The word mess is frequently used to describe things that you wouldn't quite expect.

- Email the show — Marshie tells the viewer, "You'd best be eating a whole mess of Fluffy Puff Marshmallows!"
- Email stupid stuff — After The Cheat attempts to serve Strong Bad some The Cheatcakes, Strong Bad tells him "Get that mess outta here!"
- Peasant's Quest Preview — In the Easter egg, Videlectrix 1 complains "I come to work and I have to look at this mess!"
- Peasant's Quest — If you attempt to give the Baby Lady an item, she'll reply "We don't need that mess."
- Labor Dabor — While Frank Bennedetto is popping popcorn, Homestar Runner tells him to "keep that mess down".
