[edit] Willy on Wheels

In order to properly block this troll (when he's not using a user name, he's recognizable by his IP number: his always begins "65.167.69") you have to block the whole range; he's been known to switch IP addresses on a whim should one get blocked. In order to do this, block the range as "65.167.69.0/24". Of course, I'm || this close to putting a permanent ban on the range, but I fear that such an action would block many totally legit users. --Jay (Gobble) 16:39, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I had no idea that that was Willy on Wheels. Doesn't he usually move pages rather than creating crap pages? Thanks for the notice though. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:46, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)
It could be a coincidence, and some other troll just happened to stumble into the range. But the IP address matched. --Jay (Gobble) 16:49, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] TGS Template

Nice work with the Stinkoman 20X6 Template (a good idea that someone should have come up with a long time ago) but we already have a Teen Girl Squad template. --Jay (Gobble) 19:08, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I just saw that. Oops. I don't know how I could've missed that when I checked TGS #1. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:09, 1 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Picture orginazing

Nice work on all those pictures when I'm away! You're much faster than me. Anyway, It's Dot Com asked us to patrol our edits. I'm going to do the most recent now, but after that could you continue the patroling? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:20, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)

I don't patrol edits (in the sense of marking the stupid checkbox). I happen to think that the patrol box is a really bad idea. Sorry I can't help you out. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:22, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
As you wish. I'll do it. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:23, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I continue to question the utility of that, but whatever floats your boat. (By the way, great jorb on the picture captioning, and great idea for a new project!) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:25, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Thanks. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 19:30, 7 Sep 2005 (UTC)
I thought I'd be cool and try and patrol them all, but there's just to many of them. w00t, Homestar Coder.
Joe tought me this trick when patrolling edits: it's better to open a whole bunch with tabs in Firefox (or any other tabbed browser), and patrol from there. I can get through a good 30 in three or four minutes. I suggest patrolling your edits, as it makes Recent Changes easier on the eyes for all of us. :) —FireBird|Talk 23:31, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Just for fun, I timed myself. I patrolled 30 edits in 1:33:60. Those numbers were way off. :) —FireBird|Talk 23:36, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
(ACupOfCoffee notes that marking the stupd checkbox lessens time wasted by patrollingedits that ave alreay bee patrolled, and that it's heck reverting edits tht have already been reverted and having to restore the sbesqunet edits.) — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 18:49, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Amanda notes that she always patrols edits that have already been patrolled. Anyone can click a checkbox, it doesn't mean the edit is valid. And I never have a problem with reverting edits that have already been reverted. Don't you have to look at the history when reverting an edit? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 21:22, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Not necessarily. The time and date of the previous revision are shown "Difference between revisions" in the recent changes page. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 22:40, 31 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, I see what's happening. I have an option set in my personal options to group edits to the same page together on the Recent Changes page, so if both an edit and its revision are on the RC page, they'll be right next to each other. I like it a lot, but I think it needs Javascript and a fast connection. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:53, 31 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] An Answer

You just asked where that 'Powered By The Cheat' screenshot is from. I think it's from crazy cartoon. Behold my skills to gather data quickly. I didn't know how to change it myself, so I dropped you a line. --DorianGray

I think you're right. And changing image information is quite easy: just click on the image and then on the edit tab. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:01, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Well, I figured you could do it quicker and make it look all uniform with all the other ones you've been doing faster than I could. (Of course, you'd be hard-pressed to do anything fast if I keep sending you comments...) Anyways, good luck. And if you need more image sources found in a hurry, keep me in mind. --DorianGray
Thank you for your help! And my captions aren't all that uniform. I'm just trying to put a good description with links on each image. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:07, 13 Sep 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Today's solid jumble

Image:noarmssb.PNG - I think that Strong Bad has no arms in the safari adventure. Your views? --Dinoshaur 19:48, 7 Oct 2005 (UTC)

I am curious as to why you posted this here. And I definitely see his arms quite obviously in the picture. small_logo.pngUsername-talk 19:50, 7 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Seriously? I only see his fists. Nope, I don't see an arm there at all. --Dinoshaur 19:52, 7 Oct 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Style Bitings

Hey they, Coder. First of all, I must admit I bit your style once before by basically copying your signature template and working out my own version (I wanted a color other than blue). Thank you kindly for your unwitting munificence. Now, to more pressing matters: this morning I saw what appears to be a little monkey-thing waving madly next to your signature. Now, I don't claim any domain over monkey-related things, but I am the smoking monkey and...well, D 'n' D Greg put it best! But seriously, cool little monkey-thing. I promise I won't serreptitiously copy that and use it for my own! ^_^ — THE SMOKING MONKEY 12:56, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

Heh. I think the monkey is probably too big though. I might change it to a koopa shell or parabeetle. You can take the monkey if you like, and I'll switch to something else :) He's not smoking, though, I think he's scratching his head. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:52, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Yikes! I didn't mean for you to change it, but thanks regardless! — THE SMOKING MONKEY 17:44, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
The monkey was too big, and I like kitties better (It was between that and a cucco):) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 17:47, 14 October 2005 (UTC)
Agreed; cats are good. I've got two! :) — THE SMOKING MONKEY 17:53, 14 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pending deletion?

does this mean he left?

Actually, Amanda is a she, and she simply made a spoof of Wikipedia's This article is pending deletion template. She is in no way gone. — Lapper (talk) 20:13, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

It's true. I'm still there like shareware. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:00, 17 October 2005 (UTC)

i cant TAKE IT ANYMORE! Hrwiki has made a slightly noticeableable mistake, one that cound cost them the site until then, battlefrank: 1 hrwiki:0 -battlefrank

Wait! Before you start again, maybe we can reach an agreement. Y'know, talk about it? - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
Well, if you can't take it anymore... then wouldn't you actually want to tell us what big mistake we are making? Homestramy20|Talk 22:23, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
The 'mistake' was banning his accounts repeatedly. (He's Willy on Wheels) - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
Oh. Didn't realise that was WoW. Homestramy20|Talk 22:39, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
I've left a message on his IP's User Talk page, asking if he wanted to negotiate. I'm holding my breath. - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
Honestly, I don't think that was the best idea. I honestly think the best thing to do is to not communicate with the troll, and eventually, they may get bored. But, I guess we'll see what WoW has to say. Homestramy20|Talk 22:45, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
It may be a moot point now, though, as I think I just missed one of his IP switches. - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
Please ignore this guy. He's nothing more than a garden variety troll. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:28, 24 October 2005 (UTC)
no, im not willy on wheels, im a guy from half a year ago with issues with homestar coder, which he has pushed further, just wait a while, it should be 3-4 months when the mistake takes action and the wiki is doomed, about the IP message, saying that im considered a retard here already, its not going to happen, and IM NOT WoW! i dont even know who the guy is! by the way, nice job denying that you ever met me homestar coder -battlefrank

If you want your SB email answered write it in my talk pannal and i'll answer it as good as i can like SB mabey i'll even make put some Microsoft Paint drawings just give em' to me NOT Billy Bob Bob

[edit] I was wondering

Hey I was wondering do you know how to take scrrenshots on a computer? If so please tell me.

-NOT Billy Bob Bob

The easiest way is to use the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. Just hit "print screen" and the screen shot will be copied to the clipboard (but it won't look like anything happened). Then open up a paint / image program and choose paste, and your screenshot will be there. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:52, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks it really works! I needed it for a Homestar/Star Wars spoof im working on! Bye!

[edit] Unknown Sources Found

Yep. The Poopsmith pic is from big white face. And sorry for editing your page. I misread and thought it was your talk page. Anyways, I'll look into a few of the others. --DorianGray

Thanks muchly! Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:26, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Strong Bad's pic is from japanese cartoon. :) - KieferSkunk

Sweet, I was right. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:30, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

And that Pom Pom pic? It's from 'Strong Bad is in Jail'. You were right--twice. --DorianGray

Woot! Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:37, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
And furthermore, I also verified that that Strong Sad pic is, in fact, from funny. You're on a roll tonight. --DorianGray
I think you're better at this than me (I'd verify some of these myself, but I'm in a cluster and shouldn't play distracting cartoons.) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:40, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Got another one for you. Marzipan's pic is from virus, just before she gets turned into ASCII art. - KieferSkunk

Cool. I was wrong on this one -- I was thinking Where's The Cheat? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:49, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
The Marzipan from Where's The Cheat? has a much more curved smile. It looks almost like a complete circle when her mouth is closed. This one is much closer to a straight line. - KieferSkunk
Good catch. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:51, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

And Old-Timey Strong Bad's is from Parsnips A-Plenty. The tricky bit about this one, though: it's from when Strong Bad fell off the cliff. The uploader must've flipped it vertically before uploading. That's pro'lly why it's a little hard to match up. --DorianGray

Awesome catch, I totally wouldn't have thought of that. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:53, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

And the PBTC Strong Bad is from crazy cartoon. It matches right to the bit of Homestar's foot in the shot. Also, the crazy cartoon version's feet are smaller than the mile version. --DorianGray

Noted. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:56, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
In addition, that PBTC Homestar was from the same exact shot, I'll bet. The glove matches right up to Strong Bad, the way the shoe matches in the previous one. --DorianGray
But doesn't Homestar have an "I Love Cooties" sign in that shot? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:11, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
The 'I love Cooties' sign was in mile. "Kick it out, B-hand!" --DorianGray
Right. I read "mile" instead of "crazy cartoon" for some reason. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:25, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

(redundant) I wanna play too! ... Yay! I found one: (i think), PBTC SB: It definitely can't be mile, notice that it's homestar's shoe on the bottom right. It never appears that close or at that level in the mile, but it does in crazy cartoon. The background doesn't match any BG on mile, but it does match crazy cartoon's perfectly. I dunno about the other PBTCs. --Stux 23:12, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

Oops! Sorry guys, I feel silly now, for some reason I didn't equate that previous thread with PBTC... so consider that paragraph redundant. This time i'll double check it hasn't been discussed! Anyway, I went through most of the puppet stuff and the only one that came even close was the external short seen in lackey. The only difference is the quality and field of view-- my guess is that this picture must've been taken from a DVD edition. I don't own the DVDs so someone who does will have to verify. --Stux 23:30, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
I just labelled the Homestar puppet pic as from lackey. You think it isn't? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:39, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
No no! I do think it is! I am just not 100% sure since this looks to be from a DVD, and I don't know if there are DVD-only puppet stuff that would be candidates. But in my opinion, yes I beleive that is the right source. My apologies if I was unclear. --Stux 23:47, 27 October 2005 (UTC)
Oh, ok! Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 23:51, 27 October 2005 (UTC)

According to Strong Mad Evolution, Strong Mad appears in his singlet without the M in A Holiday Greeting, Tis True, Pom Pom, Tis True and Yearbook Character Page. I can't find any single cartoon on the site that shows SM standing alone like this (and not partially obscured by another character), so it's possible this pic was taken directly from the character-page SWF file via a decompiler. (His upper body is masked by the M.) - KieferSkunk

I thought it might be something like that, since I didn't remember Strong Mad standing by himself like that in any of the mentioned toons. I haven't seen Tis True, though. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 00:12, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
The image history mentions something about a "blue background" being removed. However, I checked the different versions and they all look exactly alike. I don't know then if the 'older version' got lost or what not but I was hoping it would yield some information about the source. --Stux 18:15, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Even with the "blue background" hint I'm not sure where this would come from. I'm pretty sure Strong Mad doesn't stand by himself on a blue background in Holiday Greeting and I know he doesn't on Yearbook. Tis True maybe? Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:30, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I checked both Yearbook and Holiday Greeting: the background in Yearbook is read, while the background in Holiday is pinkish-looking stage curtain, and of course he's not alone in this one. On both counts it would have to be a flash decompile, but it doesn't explain the blue. I seems like Tis True would answer many questions. --Stux 18:38, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

The Cheat Evolution: barring Tis True, cuz it's on DVD, I managed to rule out all of the toons mentioned in the page except The Interview. The background definitely matches the picture as well. It would have to be taken just before they tie The Cheat's arms with duct tape. --Stux 18:11, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

The Interview seems about right to me. Thanks. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 18:30, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
You're welcome! My Pleasure! --Stux 18:38, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
DOH! You beat me to it! I was going to confirm that The Cheat's picture is from The Interview as well. Great jearb there! - KieferSkunk 18:30, 28 October 2005 (UTC)
LOL! That was quite a narrow margin... hey we can be co-confirmers or something. --Stux 18:38, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

The pic of Homestar is from Old Intro 2. You're right again. 1000 points to Aurora. Not that they count. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 18:05, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Strong Mad minus M

It comes from the unfinished toon tis true Pom Pom, tis true. You can acsess it on disc one of the Strong Bad Email DVD.

Looks like an anony confirmed the Tis True connection so I'm putting that on the pic for now. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 19:23, 28 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] The Strong Mad Pic

I decompiled that O Holy Crap cartoon, took the frame where all the main characters are standing, and deleted everybody except Strong Mad. Then, I converted the thing to a PNG. —Gafaddict Image:Gafaddict sigpic.gif (Talk | Contribs.) 22:28, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Thanks, Gafaddict! Mystery solved. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 03:23, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Here is another picture for you to investigate. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 05:25, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

Wow. How... weird. It's definitely not from any page mentioned in Wood-davers. My guess is that did not originate from the HR website. But from ... some... site. Igh, I dunno. It's pretty though! --Stux 05:52, 30 October 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, it's definitely not an H*R picture... If anyone can track this down, they deserve a pizza trophy. --DorianGray
I once Googled Wood Davers and the only picture I got was from this site. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:00, 30 October 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Magus

Nice Magus gif! Is there any better game than Chrono Trigger? Trey56 16:13, 2 November 2005 (UTC)

Thanks! And Yes, but not that many. :) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 16:14, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
I beg to differ, HC. There is no better game than Chrono Trigger. :) — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:36, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
I prefer Final Fantasy Tactics (and Smash Bros. for multiplayer) but I've certainly been enjoying my first playthrough of Chrono Trigger -- yeah, I missed it on the SNES. (Chrono Trigger has a better story and better graphics than FFT though.) Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 21:01, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
(Agh! Edit conflicts!)Got to be Animal Crossing for me. But I'm different like that. Still, nice GIF. - KookykmanImage:kookysig.gif(t)(c)(r)
Come now. What about Legend of Zelda, OOT? Rogue Leader / (my talk) 21:05, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, I enjoyed Animal Crossing, but didn't have enough time for it. LOZ:OOT I recieved with the Zelda collection for GameCube and never finished. Never finished Wind Waker, either -- school gets in the way of these things. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 21:12, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
CT is delightful. It ranks up there with Xenogears as one of my favorite console rpgs ever. All Zelda games are excellent for the action-adventure genre... I was very disappointed to hear that Twilight Princess has been delayed. Also, on the subject of video games... if you own a PS2 you owe it to yourself to check out Shadow of the Colossus. Seriously. At least rent the darned thing. It's fricking amazing. -Krendal
I love Smash Bros! Super Metroid is another one of my favorites. I know this is a bit of a different Genre, but does anyone remember a nice little fun game called Contra? :) --Stux 04:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
In our dorm we had the Playstation rigged up to play Contra with a DDR pad. It's pretty much impossible to get past the first level ;) What Smash characters are your faves? I like Sheik and Ice Climbers. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 04:40, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Wow! I didn't even know you could do that... Contra on DDR? Hold on I need a minute to recouperate. (I take it you couldn't get anywhere even if you managed to get the "super-duper-ultra-secret" konami code done?) As for Smash -- whoa! who are these guys? Are they from the GameCube version? I've only played the GC version once :( The one I have is the original N64 version where I almost exclusively play Pikachu (yeah people hate me for that), but I love link and captain falcon. I'm so out of touch with the newer stuff, it's sad. :'( ... :)--Stux 04:54, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
So the Contra on DDR thing occurs when you have a special CD that lets you play Nintendo ROMs on your PS and a DDR pad. The problem is that you can't move, jump and shoot at the same time. Yeah, the characters I named are from the GC version. I've never really played the N64 version. The GC version owns. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 04:59, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Hmmm... would you be able to use two pads with two ppl, one shooting the other moving? Hehe. I wonder if you can play Megaman X with that too? ;) Anyway, the N64's a riot -- of course it could be considered the granddaddy of the GC version(s). The one time I did play the GC version I noticed the controls were different, so it was harder to enjoy having to overcome that learning curve and all you know. But it was close. I want to play it now! (Anybody wanna lend me their GC?) --Stux 05:42, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes! Absolutely Animal Crossing! Best. Game. Ever. Well, one of. right up there with OoT, Wind Waker, MK64, SSBM, and hopefully LOZ:TP. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 18:25, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] RadSkat3

Hey! I'm sorry, that would be a little confusing and bad if I intentionally made bad edits. It's trolling, is it? I am a n00b (there, I said it) and will need help in order for me to stop bothering people w/ my n00bness. 'Cause then I won't be a n00b. And tell Venusy that it would be The Cheat as Homestar Runner and not just Homestar. Thanks. -RadSkat3

No problem. If you would like to talk to Venusy about his (her?) user page, you should post a comment on his talk page. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 02:09, 4 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WikiTikiTavi: The new WoW?

Is there anything we can do about this guy that we aren't already doing? He/she just spams so fast it's hard to keep up with him/her (Dorian Gray had just reverted a page and it was spammed again in less than a minute). Maybe we just have to be vigiliant and keep up with him. Anyway, I was just wondering if there was anything we could do. At any rate, I remain, vigilantly yours, Heimstern Läufer 06:17, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

The bad thing is, that "he" is not a guy. It's a bot who choose random IPs and usernames. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:33, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
I assumed it wasn't just someone sitting at a keyboard (I don't know that this kind of speed is humanly possible). I probably wouldn't have been able to come up with the word "bot", though (my internet terminology is a bit weak). But yeah, that's probably hard to counter. Heimstern Läufer 07:04, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
How is this guy able to control so many IP addresses at once!? Zombie machines? --Stux 07:09, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
I'm guessing Dark Magic. The Imperius Curse, perhaps? Heimstern Läufer 06:26, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] blocking

Speaking of WoW, why'd you block me? (This is Bubsty, on a different IP). I didn't do anything wrong, as far as I can tell. -Bubsty.

Please unblock bUBSTYUser:pieinbubsface/sig 15:40, 7 November 2005 (UTC)

You're certainly not on the block log; I can't imagine you were blocked intentionally. —AbdiViklas 15:42, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
No, Bubsty was blocked. And I don't know why. -Bubsty
I'm afraid I still don't know what you mean. "User:Bubsty" is not anywhere in the block log. That leaves IP blocks. Was Homestar Coder the one who blocked you? What's the affected IP? In other words, what exact message are you getting when you try to log in? — It's dot com 19:11, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I did not block any "Bubsty," and if your IP were blocked, you couldn't leave these messages on my page. Please post the message you get when trying to log in. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 22:52, 7 November 2005 (UTC)
I wonder if this is what he means:
*19:59, 6 November 2005, Homestar Coder blocked #1803 (expires 19:59, 7 November 2005) (Autoblocked because your IP address has been recently used by "Willy On Wheels". The reason given for Willy On Wheels's block is: "wow")
I'm not sure what #1803 means but I'm guessing it's a userID and it might correspond to Bubsty's. I wonder then why the IP's would match.--Stux 00:40, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
I believe that block was a response to this edit of the Sandbox. I don't know how that may or may not have affected Bubsty, but that's definitely what promted the block above. —AbdiViklas 01:23, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
However, I should note that the edit you mentioned happened on Nov 6th, and the block (no longer in the list? I'm guessing someone took it off?) is dated nov 7th (at least according to my time zone [EST -0500] settings.) UPDATE: The are both dated nov 6th. The block is gone b/c it expired. --Stux 01:32, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
It may just be a coincidence, but Bubsty was the last one to edit the sandbox before that message and subsequent block. I think any clues, even ones that may be unrelated, help... --DorianGray
The only one I blocked was User:Willy on Wheels. The only way Bubsty would be blocked by that is if a) he has a dynamic IP (in which case he can just log on and off the Internet, and problem solved) or b) Willy on Wheels originated from his computer. We won't know what happened until Bubsty posts the exact error message he gets. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 01:38, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Edit Conflict: Lol, ok this should be more informative (not to mention accurate): Bubsty's edit in the sandbox has a timestamp of 19:57 (EST:-0500), the same as the block above. The stamp on the WOW reported above is 19:59. So Bubsty's not blocked right now (or shouldn't be), but if he returns and logs back in on the same IP address (is he dialup?) will re-block him again for 24 hrs (i'm guessing?). --Stux 01:39, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Look, people, Bubsty's IP address was not blocked if the message above really came from him, and I don't see what this has to do with the block on WOW. Please stop speculating until Bubsty replies with the exact error message he gets. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 01:44, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Sorry Homestar Coder, I didn't mean to get you upset, I just got caught up in the excitement. Thank you for letting us use your user space for this. --Stux 01:55, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
No, it's fine. I was just getting frustrated that I couldn't reply because of all the edit conflicts... Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 01:58, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Update: Bubsty's problem apparently has been resolved, and he responded to a copy I had made to all related posts in his talk page. --Stux 03:06, 8 November 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, its been solved, and thanks for trying to help. But wait... were you saying that you suspected that I was Willy on Wheels?? — talk Bubsty edits 03:40, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Okay, good. Nobody thought you were WoW, some people thought you might accidentally share an IP address with a WoW username. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 03:56, 8 November 2005 (UTC)
Oh good. You had me worried for a second there. — talk Bubsty edits 01:32, 9 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] not WoW

you just came to a conclusion without thinking that i am willy in wheels, i dont know who he is, why he spams plus the fact that i have not posted here for 6-8 months, lets just completely ignore eachother before a new flame war starts--Battlefrank 21:57, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Getting started in Perl

Amanda, do you code in Perl at all? I'm trying to get started with Perl under Windows and I'm just not sure what I need. I'm looking at ActivePerl or PXPerl. Is there one you would recommend over the other? I'm just a bit lost. Can you also recommend any good Perl tutorials? Thanks. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 22:10, 14 November 2005 (UTC)

I hope you guys don't mind me butting in. I hope I can give a little bit of info to help you get started. Perl.com I'm sure you've checked out and has tons of information (the documentation section has syntax information and what not; the first few sections seem to give a decent introduction -- the data types is one of several important features to understand). I'm sorry I don't know of any online tutorials. If you're familiar with c/c++ it'll make the syntax easier to understand. If you know PHP then you know perl syntax already. As for environment: I have ActivePerl installed on my machine, I think one of its benefits is that it can communicate with ActiveX controls but I am not too clear of that. Once installed I know for certain you can invoke perl commands from the command line without any problem. I also have the cygwin UNIX emulation environment if you've heard of it. Perl is one of the many packages that can be installed through cygwin and that's where I use it a little more due to its similarity to most unix environments. If you need an IDE I use Eclipse. It is a Java based IDE designed not just for JAVA development but its plugin capabilities allow you to code in C/C++ and Perl using the EPIC plugin. Be advised, when I first installed Eclipse I was told to install version 3.0 when installing Epic so that the debugger would work well. Apparently that all has been fixed, but I haven't double checked that so you may have to test that out. Alright, I hope this info is of use. --Stux 23:22, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks, Stux, and no, I don't mind you "butting" in. I decided to just jump in and went with ActivePerl shortly after I posted my first comment above. It appears to be working, and yes, I can run Perl stuff from the command line. I guess the real reason I wanted to learn Perl is that I've heard several people talk about creating disposable Perl scripts for quick and dirty text manipulation. I'm not at all interested in coding anything on a large scale, just having another tool in my arsenal for hacking text files. I use find and replace way too much and have decided I need something a little more powerful. I've already used Perl on the command line to execute a couple regular expressions and I'm absolutely loving it. The notepad clone I use (EditPad) has a Pro version ($39.99) that can do regex from the find and replace box. Anybody know of other tools like this? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 00:19, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
I've had EditPad Pro for a while now and I love it. It's so nice to be able to edit files at the hexadecimal level without worrying that the line endings are being changed or that something is being added to the file. Calling it a Notepad clone is like saying Adobe Photoshop is just Microsoft Paint with a couple of features thrown in. But I didn't know until just now that EditPad Pro could handle regular expressions. What joy! Thanks, Joey! — It's dot com 00:40, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
I downloaded a program called Programmers Notepad and it seems alright. It's open source and has syntax highlighting and regex find and replace. I'm not convinced it's as full featured as EditPad Pro, but it looks to be a good alternative. The regex find and replace are a little squirrelly though. It deviates from standard regex syntax for a few things like backreferencing. — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 19:05, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
Hmmm, I'd like to try that out sometime. For the past few years i've been using the Programmer's File Editor, it's a little dated, don't think it has regex support, but it does read UNIX and does indents and of course it's free. It has macros too but I've never really used them. So something newer might... be... in order!? --Stux 19:30, 15 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] While you were away...

Hi Homestar Coder! I noticed you haven't been around in a while, so I figured I'd leave a note saying we miss you and I hope things are going well with you (I can only assume you're being swamped with schoolwork). Many things have happened while you were gone (you know, the usual: several incidents of mass vandalims, DoS attacks, downtime, and a shutdown of the new user system) and we've been working hard, but these guys have everything under control. Just hope that everything is well and that this message finds you well when you get it! --Stux 23:32, 17 November 2005 (UTC)

I noticed you came back rather quietly... welcome back! --Stux 02:24, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Don't forget TBC giving us a big freaking check. That's always cool. Thunderbird 02:28, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Donations

Well, Here's a donation of Coffee:

And Here's a donation of Sugar for that Coffee:

(I had to make sure I hadn't given one already, and the link I found using binary search! Nice, isn't it? Binary search that is.) Hopefully you should be almost done, so this'll be good for that last stretch! If you need more sugar I can get some from the KOT. --Stux 15:37, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Binary search is awesome! I actually have almost all my work done now, but I'm always happy with coffee & sugar (which I consume separately, of course) :) Thanks! Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 15:49, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
You are very welcome! Ohhh... separately! --Stux 16:15, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Hey

Hey I noticed you are a sysop...does anybody know what happened to homestarrunner.com? It seems odd to me that it's been nearly a month since their last update, especially with a "Decemberween" in the middle. I wonder if the Chaps' are alright Rocky8311

I wish I knew, but nobody here has anything to do with TBC or homestarrunner.com; we're just fans. I would assume that they're just busy this Decemberween. Homestar Coderhomestar-coder-sig.gif 01:57, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

I've found some of your images. You were right about the 1936 field and The Cheat's computer room: they are from Kick the Can and weird dream respectively.
