The Olympics have historical significance to the Homestar Runner universe as the Original Book was created while Mike Chapman and Craig Zobel had jobs in the 1996 Summer Olympics, which were held in their home state of Georgia. The worldwide sports event receives as much attention in the Homestar universe as it does in the real world.
Appearances
- Fan Stuff — There is a picture of Homestar Runner as speed skater Apolo Ohno. The comment reads, "I didn't watch much winter olympics but Stephanie sure did!"
- Email the show — One of the cue cards that Homestar recites reads "Olympic race".
- 3 Times Halloween Funjob — The Cheat dresses up as Izzy, the mascot of the 1996 Olympics.
- Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 9.2 — Strong Bad tells Marzipan that she should get a cable TV subscription that includes the Olympic Triplecast, which was an extention of NBC's Olympic coverage.
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 7 — After Tompkins "dies somehow", his torso, legs and head are seen on a podium and the caption reads "torso takes silver".
- Teen Girl Squad Issue 10 — Cheerleader claims that she, So and So, and What's Her Face can't go to The Ugly One's party because "they have the Olympics tonight". When it turns out to be a "b'g'rl p'rty", Cheerleader claims that "Coach just called to say the Olympics are dumb", and that "they'll be there like shareware".
- Flashforward — The maximum value is eventually labeled "The Olympics!".
- Email strong badathlon — A whole email about mock-up Olympics called the Strong Badathlon.
- 8-Bit Is Enough — Halfathlon, a game by Videlectrix featuring "Semi-Legendary Soviet Semi-Athlete Putchnya Shotski", is based on the Olympics.
