[edit] Hey hey, doo-doot doo

Strong Bad's mouth doesn't move when he says "Doo doo doo."

From: homsar
Posted on: 23:41, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

Arguments for:

  1. Strong Bad usually moves his mouth on everything he says.
  2. He's holding his mouth in a neutral position as he sings those syllables.

Arguments against:

  1. So what? This is not a really interesting fact, plus the variety of mouth positions I can create while still saying "Doo doo doo" makes this rather suspect in terms of its gravity.

Additional comments:

  • Re: arg against 1: We don't leave out facts because they aren't interesting.
    • I'm assuming you mean goofs, because that's certainly not true generally.
    • The point of arg 1 against is that you can go "doo doo" without your mouth making a round shape. If I can do it, and you can do it, why can't Strong Bad do it? And if he can, why is this notable?
      • You sure? I can't. Mouth shape determines vowel sounds. My attempts at "doo doo" without making my mouth round come across as "duh deuh".
        • Quite sure. Pull your tongue down and lift the soft palate. Ventriloquists do this all the time. It's baldfaced speculation, but it's not too much of a stretch to imagine Strong Bad would have learned something nerdy like that. And once you know how, you do it all the time.
          • So now Strong Bad has trained himself to be a ventriloquist... news to me. I mean, the guy can't read emails without his head bobbing all over the place!
            • Re two comments up: because it's speculation, you really can't use that as an argument for the validity of the fact. (I know it's a comment, but still.)
  • I'm voting to accept, but I really think this is more of a remark than a goof. This was one of the earliest emails, and TBC kept their animation very simple at this point. So, I personally don't think it's an accident per se, just simplified animation...
    • Fact or goof, it's notable regardless of whether or not Strong Bad would ever know the ventriloquist trick. I personally believe it was an accident on TBC's part- every single "o" sound he makes, his mouth is round. This time? Not so much.

[edit] Homsar Winner?

The idea of Homsar may not have just originated from bad spelling. There is a noticeable resemblance between Homsar and Homeschool Winner. Homsar may or may not have evolved from this character.

From: Homsar

Arguments for:

  • The Sketchbook sketch is not proof that Homsar's look wasn't partially based on Homeschool Winner. Those sketches were clearly abandoned, so they might have gone with a HSW-inspired design instead.
  • Same color scheme, both are Homestar-like characters, both were named after attempts to say "Homestar"; they seem selfsame.

Arguments against:

  • The idea of Homsar evolving from Homeschool Winner isn't true, we have seen early sketches of Homsar in the Sketchbook.
  • The resemblence is debatable, and "may or may not" entries aren't strong enough to be Fun Facts.
  • This is just speculation.
  • Homeschool Winner is just one of many Homestar characters to have been dropped over time. Homsar, on the other hand, was a one-shot gag used for a Strong Bad Email (and they even made it seem as if he had been killed off), but then they ended up bringing him back and making him a main character. I don't think the two had anything to do with each other.

Additional comments:

  • Homsar may be the reason TBC isn't bringing back Homeschool, but I don't think Homsar "came" from Homeschool.
