explanation as to what Strong Mad did last night: he came up with the idea of where to hide. How did he implement it? Silly cartoon, dumb animal characters, you're overthinking it. --Jay (Gobble) 16:13, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Well to be fair, the spirit of Occam's razor is essentially the opposite of overthinking something. When Strong Mad says he's been up all night, he is responding to a direct question. "Did you make a hiding spot [...]". Taken at face value, it sounds (to me) like he stayed up all night making it. Obviously others see a different natural explanation of his words. Again, I don't have a strong feeling whether this counts as a "duplicate character" or not. My opinion (and edits) were based on what appeared to me to have happened in this toon, and the precedent established on the Talk page for duplicate characters. Green Helmet 13:25, 16 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Soap Box
OK. I've seen this appear and disappear from the Inside References, like, 3 times now. I think that we should link to the soap box page in the Inside References section. Yes, it is already linked to in the Transcript, but we can have both. And if not, we should at least be consistent and have all of the appearences of the soap box be linked in the same way. Right? -Philip8o
- No Green Helmet 00:18, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I agree that it shouldn't be linked more than once, as that's not in accordance with the wiki guidelines. However, in other toons where the soapbox appeared, it was linked in the Inside References section, not in the transcript. I'll change it and see what happens. ~That Guy Over There () 00:31, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Chonking and junking
I interpreted the start of the email song as "Junk it", and so did Charlie Jr. for Strong Bad Email Intros. However, Super Martyo Brother put "Chonk it" in Subtitles:sbemail196/en, and now I'm not sure. It does sound a bit more like that, and "Junk it and check it" doesn't make a huge amount of sense, though there's a relationship between junk and wreck. Of course, "chonk" isn't a word, but you can get there by changing the middle sound in "check". Any thoughts?
- I distinctly hear "junk." ~That Guy Over There () 01:28, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I hear joke actually. Positively. OptimisticFool 02:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I hear "choke it," with an odd amount of reverb at the start. And really, it sounds more like something I'd expect from Strong Bad.
- Okay, yeah.. could be "choke" .. choke it and check it. Sounds like it, and it makes the most sense. OptimisticFool 16:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- No, there's a distinct N sound. I listened to it 5 times, i hear "junk" definitely. — Defender1031*Talk 16:47, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, if you're listening at all closely, there's absolutely no way to not hear an "n" in there. I mean, if you don't think it's "junk," fine. I'm not sure exactly what it is either... but there's definitely an "n" in there. ~That Guy Over There () 18:08, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Finally put some headphones on. If I try real hard to hear an "n" sound, I can almost make myself believe that I hear it. But I'm still convinced it's "choke". You guys are just wrong. Plain and simple. =] OptimisticFool 03:07, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Sleepy Pee
The way it's written in the transcript makes no sense. If Strong Bad were to say "sleepy p-" as it says, he would just cut off at the beginning of the "puh" sound, but he clearly says "pee." Besides, seein' as how he was in the bathroom, I think it's pretty obvious that he was announcing his intention to urinate. Let's get a consensus on this. It's been changed back and forth a coupla times already. ~That Guy Over There () 01:33, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- He's obviously just woken up, he enters the bathroom, turns on the light and is heading directly towards the toilet. Maybe he keeps a peeler in there and wants it for his morning grapefruit? Or maybe he was just marveling aloud and how peacefully he slept? Umm... or not. Either way he obviously said pee and not p-. Green Helmet 01:39, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- I personally agree with you. For one, he does say "pee", not "puh". Also, it's not like Homestar cut him off almost as soon as he said it. He has a good two seconds to say it. -- Super Martyo boing! 01:41, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Scar's Hair
Is this really a note? He has the same hair as Moe from 3 Stooges? It's just a common buzz cut. I have that and I don't have any association with the Stooges. Not to mention it's on the wrong kid.
- The fun fact doesn't refer to Scar's hair, it refer's to Moe's hair, which has the distinctive style of the Stooges star and is not a buzz cut at all. I think it is you, my friend, who has the wrong kid. ~That Guy Over There () 02:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- We need this reference. The hair style is the only thing that makes the kid a "Moe". It isn't just some kid. His name is Moe. And there aren't very many ways to show that someone is named something. He could have a name tag. But it is funnier this way. And thats the whole point to this cartoon...to be funny. -Philip8o
- Exactly...I think. It helps you easily identify the characters (Scar=scar on face;Moe=bowl cut). DevonM(talkยทcont-ribs) 04:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, it turns out I got my Stooges confused. I was thinking of Curley, and only saw some kind of black cap on the shorter kid's head. I didn't notice it was actually hair, it's rather hard to make out in the thumbnail. But yeah, mostly I just got two of the Stooges mixed up.
- Should we STUFF it? -- Lazylaces Talk 17:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- No. We don't need STUFF anymore. Plain discussion is preferred. — Defender1031*Talk 17:45, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

- And STUFF what anyway? Anony asks, "Isn't this wrong?" .. That Guy Over There responds, "No, here's why it's right." .. Anony responds, "Oh, yes, that is right." So, just what are talking about STUFFing/discussing? OptimisticFool 17:54, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Kick the Can
Kick the can is also a real life reference to the outdoor multi-player game Kick the Can. -- lelila (talk) 06:44, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Threestar Legger?
In a few frames, Homestar has three legs! Creepy... --AlmsforthePudgy 07:22, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Oh my crap, you're right! Added to the article. – The Chort 14:27, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Can anyone decompile the flash to find out why this is happening? I find it very much more highly irregular than most of the goofs that come through here. — Defender1031*Talk 18:22, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Here's the Flash shape TBC used for one of Homestar's legs when it is at a ninety-degree angle. Where this Flash shape originated is beyond me, but that's the single shape used for ONE of his legs in this toon. The other (larger) leg is another Flash shape entirely, thus Homestar has three legs in the frames where this shape is used. Oh, and like many Flash shapes (and I don't know why), this is inserted as a mirror image. OptimisticFool 18:48, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Remote-controlled Lights
I don't think it's noteworthy that the lights came on by themselves when Strong Bad walks into the bathroom. I mean, anybody who's watching the toon can see that neither Strong Bad nor Homestar turned the lights on. Since it's visually apparent, I don't think it needs to be noted as a fun fact. ~That Guy Over There () 14:30, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- You're right. Not only is it a cartoon, but there is no need to explain the other weird things that happen in other toons (Homestar's arms, Homsar's hat ect.) The magic lights just add to the element of surprise. Oh, and everyone knows that Homestar has invisible arms and/or limited psychokinesis anyway. – The Chort 14:34, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tied for Most Emails
As far as I can tell, the Lappy is now tied for the most emails with the Compy, with 77!!! I wonder if this will have any sort of impact on the next email, when it breaks the record?
- The talk page is for discussing the article, not the toon. Idle chat like this is fine, but it belongs in the forum, not on the Talk page. ~That Guy Over There () 18:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Coins
Should it be noted that all the coins, while having different sizes, have the same head? -- Lazylaces Talk 17:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I noticed that myself. Yeah, they're different sizes, but upon closer zoomed-in inspection, they all have the same face vaguely similar to Jefferson's. --Jay (Gobble) 18:11, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- There is only one Flash shape used for the coins, and they may be double-sided with the same image (with one side having the President of Free Country, USA facing one way, the other side with him facing the other way .. in the air they all face (to our) left, on the ground one is facing right). So, one Flash shape is adjusted to different sizes for the coins. OptimisticFool 18:32, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Bathroom Goof
I reverted the goof to mention Strong Bad's arm disappearing in the bathroom scene for a reason. There are TWO SEPARATE fixed goofs - at the beginning of the scene, Strong Bad's ENTIRE ARM disappears, and the second time the familiar outline-effect occurs. Please do not remove it again. There were FOUR different instances of the outline effect. ~That Guy Over There () 18:36, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry about that. I did go back and watch the scene (twice), and still never saw the outline-effect goof in that scene. I guess I am just blind. Green Helmet 20:37, 15 July 2008 (UTC)
- No problem. Maybe that one got fixed before the other instances...? I was just upset that it kept getting reverted. I hope I didn't come off as rude. Anyway, yeah... that instance is actually the one shown in the picture on the article, and it was the first one to be added as a goof. ~That Guy Over There () 02:20, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Ollie Ollie Oxen Free?
I don't get it. Please add to explanations. – The Chort 12:19, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's what you say in a game of hide and seek if you can't find the person you seek to end the game in a give-up. (If it really is to be added to the main page, it should be done by somebody else who can explain it better. Personally, I found it was quite clear.)--Cass from Germany 17:06, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- On second thought, I looked it up on wikepedia and copied it over here. --Cass from Germany 17:20, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Animatronics
Is it worth noting that Animatronics are mainly used by WDI (Walt Disney Imagineering) for use in the disney parks? Foogs. 15:34, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- No. Someone might argue that they are mainly used at Chuck E. Cheese's. OptimisticFool 15:41, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Also, Disney uses the word Audio-Animatronics. -- Lazylaces Talk 21:53, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Marzipan's sign
Okay, whoever keeps removing the nod to Marzipan's sign needs to watch the scene very carefully. Seems like a typical sign that's supported on a picket of wood... However, when she turns it around the wood is not facing us like it should be. It is once again on the back, and this is a physical impossiblity. Stop removing it from the page.
- You're not thinking in three dimensions. Maybe this will help you understand why the wood is not visible. OptimisticFool 05:31, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- The whole two poster boards thing would explain that, but if you look at the piece of wood that's attached, it seems too thick for you to be able to look at the sign from that angle and not be able to see the other poster board attached to the back. ~That Guy Over There () 18:49, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- It's a cartoon. OptimisticFool 18:51, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Y'know, that argument can't just be applied to everything. ~That Guy Over There () 18:55, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- "seems too thick" - I guess it's a matter of opinion. Or maybe a case of "you spot it, you got it"? OK, so, whatevs, even if it's objectively confirmable and all here agree that it actually IS too thick, that wouldn't rule out... applying the "suspend your disbelief long enough to remember that it's a cartoon" argument. --Tenderly, I remain, Cableman Jorge 19:04, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, what's in the example is certainly a stick... Marzipan is clearly wielding a stake.
- Oh no! a stake is much thicker than a stick so certainly there's no way to wrap the posterboard such that it is flush against the wood... oh wait, there is. — Defender1031*Talk 23:16, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] HELP!
An animatronic is a puppet- or robot-like mechanized figure that can add motion, as though the figure is alive. This is worded badly (badly worded?). HELP! -- Lazylaces Talk 17:56, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
- Changed to An animatronic is a puppet-like figure with robotics and/or electronics used to create the illusion that the figure is alive. Worded more betterly now? Green Helmet

[edit] Robotic Easter Egg
When Animatronic Strong Bad mentions his "dad", he is obviously referring to Strong Bad. Why is this mentioned under "inside references"? I thought the parental inside reference was only when characters, major b/w minor, mentioned their never-seen-and-probably-never-will-be-seen parents - posted by Anonymous Contributor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Contributor 10:58, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
- Whenever someone's parents are mentioned, it is usally added to the Inside References section. Also, it is also possible that the Animatronic Strong Bad is refering to Strong Bad's dad, that is, if it is speaking on behalf of Strong Bad. – The Chort 15:28, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Tall and Short
I happened to notice in the first scene that Homestar and Strong Bad are the same height. Is this usually the case?
- I've always had the impression that Homestar was slightly taller.
For example in the one about lookin' in a bag the difference in their height is roughly equivalent to the thickness of the soles of Homestar's shoes.Green Helmet 20:38, 21 July 2008 (UTC)- Actually, now that I look closely at the image I put as an example... if you actually measure them there they are pretty much exactly the same height. (Homestar is slightly "higher" on the grass). So, yeah. I guess they are the same height. Green Helmet 20:41, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
- According to the figurines (or at least the first set), Homestar is taller than Strong Bad, but their size has been changed up and down randomly throughout the series. Most of the time, they seem to be equally tall, and I can only assume that this is because it works or/and looks better. But who am I to know? ;)--Cass from Germany 22:39, 21 July 2008 (UTC)
