Leaving
Are you okay Sam? --TheYellowDart—(t/c) 19:58, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Nobody is mad at you. Hey, we all have a past. Heck, look at mine. I got blocked before. But that's behind me now. It's alright. --TheYellowDart—(t/c) 20:04, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Don't leave! Mr. 567 20:02, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
Sam, I don't know why you are leaving but you shouldn't go. If you could not help, just keep trying. If you did something bad, it's ok. We don't want you to leave. You welcomed me to the wiki. If you want to leave it's ok. We'll miss you.--ONESTOP 20:20, 16 December 2007 (UTC)
- Sam, I'm sorry to hear that you've chosen to leave. I think you've done a lot of good work on our articles during the time you spent here. I understand that you've chosen to leave because of a recent conflict regarding a post on a new user's talk page. Please don't feel bad about that; I think you have a lot of potential, and I've seen quite a bit of improvement in the quality of your talk page posts during your time on the wiki.
- I understand your decision to leave, and if you're feeling strained by things in real life (your parents, etc.), as you mentioned, then taking a break might be a good thing. I just want to let you know that you're welcome to return at any time, and I'm free to discuss anything you want about the reason you left.
- Take care,

- Well, I wonder how many times you'll say you are leaving this wiki! But, you misspelled "however" on your userpage, you're gonna have to be blocked for that :P Have a good rest of the year. See you when you get back,

Incase you don't want to leave, I saved a copy of your page when it was your birthday. I went into the history then edit and copied everything. We are going to miss you.--ONESTOP 20:29, 16 December 2007 (UTC) : (
Subpages for deletion
Hey Sam. I noticed you left three pages marked for deletion when you decided to take a break. Did you really mean for those to be deleted, or did you just forget to untag them? If you'd still like them deleted, just say so here, otherwise just untag them. Thanks! — It's dot com 00:32, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
- Opps. That's just me in anger. Save them. I'm off to Burmuda now! (Not really. Enjoying my wikibreak).

- Okay. Don't forget that you need to take the deletion tags off in that case. — It's dot com 01:24, 21 December 2007 (UTC)
Concerning Justin
Hi, Sam, there are still some things we need to work on when dealing with newer users. Here you are improving in writing your messages, but you still need to polish it up. For example, "you making way to many subpages" has two problems: first, it needs to be "you are making way too many". (There are also other parts that need proofreading that I won't discuss.) Second, the problem isn't really that he's making too many subpages; it's that the subpages do not comply with our policy. It would have been best to link to our policy, like this.
Also, when Justin became disruptive (and yes, he was disruptive, you are right about that), you began to use some alarmed-sounding language, like the edit summaries here and here. This is a bad idea because it tends to make the situation worse: it does the opposite of calming the person down. It also was a bad idea to edit war with OptimisticFool over his userpage. If you disagree with someone else about what's acceptable on a userpage, ask a sysop to intervene.
I say this not to be overly critical, but because we do still need to present a professional, tactful and calm voice to our new users, even if they're disruptive. Therefore, please read the messages you write to users carefully and make sure they're clear and grammatically correct. And if they become disruptive, be calm in return (if you have a hard time with this, consider just waiting it out until someone else deals with the situation). Keep these in mind, and you should be on the road to doing better. Deal? Deal. OK, keep on tranglin'! Heimstern Läufer 03:01, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
- Also very important: if you suspect that a user is a sock, please do not ever post that suspicion on the user's talk page. If turns out that you're wrong and it's just a new user, one of the first things that new user will see is that accusation. Instead, ask a sysop to deal with it. My talk page is always open for this. Thanks. Heimstern Läufer

Last warning?
I'm kind of curious how you're going to back up the "last warning" you gave Justin. Last I checked you don't have access to the block feature. In other words, leave messages if you have to, but leave "last" warnings to the sysops. — It's dot com 23:09, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Reply to your deleted comments
I'm sorry, Sam, we know you are trying to helpful. But unfortunately, you aren't succeeding. You say you're not trying to start fights, and I believe you. Nonetheless, fights do start when you talk to new users often enough that we have no choice but to restrict you on this. We've tried to give you advice several times, but it doesn't seem to be sinking in.
I know you are trying to be helpful, and I would encourage you to be helpful in some other way, as It's dot com has said above. You could also take advantage of his offer of help on IRC (I can probably help out with this, too, if you'd like.)
We don't want to discourage you from contributing, but we can't have the disruption that results from your interaction with new users any longer, even if it's not intentional. I'm sorry. Heimstern Läufer 20:45, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sam, I really don't understand what you are doing, recently. You have been asked several times not to do this anymore. Can it really be so hard to stay away from edits of this kind and simply contribute to the wiki? Also, that edit summary was way out of order after what It's dot com and Heimstern asked you. As Heimstern said, this behaviour is disruptive to the wiki, and you're not helping anybody. Please stop it right now. In addition to this, threatening to vandalize is not acceptable, and you know it. Maybe it really is a good idea for you to take a break and cool down a little. When you come back, please have another read of our comments on your talk page, and check out your old edits. Maybe with a clear head, you'll see what went wrong. See you then, Loafing

Test notices
Just for the future, there is a template you can use when giving someone a test notice, Template:Test. This will make it a bit easer since you won't have to type that stuff up all by yourself. Homestar-Winner (talk) 23:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
- Here's the link to the wiki's carefully worded template: {{test}}. It has simple instructions for use (don't forget to use
subst:
) and I've used it myself several times. Enjoy! --Stux 00:39, 30 January 2008 (UTC)- I know. I was in a rush to my school bus and I had to make one really quickly. But, I knew that template existed.

- OK. Now that I think about it, I probably have seen you use it before. Over and out, Homestar-Winner (talk) 00:44, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Well for important notices like these it's always good to err on the side of caution. See ya later. --Stux 00:45, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- If you're in a rush, then don't put up notices on users' talk pages. Simple as that. What's the harm in letting another user do that? It's certainly better than leaving messages that are not up to standard - especially when you know that you're not doing it properly. You have been asked before not to police other users for a while, and my advice for you is to always make sure you're doing it absolutely correct when you're about to post something on a talk page. If you're unsure whether you follow our policies and guidelines, don't post. If you know you're not doing it properly, don't post. There's always next time. And it's a wiki, so don't stress, someone else will do the job if you don't. Loafing

Policing
Sam, please remember that you aren't supposed to be policing the wiki. Something like this counts as policing. If you see something like this that needs attention, let a sysop know rather than handling it yourself. Thanks. Heimstern Läufer 21:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Talk Page Posts
See HRWiki:Talk page etiquette#General - while it's not best practice, one is well in their rights to remove posts from their talk page. The only possible exception to this would be an official message on behalf of admins, and even there it's a grey area. Reverting that with impunity would just result in a quickening of the eventual consequence (likely a ban) anyway. As much as I agree with your post and the sentiment behind it, and as much as I agree that he should let it stand, he's entitled to not have it there if he chooses. - Qermaq - (T/C) 16:00, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- Sam, you're once again policing the wiki by trying to make Coach B keep that message on his page. And once again, your policing proved disruptive. Please stop. Heimstern Läufer

sorry, and thank you
i realized there was probably not enough of them to have a page, but i wanted to do SOMETHING for hrwiki.org. and for you to be able to find my paghe while i'm still working! amazing!!! so thank you for helping me realize that it wasn't a good idea and for being the first person on my talk page. yes, i'm that new. 12/24/07 as stated in my user page. but i'll keep trying to do something other than fix a gramatical error. i realize also that i probably won't be able to get to alot of pages/ideals before anyone else. to be honest, i thought there already was a page on the stuffed animals. i've seen your name all over the wiki, and i told you, i haven't been a member for long, but i've known about the site for about a year.
thanks, and again sorry about the page, Homsarstrongbad150

Careless reverting
Sam the Man: This is ridiculous. (I am also leaving the same message to SamFisher1022 and DeFender1031.) As established editors I believe you handled poorly the welcoming of this user. Instead of providing a more welcoming and inviting message, you have a quick edit war of sorts in someone else's user talk page. Imagine how a new user would feel seeing this kind of mysterious edit summary arguments going on. This sort of behavior could easily turn away prospective editors (good or not so much). I think in general we've established a bad habit of quick reverts with a simple edit summary and no explanation. Friendly but informative notices to less established users should be the norm, not the exception. --Stux 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
