The Homestar Runner Mysfit-steries is a cartoon written by Youdbetterbelieveit Chimendez, featuring starring Homestar Runner and friends reimagined in the style of 1970s mystery-solving teens (a la Scooby Doo) and playing in a band of the same name. In addition to solving mysteries, the gang commonly debates whether "mysterious" even exists at all; Strong Bad and Strong Mad also frequently attempt to emancipate Homestar from his ridiculous stripèd pants.

[edit] Origin

The Mysfit-steries originated in the Strong Bad Email high school. Asked about what he was like during high school, Strong Bad offers "a guess" that the characters were a team of super sleuths. The email shows scenes from their cartoon adventures, building to increasingly absurd imaginings of their younger lives.

In addition to Strong Bad's admission that his memory is "extremely unphotographic", it is later indicated that The Homestar Runner Mysfit-steries is not meant to be an accurate history of the mainline universe: senior prom shows the characters appearing as their normal selves at their "high school senior prom", and the Podstar Runner synopsis describes Strong Bad's recollections as made up and "not true".

The primary cast is roughly analogous to the Scooby-Doo cast:

[edit] Band

At Homestar's insistence, the group plays in a band "just to be safe". In this band, Homestar plays the guitar and sings (without his usual speech impediment), Marzipan plays the tambourine, Strong Bad plays the keyboard, and Strong Mad plays the drums. The conceit of cartoon teenagers playing in a band spoofs The Archies.

Two of their songs have been heard: "Havin' Fun With My Friends" and "Kooky Moonlight", the latter of which featured the Stave It Off Guy as a guest guitarist and was released as a single on music streaming platforms.

Notably, Homestar plays his guitar left handed, Strong Bad can play keyboard with his gloves, and Marzipan can play a trumpet and a tambourine at the same time.
