Spinal Tap
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Spinal Tap is a fictional heavy metal band from the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap. The movie focuses on the troubles the band faces on tour, featuring comedic (largely improvised) dialogue and parody music framed as a "rockumentary". The Brothers Chaps have made many references to the movie in their cartoons.
[edit] Appearances
- Fortune Cookies — One fortune reads "Have a good time, all the time". Keyboardist Viv Savage provided this quote when asked for a philosophy he lived by.
- The House That Gave Sucky Treats — The first name on Strong Bad's "People to egg" list (revealed by giving him the marshmallow bunny) is Ronnie Pudding, former bassist for the group when they were known as The Thamesmen.
- Arcade Game — The page title, "Quite Exciting this Computer Magic!" is a quote from the movie, said by Savage when playing a video game.
- This line is quoted again in The Limozeen Advantage.
- Email death metal (DVD commentary) — Strong Bad compares the drummer of Brainkrieg to Spinal Tap drummer Joe "Mama" Besser, and Mike references how Besser met an untimely end in the movie.
- Email origins (DVD commentary) — Mike and Homestar Runner lift dialogue from the film, from when the band members are harmonizing to "Heartbreak Hotel", while discussing Homestar's bread songs.
- Weclome Back — Homestar sleeps in a green ribcage shirt, as worn by lead guitarist Nigel Tufnel.
- Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 17.2 — Litigation Jackson prefaces his catchphrase ("the system really works, jerks!") with "so say all of us". This same phrasing was used by the president of Spinal Tap's record company as he promoted their Tap Into America tour: "...and so say all of us: 'Tap into America!'"
- Mr. Poofers Must Die — Homsar's Halloween costume is lead singer David St. Hubbins.
