MATT: I love that "gross towel" immediately equals Coach Z.
MIKE: Coach Z and gross towels— in the last year or so, there's been a few references to towels, hasn't there?
Towels are regularly mentioned and used in the Homestar Runner universe. Typically they are seen being worn after bathing, rather than used as a cleaning implement.

- In Search of the Yello Dello — The showering alien's towel falls off.
- Main Page 14 — Homestar Runner appears, dressed in nothing but a towel.
- Where's The Cheat? — After tearfully "confessing" to killing Pom Pom in a prank call, Strong Bad (as Homestar) requests that Marzipan "bring some towels... and some garbage bags".
- Email suntan — Strong Bad sunbathes on a towel with a tiger on it.
- Halloween Fairstival — A drippy towel is among the horrifying objects in Coach Z's locker room.
- Email secret recipes — The Cheat wears a towel to hide the fact that he has been shaven.
- Email trading cards — Coach Z is shown wearing a towel on the "Showering Expert" card.
