[edit] The Tale of Six Flags

The sign in the locka-room that reads "Don't go into the marsh!!!!" refers to a similar sign in the Monster Plantation ride at Six Flags Over Georgia.

Arguments for:

  • It is within Georgia.
  • It's not a coincidence; "Don't go into the marsh" isn't a normal phrase.

Arguments against:

  • A likely coincidence.
  • This is similar to signs, such as ones that say "Caution: Thin Ice." TBC probably didn't mean any references by it.
  • Even if this is true, I'm don't think we whould post it unless we can find a 6 flags picture online that we can link to. Otherwise, it doesn't seem very notable to someone who lives far away from Georgia...

Additional comments:

  • A search of forum posts that were made at the time this toon was released show that many people thought along the same lines as this item. Not that that's proof per se, but at least this isn't coming from left field.
  • Additional info needed. How "similar" was the sign? When was it up? (I.e. how close in time to Fairstival?)
  • Can we have a picture of both signs?
  • Either way, I say that it's doubtful it's a coincidence, because TBC are FROM Georgia and have probably been to SFOG a few times.
    • Not a logically sound defense; they've doubtless seen Jaws too, but that doesn't mean it's a reference to "don't go into the water." Even if they've been on the ride, there will need to be more explanation and evidence to prove a connection.
      • Apples and oranges, because I doubt that they would have picked "Don't go into the marsh" on their own.

[edit] Wine, Women, and STUFF

"Wine, Women and Song" is the name of a waltz by Johann Strauss II.

Arguments for:

Arguments against:

  • He didn't name it "Wine Women and Song" but rather Wein, Weib und Gesang
  • According to the above link, the title "was drawn from an old adage." See revision below.

Additional comments:

  • Isn't this more of an old-timey-type phrase? I've heard my grandpa use it.
  • Max Bialystock (Zero Mostel) uses the phrase in The Producers, as does Wolf J. Flywheel (Groucho Marx) in The Big Store.
    • Please read the link above in "arguments against" before commenting. Strauss predates The Producers, Groucho Marx, and, it is to be hoped, your grandpa, and this phrase predates him.
      • Meh, you can read that article if you want, but its most relevant point is incorporated into the revision below.
  • According to the Wikipedia article about this phrase: It seems to suggest that it's just a phrase, most likely predating the Strauss Waltz.
    • We should note the phrase and its general usage in the article.
      • See revison below.

Proposed revision:

The phrase wine, women, and song is from an old adage, "Who loves not wine, women, and song / remains a fool his whole life long."

Arguments for:

  • Cuts through all the TTATOT and gets to the real origin of the phrase, which itself is rather interesting.

Arguments against:
