[edit] Authentic TBC

Question: Why? I mean, are TBC doing work for macromedia now? Is this offical? -James

This is almost certainly official (or else someone can do absolutely perfect Strong Bad and Homestar impersinations). As for why, it may have been commissioned by Macromedia. Or the designers of the program asked TBC really nicely. Who knows? There's a thread on the message board about it here --TheNintenGenius 11:07, 30 Sep 2004 (MST)

It deffinetly is TBC's work. they put a Quote of the Week from it.--That crazy DumDe!

Someone deleted the Remarks thing about it being considered legit, now that it's in QOTW. Of course we would question it. I mean, it was an EXTREMELY HARD-TO-FIND Easter egg in a program that has no other connection to H*R. It seems fine, but someone could ALWAYS be using acute sound samples. Marshmallow Roast

No, I deleted "The line 'Naw, it ain't heaven. There aren't enough Twinkies.' is now a Quote of the Week", which is dumb. Of course this is legit Homestar Runner material! TBC made the darn thing! —FireBird|Talk 01:20, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
The article mentions that "this is now considered official hr.com material". It comes a bit out of left field. Can you also explain why someone might think it's not official material?
The Bros Chaps make stuff in Flash, and Macromedia used Homestar in their Flash 8 conference, so it has a purpose to be in Flash. Also, the password for it is sbemail, so more evidence leading to "Made by Brothers Chap". Annoy Miss, Decemberween 2005
Agreeing with anony here. If that wasn't TBC's work, whose was it? Considering it's the authentic animation style, authentic voices, authentic style, etc... :) Just because it doesn't appear on the actual H*R site doesn't mean it's not authentic H*R material. — Image:kskunk_fstandby.gif KieferSkunk (talk) — 20:32, 29 December 2005 (UTC)
It also appears on the Everything Else, Volume 1 DVD as an easter egg. Heimstern Läufer 20:39, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Capitalization

Can we agree on whether the "Are" is capitalized or not now, already? It's been moved twice here, from Are to are and from are to Are. We need consensus! --TheNintenGenius 15:18, 2 Oct 2004 (MST)

I believe it's standard in American English to decapitalize forms of the word "(to) be" in titles. Of course, if we don't want to get in debates over this kind of stuff, we could use full title case: "Where The Crap Are We?". Problem solved. - [[User:furrykef|furrykef (Talk at me)]] 01:05, 25 Nov 2004 (MST)

You're right; "Are" should be capitalized. --67.161.224.65

This may be an old discussion, but I still think otherwise. When watching the toon, the page title is "Where the Crap are We?" Therefore, the "are" should not be capitallized.
This may be an extremely old thread, but "Are" is properly capitalized. Verbs should be capitalized in a title, no matter the verb or the length of the word (even one as short as "Is"). — It's dot com 00:23, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Contested Fun Fact

  • Homestar mentions at the end of the toon that he thinks they're in Massachusetts. Also, in the Easter Egg, he appears to be talking to a "Senator Pencilface". Senator John Kerry is from Massachusetts, and he is sometimes mocked with the name "Pencil-face". Many contest this, saying that The Brothers Chaps wouldn't create a political cartoon, because it simply isn't their style. However, the inferences are just too obvious, and they are right there in the open.
I've decided to add 'Ivan's contested fun fact to the talk page here. I still think it's too shaky to be added, because while there's nothing saying it ISN'T a political reference, there's also nothing saying that it IS. And I've still never heard Kerry called "pencil face." --TheNintenGenius 15:18, 17 Oct 2004 (MST)
I agree, and I would have also removed it. -- Tom 16:59, 17 Oct 2004 (MST)

I thought that TBC were implying that Massetachussetts Hell. I thought that this meant that, like most Southerners, TBC don't like yankees. For those of you who are slow on the uptake, by "yankees", I mean people from the North, not the baseball team. 68.215.185.76 10:12, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

Methinks that most Southerners are quite over and done with any hard feelings about events that transpired 139 years ago and counting. And if they aren't...well...get over it. And if they want slavery back...get over it. Or get out. I'm a historian specializing in the Civil War, and I'm well aware that two Atlanta boys don't give a whit about Yankee vs Dixie feelings. Those in nowheresville, Georgia might. My point is, Southern cities are very much like Northern ones today. TBC are two very intelligent men and wouldn't stoop to whoremongering about petty crap like this. Homestar could just as easily have said Virginia. --Southpaw018 10:50, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

Shut up. There are other reasons that Southerners have for hating the North, which I choose not to state for risk of it being considered flaming. 68.215.185.76 11:51, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

I wouldn't consider it flaming. What else do southerners got against us? I'm curious. -Miss Free Country USA 3:35 Nov 30 2004

As if telling someone to shut up isn't rude enough as-is. --TheNintenGenius 12:27, 21 Nov 2004 (MST)

I agree w/ TheNintenGenius. It ain't polite to tell someone to shut up. Tim-E- Dee 18:20, 20 Mar 2005 (MST)

Hi there Sanjuro. Please note that this conversation occurred four months ago. It's done. Also, please do not feed the trolls. Thanks. -- Tom 11:48, 21 Mar 2005 (MST)

I too have never heard Kerry called "Pencil Face." I've heard horse face, but not pencil, so the thought never ocurred to me. And the whole Massachusetts thing...it seems a bit to political for TBC to imply MA is hell, even if they are from the south. Any other political jokes would be a stretch...the main joke imo is that it's funny to hear Homestar pronounce "Massachusetts."

Hi there. Please note that this conversation occurred eight months ago. -- Tom 03:33, 24 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Wait a minute- isn't there an actual town called "Hell" somehwre's? In like, Massechusetts or Michigan or somewhere's? Wait, it's in Minnesota! That means my theory is wrong! SaltyTalk! 21:47, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi there Salty. Please note that this conversation occurred fourteen months ago. -- Tom 21:51, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

I, being from the South, have this to say, most southerners are (or were when I lived there) WAY over the events that transpired 145 years ago. Some still think that the north deserves to be burned to the ground, but those people tend to live in trailer homes and throw washing machines into their front yards. So... yeah. And Tom, I know this conversation took place about two and a half years ago. --Homsar Lover

Hi there Homsar Lover. Please note that enough is enough. — Defender1031*Talk 02:47, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Welcome to Massachusetts!

Heck, I live in Massachusetts! I wish I had found this toon earlier, cuz its nice to have a reference to your home state, even if its a satirical one. Yes, this was a pointless topic to bring up. -acekirby13

Ditto. I'm a Bay Stater myself and I thought it was freakin' hilarious. ;)--70.109.227.248 03:22, 10 Apr 2005 (MDT)
Wow, I wasn't expecting a reply. Sweet. '_' -acekirby13 20:25, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
this was truly hilarious - he-who-shall-not-be-named
I live in Wareham myself. This toon was like, the funniest thing ever.--SBadiaRula
    • I'm also from the BS (uhoh, "Bay State"-"BS" That's not good), and I'm totally fine with this

'toon. I mean, sure, it could be insulting if you're a very literal person, but I don't think TBS were tring to insult us. -Nom anor67

[edit] Quote???

  • That weekly quote had one from here. That's wierd. I mean, that cartoon wasn't even on the site! --Gooblies 20:47, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • True. But it was definitely made by TBC, and it's widely publicized in H*R circles like this one. --Jay (Gobble) 20:48, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • In the last sketchbook they had, they also made mention of the unguraits. Maybe they're starting to be more open about their more secret workings? Maybe next week we'll finally find out what Trivia Time officially looks like.

[edit] wow

This cartoon can be found in the program Macromedia Central. Go into "Help → About Central" and ctrl-click on the "C" logo (On Mac go into "Central → About Central" and double CMD Click on the C logo). When you are given a password field, type in "sbemail" and press enter. The cartoon will then play in the about box.
How did someone find this? Were they just randomly clicking everywhere, typing random stuffs in the password box, hoping to find it? — talk Bubsty edits 04:30, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
Most likely one of the programmers at Macromedia began to show it off or tell people in Usegroups, which naturally led to this fun little fact. MNGoldenEagle 04:25, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Calling Homestar Runner!

I think the line is "General Pencilface" instead of "Senator Pencilface." It doesn't sound like senator at all to me. EASports 03:57, 13 January 2006 (UTC)

I hear "Senator". -- Tom 04:00, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
I hear the same as Tom. Heimstern Läufer 04:03, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Second = Very Yes. Oh wait. This isn't STUFF. Has Matt? (talk) 04:04, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Weird. It sounded like "general" at one volume setting and "senator" at another. Somewhere between it sounds like "seneral." EASports

I sorta heard "seneral", but I think that's because of his speech impediment. My vote is "senator". SaltyTalk! 21:47, 14 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HELP!

I can't find the toon on the Central area anymore! --Mini-Trogdor 01:56, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Works for me. The only hitch is that you have to click directly on the "C" for it to work. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 14:28, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Since Adobe took over Macromedia, it's impossible to find. I've removed the explanation. You can rewrite it in past tense if you like. Retromaniac 21:28, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Simply because Adobe bought Macromedia doesn't mean that it's not there. However, it was apperently removed, and I put it in past tense. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 21:31, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
The egg is still in the version of Central downloadable from the website. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 21:56, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
That's weird. I can't find the "Help" box at all. Can someone point me in the right direction? (I use a Windows.) -WeirdAl (talk · 21:53, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
I can't get it to work.

WHAT I DID

1. I went to the Adobe Macromedia Central page

2. I held down Ctrl

3. I clicked on the C on the Macromedia Central 2.1MB download box

Result: it loaded up a box within that box that asked if I wanted to install Macromedia Central.

IT DOESN'T WORK!

Retromaniac 21:45, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

You have to actually download Macromedia central...--Color Printer 11:51, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Info link

Should we include the fact that the link that says "info" leads to this hrwiki article, or is that just when you link from the article page.

The Flash file is actually hosted by the wiki (have a look at the URL), TBC have never put it on the homestarrunner.com website. That's why the "info" link (which is not part of the Flash file) leads back to the wiki. So no, it's not a fun fact. Loafing 11:18, 9 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Old Hostess Commercials?

I think I remember some old Hostess commercials (not just Twinkies) that took place in a heaven-like setting. My memory's not that good though... I might just think I remember. Anyways, I think Strong Bad's comment about there not being enough Twinkies is a reference to one of these old commercials. Does anyone agree (or have a better memory)? — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 23:32, 15 September 2006

[edit] Article name

This was added to the page on the fun facts section:

This cartoon had no official name until it was discovered by a member of the Homestar Runner Wiki Forum, who suggested that the Wiki create a page on it. Many different names were considered, but the Wiki eventually decided on "Where The Crap Are We?". suggested by user InterruptorJones.

It would be nice to have a forum link to that thread. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

It's right here, right in the first section. Ding! ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 20:36, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

Let me say first that I really like the name "Where the Crap Are We?" and was shocked to discover that it is unofficial. The more I think about it, however, the more I think that, since we don't have an official name for the toon, this article should be moved to something more professional. "Marcromedia Central Easter Egg Toon" was suggested, for example. Yes, that title is extremely boring, but I don't like the idea that we're making stuff up. I also don't think that, if this toon were discovered recently, we would have chosen such a colorful name, no matter how awexome it was. — It's dot com 21:57, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Between Blue Fadey Land and a Twinkie

I removed this fact from the page because I thought it was a coincidence, though interesting. Trey56 07:08, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

  • This toon also bears a strong resemblance to the book "Between Heaven and Hell", a hypothetical dialogue after death between John F. Kennedy, C.S. Lewis, and Aldous Huxley (all of whom died on the same day), in which they debate whether they are in heaven, hell, or neither. Additionally, the first line in the book is JFK saying "Where the hell are we?", just as Strong Bad first asks "Where the crap are we?"

While I'm on the topic, should this fact be on this page? I don't think this one is any more likely (but I didn't want to remove it since it's been on there so long). Trey56 07:12, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Ghostly Twinkie?

I posted under Remarks the fact that Homestar grabbed a Twinkie from offscreen, but he and Strong Bad were unable to get past the edges. It was removed. Any ideas why? Surely it's not too obvious to mention is it? -- Nevadie 21:06, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

I thought that was fine, but it kinda explains the joke. We don't like doing that. Dr. Clash 21:11, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] No Longer Available

The 'toon is no longer on Macromedia Central because there isn't one anymore. :-(

Well, good thing we have it mirrored. ¤ The Dang, Pom Pom, you see that? That's a nice golbol. Talk to me. 16:41, 30 June 2007 (UTC)

We should have at least an approximate date it was removed from the program (or no longer available for download, as those who got it will still have it of course) for the article where we say it's no longer available. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 01:50, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

The toon wasn't removed from the program, the program is just no longer for sale. -- Tom 20:44, 1 July 2007 (UTC)
Right. Still, adding the date the program was withdrawn would be an asset to the article, if anyone knows it. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 20:58, 1 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Naw = No?

I know the QOTW was given as "Naw." However, when you listen to the toon AND the quote, SB is so obviously NOT saying "Naw" and so obviously saying "No." That's pretty inarguable. That said, why do we stick to an obviously inaccurate transcription? Because TBC said so? I don't buy it. I recommend we change the transcript to "No" and add a footnote explaining that TBC did it as "Naw" in the QOTW, even though it doesn't sound like that. After, all, this is supposed to be a transcription, or an accurate portrayal of the audio in written text. We're not doing it right if we slavenly stick to what TBC did even if it's clearly incorrect. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:02, 6 July 2007 (UTC)

Quermaq, for once I agree with you. TWO'D!! --Homsar Lover

Hi there Homsar Lover. Please note that this conversation is... oh, I mean, THREE'D — Defender1031*Talk 02:57, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
I agree, it's "no". Yayz. Bluebry 03:08, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
With 3 agreements and no objections in nearly a month, I shall edit accordingly. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:32, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Size

Is it just me, or is Strong Bad a lot smaller than usual in this one? I mean, I think he's usually the same height as Homestar, and if you look at the flash file, Strong Bad's legs would have to be extremely long for him to be standing at the same level as Homestar. Omnisweater 22:05, 9 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Homestar's eyes goof

No, you're right. I think it's Massachusetts. To looking to the left Right in the in between "No, you're right." and "I think it' Massachusetts." his eyes end up reversed until he lifts his leg in the Easter Egg.
