HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 21 (May 19-25)

A Food or Drinks Running Gag. How about General Tso's Chicken, Fluffy Puff, SBLOUNSKCHED! Bar, or Homestar Jr.? User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 23:21, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

Not exactly running gags, but meh. Fluffy Puffs have been around forever and are clearly important in the H*R universe. I think they'd make a good feature (though the article might need a little improvement). Heimstern Läufer 23:45, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Besides, we already did a foods week not that long ago... Fluffy Puff Marshmallows would be a worthy possibility for a week long feature (and it was suggested as a possibility in the earlier discussion). wbwolf (t | ed) 00:35, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
How about a clothing running gag? Like Bowler Hats? MHarrington 01:28, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, we already have three people interested in featuring Fluffy Puffs. Can you contribute a bit to the discussion by explaining why you think we ought to look at Bowler Hats instead? Remember, this is a discussion, not a vote, and just throwing out ideas without responding to previous suggestions doesn't really help. Heimstern Läufer 04:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I'm sorry, I thought the Fluffy Puff ones was on a different week. Sorry, my mistake. Sure, we can do Fluffy Puff. MHarrington 05:31, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 22 (May 26-Jun 1)

Heading into summer - how about a week of featuring emails which introduced important songs and musical motifs? I'm thinking guitar, techno, death metal, different town, concert, candy product, and end it with rock opera. Order might be better switched up a little. Believe it or not, none have been featured, and all are of importance to TBC's musical ouevre. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:31, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

I'm really tired of these suggestions for running daily FAs. Most of the time, the suggested daily articles usually important enough to be featured for the entire week or too short to be noted at all. The emails noted here are a good example of this problem. guitar or techno, for example, are very important emails, and should get a week by themselves. In fact, any of the suggested emails should get an entire week. Personally, I'd start with techno for this week, and leave the rest for a later time. wbwolf (t | ed) 03:14, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, your position is definitely noted. I don't think we do dailies all that often. When we do, it's due to a strong theme and a series of strong contributors to that theme. I would agree that the two emails you cite, along with several of the others, could get a week to themselves. The fact that they all reside on the nomination list and have never been featured is conspicuous. And this also delves into why we feature articles in the first place - is it to give every article its due, or to give the visitor their due? I think a week of dailies compels the visitor to return, to maybe get active. I think they are good things for the wiki. I can see how others might argue to the contrary, and that's cool. I kinda think this idea is a strong one. Just my opinion. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:36, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
How about Summer Short Shorts? MHarrington 03:07, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
I think that would be more appropriate to feature when it's actually summer rather than the end of May. Heimstern Läufer 04:41, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
How about Sweet Cuppin' Cakes? Or maybe a character in it like Eh! Steve! (my idea was previously rejected above.) Homestar-Winner (talk) 12:10, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Okay, I'm game for that. MHarrington 16:15, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, Sweet Cuppin' Cakes is an excellent idea I will support. But please remember my themed musical week when enough time has passed for such a daily week to be appropriate, if you would. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:08, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
I certainly will. Let's let it go for a while and then see. MHarrington 04:52, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Sweet Cuppin' Cakes is a fine idea; let's go with that. Trey56 18:38, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

HRWiki:Featured article for 2008, week 23 (Jun 2-8)

How about doing a short? Like an OLD short, such as... Strong Bad Sings? MHarrington 06:23, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

I'd go with that. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 21:52, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Do you think there's enough content there for a decent writeup? It's a pretty short toon with no real plot, so I'm not so sure. Maybe someone would like to take a stab at it in their userspace and see if we can get a writeup? Heimstern Läufer 23:23, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Well then, how about Kick the Can? MHarrington 02:19, 14 April 2008 (UTC)
You know, let's just get Sweet Cuppin Cakes out of the way, huh? MHarrington 05:28, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I thought we were doing that in week 22...? Heimstern Läufer 05:33, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, what of the music-themed email week that Sam the Man suggested? Of course, I'm fine with doing that one this week if we're going to be doing Sweet Cuppin Cakes the week before. MHarrington 21:16, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I thought it was quite clear that discussion had moved away from the musical email week for week 22 in toward Sweet Cuppin' Cakes. Heimstern Läufer 21:21, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I didn't suggest the music week, that was Qermaq. Kick The Can could work. User talk:Sam the Man Sam the Man 23:18, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
Oh, sorry, I thought it was Sam the Man. MHarrington 06:33, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Whichever week gets Strong bads cool game should feature that article. It'll probably be this week so i propose it! Physicsguymonsterman 19:06, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

As stated elsewhere SBCG4AP is far too new to be a featured article yet. I doubt it will even be considered for featuring until all 5 1st season episodes are out, at least. Earliest practically would be 2009. Though I will admit that the article is shaping up to be fine FA material... just not right now. wbwolf (t | ed) 04:37, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
Well, now that Sweet Cuppin Cakes has been selected for Week 22, let's try to do Qermaq's proposal for the music-themed email week, huh? We haven't done a seven-day article week for a while. I don't mind waiting a while for doing Kick the Can. MHarrington 16:06, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I am strongly opposed to doing any more seven day FAs. I will support doing Kick The Can for this week, or maybe one of the music emails, like techno or guitar. wbwolf (t | ed) 22:36, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Wbwolf, we have a rather long tradition of doing daily FAs on occasion, and I don't think that's going to stop because you oppose it. I'd be in support of a music week eventually, though I would guess not this week. Heimstern Läufer 23:12, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
I don't expect to stop, but I do wish that the proposal for dailies wasn't seeming once a month (or less). That is mainly why I oppose doing it, so hopefully they become less frequently proposed and better conceived. My other concern in this case of music week is that some of the emails that were proposed to be part of it really do deserve to have a full week (techno especially off the top of my head), rather than just one day. Show me a week list of mid-level music related emails, and I will support it. wbwolf (t | ed) 23:43, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
Here's the list, though it doesn't have to be in any particular order: guitar, techno, death metal, different town, concert, candy product and rock opera. We could probably replace techno with marzipan, though, if we had to. MHarrington 18:25, 26 May 2008 (UTC)

I've gone ahead and made the writeup for Kick the Can, the article that seemed to have the highest level of support.

I think the idea of the music week should be pursued eventually (though I agree with Wbwolf that techno probably deserves its own week, and possibly concert as well). caper is another musical email that might work in a set of dailies.

If I may make a little comment about this week's discussion: I think it illustrates something we need to do better: discussing featured articles and paying attention to what others suggest rather than just throwing out ideas. Because we sometimes just sort of threw out ideas, the discussion became really convoluted, and it was hard for me to determine consensus. Just my two cents.
