Signing

Hey,4kai2lyn6. I just wanted to let you know that when you say something on a talk page, rather than typing your name afterwards you can just type ~~~~ and it automatically puts your name and the time/date. You can also customize it to be different fonts and colors. SaltyTalk! 22:51, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

**Wow! Cool! Thanks! Lemme try it right now...kai lyn 00:20, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

article

Hey 4kai2lyn6! It looks like you're making your article in the sandbox, and it's looking great! But you should probably just start a page for it. You can start a page by following a red link (a link to an article that does not exist) like this one: Printables. Then you get the chance to create the page. Feel free to move your article over to there. Happy wiki-ing! - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 02:21, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, what it means by starting in the Sandbox is by putting a link to a non-existent page in the Sandbox, then following the page and adding text and whatever the page is about. SaltyTalk! 02:55, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
OOOOOHHHHH! Thank you! Now I get it! So... I guess I'll get rid of that stuff in the sandbox now... Unless it's already been taken care of... Just one question though - is this page an orphan now, or is it okay? kai lyn 03:53, 3 December 2006 (UTC)
We'll find a place to link it, dun worry. =) --DorianGray
Thanks! kai lyn 04:01, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Okay...!

I'ma go 'head and try makin' that "Downloadables" section. I'll just use my talk page for now, and transfer it later. As always, feel free to improve it afterward, (well, obviously. That is what the Wiki is all about).

(Wow. People aroung here work pretty darn fast! Thanks everbody everybody!) 18:10, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

You're not a jerk

  • That didn't even cross my mind... anyways Merry Christmas, um, would you like to be on my "Cool People" list on my userpage. You're not a jerk at all. TheYellowDart(t/c)
  • There I just added you. --TheYellowDart(t/c)

Your Userpage

After your comment on my talk page I decided to check out your Wiki presence. I'd like to congratulate you for actually having a userpage at all, with content no less, given how many userpages are nonexistent or consist of something like "Why did they ban me?" If you want to easily spice things up, I highly recommend the Userboxes. They are easy to use and a handy way to communicate your basic info without having to get verbose. And it's color! - Point7Q 02:23, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Cool! Thanks! (And just to let you know, because I saw the discrepancy on the summary portion of your edit, I am a girl, and I'm just a year younger than you are, but I feel kinda weird saying this now, because I'm almost positive that, through all my comments and stuff, I've been coming across as a ten years old kid! Oh well, mea culpa!) kai lyn 14:38, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Name

What is your username from? I always thought it was just because your real name was Kaitlyn, but I think I'm way off.... SaltyTalk! 02:29, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Hi Salty!!! You were the one who first weclomed me to the Wiki! (As you can see for yourself!) Um, actually, you're dead on in assuming how I got my user name. But my name is spelt Katelyn, not Kaitlyn. For kai lyn, I just took out the -te- and replaced that with an -i- (I don't really know why; I just like the phonetics of it, I suppose... But I do pronounce my user name two different ways: either KAY lyn or CHI lyn, (chi as it's pronounced for the Greek symbol, so you don't pronounce the "ch" as in "The Cheat") FYI in case you care). I hate my name; it's so boring and every other girl plus their brother has it (remember spring cleaning? ya...) So I like to imagine that my real name is kai lyn, (notice that I don't capitalize the "k" - I don't know why this is important, but I do it consciously).
And, um, the numbers 4, 2, and 6 are significant to me for some reason. Mostly because of 42, the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything, and they both add up to 6, and 26 is my birth date, so there you have it... 426. (Also, all the numbers of my birth date — the year, month and date — when added as separate digits, come out to 42, which apparently means something when using Tarot cards... But don't ask me anything elso about Tarot cards 'cause I know nothing else about them... I was just playing along with a friend... Okay, I'll shut up now!) Thanks for bein' on my talk page again!!! See ya 'round the Wiki! kai lyn 14:56, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Reverting

Hey Kai Lyn — good work fixing up Strong Bad Email! I noticed you mention you could use some help in one of the edit summaries (although I see you fixed it yourself) — I thought I'd mention a surefire way to revert bad edits without missing anything. If you click on "history" and go to the last version of the page before the bad edit was made, then you can click "edit" at the top of the page and save that old version. That way you don't have to worry about any of the bad edit remaining/good information being lost. Hope that helps, and again, good work :) Trey56 18:50, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Oh thanks! *(Big, sheepish grin)* Just doin' what I can! (Sorry 'bout the many attempts; I panicked!) kai lyn 18:56, 17 December 2006 (UTC)

Ding!

Good prize on a lot of your recent editing! Keep on tranglin'! By the way, I left a comment to you in this thread. — It's dot com 00:00, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

tenses

Hey there Kai Lyn,

I wanted to let you know that everything that we write about has already happened, therefore we talk about things in the past tense. Although your sentences were gramatically correct as far as I saw, we don't write in the perfect tense whenever possible. I R F 17:44, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay! I won't make any more of those edits... But I wasn't writing in the perfect tense, I was writing in the present tense, the literary present tense to be exact. It's just that I was always taught to write in the lit. present when "reporting" (or whatever) on a book, a painting, any type of "art", as is the Homestar Runner website. Main reasons to use the lit. present are because art is timeless, blah blah blah... I found a website that does a better job explaining it than I do...[1]. Okay, thanks for the heads up though!! Sorry, and see ya 'round the wiki!! kai lyn 17:58, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Art may be timeless, but we generally consider the events of Free Country USA to be happening in real time, more like we are chronicling history rather than describing art. As I mentioned in my reply to you on my talk page, there's no problem with figuring out what our current practice is and either writing what it is on the project page or perhaps even altering it—as long as we talk about it first. What I'm trying to say is, don't give up on this right away if it's important to you. — It's dot com 18:08, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
Cool! Man, Dot Com, you should be an orator or something; you always seem to know just what to say, exactly how to say it, and plus, you made me feel really good about what I was starting to think was a bad idea! You're right though, I shouldn't go changing stuff without more of a general agreement. ...Darn... and now I have to go do the dishes... Dang, dang, dang... kai lyn 18:23, 9 January 2007 (UTC)

Expression

Hey, noticed your userpage edit. You do realize that in this world of the wiki, none of us have facial expressions, hand gestures or voice tones? Isn't that a beautiful thing, to be able to be understood through our choice of words and actions alone? Believe me, I find it a little liberating, and I don't have difficulties in these areas. Just some food for thought - online, we're all used to thinking "gee, so-and-so is high-and-mighty" or whatever, and then stepping back and realizing, "hey, I really can't tell that from the words".

That's one reason wikis all follow the basic rule that one should never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to ignorance. It's as likely, perhaps more likely, that someone is simply unaware how you perceived their words than actually intending to seem better than you or trying to put you down. Rest assured that, at least with the more "senior" users here, we definitely aspire to see all user's edits in that frame of mind.

Speaking of which, you are doing some great editing, and I for one am happy you're participating. Keep up the good work! Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:29, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Wow! That was wicked nice, (and very articulate)! Thanks Qermaq, especially for that "food for thought" bit — it really did jar a sort of epiphany with me; I was like duh! Everyone, not just me, goes through the same stuff! I 'spose I mostly just wanted to warn everyone that a tirade of "sorry"s would usually dispense from me like the plegg or somethin'... (not a very pleasant, or indeed, "makey-sense" type analogy, is it?) Okay, thanks again, and see ya 'round the wiki! kai lyn 16:58, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

how do you know?

i noticed that you edited the page on the other little girl. how did you come by that information you added? — 165.121.248.87 (Talk | contribs) 19:29, January 10, 2007 (left unsigned)

I'm sorry, but the only edit I've made to that page was this: [[2]], which didn't really encompass a whole lot of prior research on my part. Perhaps you're looking for someone else who had edited that page? kai lyn 16:45, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I think that you are referring to me. The way that I know is that I had the oppertunity to talk with Karen Wagner, who is TBC's sister. I R F 04:14, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Ah yes! I remember reading about that wicked cool correspondence on one of the talk pages, (can't remember which though). It's Dot Com or E. L. Cool or somebody was like "Oh sweet! You got to talk to a Chapman!" and I was like "Ya, that's way wicked cool!" (but I didn't type that in, cuz the discussion was an old one, or some other reason). Man, you're so lucky! kai lyn 21:57, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
I think you mean here from E.L. Cool and here from Trey56. I R F 22:38, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Yup. Thanks! kai lyn 22:41, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

Congrats

You are only the second recipient...ever. Congrats! You've earned it; keep it up.

Congratulations, you have been awarded The Grammar Guru award for your superior knowledge of grammar, and usage of that knowledge for the betterment of the wiki.

Keep up the good work!

Oh. man. Andrew Invisible Robot Fish, this is the best email I've ever received. Let's get to work! But seriously though, thankyouthankyouthankyou soooooooooo much!!! I'm so freakin' ecstatic right now, I'm pretty sure my face is gonna implode! kai lyn 21:57, 15 January 2007 (UTC)

About deletion

About the now-deleted Fat article: You're right, it should have been deleted a while ago. The only real rule concerning how long it takes for deletions of this sort is that it be long enough to establish consensus for deletion. Rarely will it take more than a week for this (although this does happen from time to time). In this case, it looks like the sysops simply forgot this article and hadn't been checking the Deletion category. Heimstern Läufer 17:36, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, cool. Thanks for the info! Definitely good to know! kai lyn 17:39, 17 January 2007 (UTC)
You mean like here? I R F 17:16, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Now there's an example where there's no consensus yet. So yeah, that's a case where it stays open for longer. Heimstern Läufer 17:34, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

LOTR

I noticed that you said ...LOTR is an obsession of mine... I'll deviate from H*R for just a brief moment. My wife is also a Tolkien nut. She has read the Hobbit, The Semorilian, LOTR, has all three DVD sets and has watched every last commentary, has made herself a cloak and went as an elf for halloween, made up stories about obscure Tolkein characters, has an evlish name...etc. Ok, now hback to H*R for me. I R F 23:30, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

YAY! I love your wife! I could talk about LOTR and Tolkien for EVA! But I could also talk about H*R for just as long, so I too shall get back to editin'! kai lyn 23:33, 19 January 2007 (UTC)
Come onto IRC! Talk Tolkien with me! I love talking random Tolkien! A friend and I like to play Tolkien trivia where we go back and forth asking each other questions and we see who can stump the other most often. I'm pretty cruel, since I have the Tale of Years practically memorized, and I keep asking questions like "In what year of the Third Age..." :-) Heimstern Läufer 02:06, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
AAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Oh no! I'm wicked sorry, but I can't go into IRC!!! AAAAHHHHH! That bites! I'm so mad right now!!!!! Aw maaaaannnnn...
Nevertheless, I'm SOOOO ecstatic that you too WUV LOTR!!! You and your friend sound wicked knowledgeable about the land of Arda! Actually, I wouldn't be much fun on an IRC concerning Tolkien trivia anyway, because, to tell you the truth, I'm still a novice concerning various facts about his wonderful mythos, (which I'm happy to know is actually an account of our own world from long ago — not that I'm telling you or anything, I just think that fact is amazing)!
Sorry to disappoint, in that I can't access IRC and that I'm not as scholarly concerning Middle-earth trivia as I would have myself be, (yet)... Also, sorry I took so long getting back to you; I've been out job hunting and graveyard exploring... Take that to mean whatever you want it to.... : ) (hey look, an emoticon! My first ever! I should use them more often...) kai lyn 23:39, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
I have a challenge for you on my page. It's about LOTR, but you'll never get it! Bwa ha ha!-LordQuackingstick 23:41, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, at the momment, I'm procrastinating in relation to my homework on the Bad Graphics Ghost page. Don't worry; I'll look for it! But right now is H*R thyme! kai lyn 01:41, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

...a Ballantine books edition of The Hobbit, published by arrangement with the Hoofton Mifflin Houghton Mifflin Company. The revised edition I quote from was first printed in 1982. The specific quote comes from a note explaining that the riddle game was chronicled in the book as Bilbo eventually revealed it happened in the Red Book. Blah blah blah.-LordQuackingstick 02:18, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Cool! Ya, I don't own that edition, but I do believe I've read it once like years ago, 'cause that quote was so familiar. I'll have to check it out sometime! Thanks for the info man — that was drivin' me nuts! Okay, back to... other... things... : ) kai lyn 16:57, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

Just wanted to say Wow.

Yea that about covers it. No seriously, I'm so impressed by the work you've done since you got here. I wish I had (would make) the time to put the effort in that you do with gnome work. Wow. - ISTC 02:07, 24 January 2007 (UTC) (now you can correct all the grammar errors in that post)

Second'd. Heimstern Läufer 02:08, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Aw shucks! Thanks a bunch, juys! I's gots a lotta thyme on me hands! (Dun worry 'bout your grammar, ISTC; colloquial type talk pages shouldn't hafta count! I mean, look at me! Holy crap, that's a lotta mess!) On another note, I've gotta stop tryin' ta fit in as many trite H*R jokes as possible into all my posts!!! kai lyn 02:15, 24 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, hi guys! Ya Loafing, I'm one o those! And The Joe, man, remember "Printables"? That was some fun times! Thanks again! (Yay for parties! My parents are gona kill me! Yay parents! *what?*) And Shwoo, you're here too?! Sa-Wheat! By the way, I meant to tell you this before, but you're fanfic: NOTHING "sucky" 'bout it! Trust me! Absolutely loved it! Have you finished any more? kai lyn 02:43, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Ah, yes, you have! (Don't know why I asked if I could check it out myself.... *idiot*!) Cool, I'll check it out tomorrow! kai lyn 02:47, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. The third part should be up tommorow night, if I can revise it enough that I'm happy with it by then. Shwoo 02:55, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
This's just my opinion, but I think you'd make a good sysop.-LordQuackingstick 03:03, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh, thank you LordQuackingstick! (I actually went to bed before I got a chance to see you post this...!) But, I can think of like a jillion reasons why I wouldn't.... Um, my completely, PATHETICALLY meager amount of technology savvy, um, "ness".... (This's also one reason as to why I'm hesitant to welcome anyone; the new user could wind up thinking I actually know what I'm doing around here! Boy, would he be mistaken!) I'm also um, afraid of responsibility.... Plus, I haven't really been here that long. I think this's my, like, 3rd month or something... I've never even done anything big, like a transcript or anything. All "m" type edits for me. But I do appreciate the thought! Thanks again!
Just read ch 2 Shwoo! "What's... catching?" Holy crap, but that's funny! Like, you know when people will type in "lol", but they probably don't mean it? Well, I'm gonna type out the whole thing, cuz I do mean it... Laughing. Out. Loud.!!! Holy crap! (And I really shouldn't have laughed out loud this much; right now, I'm in a library... with, like, people in it...) Oh well! kai lyn 16:27, 24 January 2007 (UTC)
I wrote something that was laugh out loud funny? That's the best news I've heard all day! It's only midday, but that's not the point. You know, it's not impossible to become a sysop after being here for three months. Loafing did it. Shwoo 01:27, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, in any event, you'd probably-obably (name that quote!) be a better sysop than me.-LordQuackingstick 02:03, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Just one more edit for me here, then onto the main stuffs! (Ewww... I haven't been on in days, (attack of the teachers who assign WAY too many research papers)! That's NO GOOD! ... Hey, they've updated!)

Hey Shwoo; yup, you did, (I don't wanna explain the joke, especially to you, but it's like, HE DOESN"T HAVE ARMS!!! Why should he know what "catching" is?! That's great stuff!) Combolations! And by the way, I love the song you chose for Tristan/ S Squared: Pink Floyd rocks out loud (which sounds really nerdy and not at all appropriate for any respectable Floyd fan to say, but oh well)!

Hey there my good Quack: don't despair! If you keep working really hard towards the betterment of the wiki and prove your leadership, ness, you'll totally get sysop'd, (that is to say, in time; keep in mind however, it's not like there are elections every 6 months. New sysops are chosen only when needed). But don't be too hasty for a title just for the recognition: first, you gotta earn it. (Which I have no doubt at all as to whether or not you can do it. Just summon up some patience and hard work, and ye shall prevail my son.) I realize that you've probably already had ta read these types of replies, but they're wicked true. If you do make sysop one day, you'll know that it's because you really deserve it! On the flip side of your comment, I really don't think I'd make a good sysop at all. I've no drive for leadership, (which makes me sound like a dead-beat, but once again: oh well!); whereas you have some direction, which really is a great thing to posses. Some (but certainly not all) positive stuff 'bout your edits: I notice that you're really great about keepin' on the recent changes; you add in helpful links and good rewords to further new entries/paragraphs, etc., and if you ever have to revert edits, you give insightful reasons as to why you've done so, so as to help out the other users for their next edit. Good jorb, and keep on tranglin', (I completely mean this, man)! Just remember, patience.

(Also, I believe the quote is said by the goose from Charlotte's Web. That's a great book! I think I'm gonna read it to my little brother after he's done with the A Series of Unfortunate Events books.) TTFN! kai lyn 16:12, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Dag, yo

kai lyn, I noticed here that you'll be taking a wikibreak — hope that whatever you'll be doing goes well and that it won't be too long before you'll be able to return :) You're a great contributor! Trey56 01:52, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

Hi Trey! Thanks a lot for the compliment and right back at'cha! I think I'll be able to drop in now and then, but I still have some stuffs to take care of. See ya 'round the wiki! CanNOT wait to get back! kai lyn 23:15, 10 February 2007 (UTC)
