::::::I swear this is the last time I'll post on this subject on your talk page. After studying the evidence a little closer, it seems the ''drawing'' of Uncle Sam didn't come about until the 1830s. So I changed my vote to the revision. Welcome to The Homestar Runner Wiki!
Hello, and welcome to The Homestar Runner Wiki! This is the best place, as you've probably noticed, to learn about anything and everything Homestar Runner. There are a couple of things you should read up on before you really start jumping in and editing -
- Take a look at the Wiki Standards to see how things work around here.
- Read up on how to edit at the Editing Help section.
- Read the FAQ.
- Read the MediaWiki User's Guide.
- If you're looking for more interaction with the users, our Chat Channel is always available, and we also have a Wiki Forum.
- The Stick is a place where you can find out some projects to do or committees to join, if you choose to.
- If you're still confused, check out the Introduction page.
If you have any questions, ask them up in the HelpDesk or ask JoeyDay, or any other of the sysops or admins ('sysop' is just a special term for someone who watches over the wiki and has a few more rights than other users). I'm sure you'll catch on quickly, and all of the users are very nice here. Feel free to delete this message when you're done reading it, and I hope you stick around and join our team. Have fun! – Pertmywert (Talk·Edits), The Homestar Runner Wiki Welcoming Committee
Wilde Coincidence?
Your name is a reference to The Picture of Dorian Gray, is it not? And furthermore, does that indicate that you identify with the character Dorian Gray, or are you just a fan of the book/movie/story/author? If you are referencing the novel, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. I'm a big Oscar Wilde fan myself, and I wrote an essay on The Picture of Dorian Gray for Philosophy class, back in June. -Polly 07:47, 3 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Actually, I've been trying to find the novel to read. I only know about Dorian Gray from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen film. I like reading the background of such things, which is why I want the novel. I haven't yet had an oppurtunity to get to the library yet, and it's never in at the bookstore...
- EDIT: I got my mum to check the book out for me instead. All is well. --DorianGray
Sorry for the edit
Ya sorry, that was pretty stupid of me, I just wanted to see if anyone would notice and change it. I promise nothing of the sort will happen again.
- That's quite all right. No lasting harm done, and it was all taken care of quickly. Thanks for apologising, though. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time here. ^-^ --DorianGray
Moved examples into list
I hope it's okay, but on Talk:Ice Cream I went ahead and moved your examples into the list itself and put a note on it so others will edit it as they see fit. If you want, repost with your opinion on whether it should be a running gag. — It's dot com 03:48, 11 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- Yes, of course it's fine. Anything for the good of the wiki, yeah? --DorianGray
England
Have a good trip! Never mind the bullocks! — It's dot com 03:30, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)
- England, huh? That's quite the trip you're taking. Hope it's a good one. We'll try to keep the wiki afloat during your absence, but it will be tough. Have a good time. —BazookaJoe 03:30, 16 Aug 2005 (UTC)
Away Message Song
I'll be away in England for the next three weeks, y'all. Sorry. To make up for my not being here to help the Wiki, I offer you this away message song. Yes, it's the same 'Believe It Or Not' song that Homestar and George Costanza have sung to before.
Believe it or not,
I'm away from the comp,
So leave a message just for me.
I must be out, or I'd IM you back.
Where could I be?
Believe it or not, you're alone!
Please, hold your applause. --DorianGray
- Well, Seany-sama, how was England? If you're from Pennsylvania, how come you spell favorite "favourite"? I'm from Texas, one of your other favou—I mean, favorite places. — It's dot com 22:28, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- I spell everything the English way coz, well, coz I'm so hung up on England. Originally, though, it was a side effect from visiting Neopets and it's just stuck with me. And all those other reasons about it actually being the real and correct spelling and all. And as for England itself... Well, to tell the truth, it's not so different from here, except for the television programmes, when you get right down to it. But, despite being faintly similar, it was a total blast.
- Did you go to the tower, or the abbey, or the palace? Did you ride the Eye? The last time I was there, I got to drive a car by myself through the cities and highways of Scotland. That was fun, and not just a little weird being on the wrong side of the road. — It's dot com 23:57, 5 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- Me, I didn't really do much of anything a normal tourist does. I went up to stay with my friend, who I met a couple years ago online. We've been planning this forever. I stayed at her house up in Nottingham, so most of the sights I saw were generally A) really cool and loud, 2) around the general Nottingham area, and D) more "fun" than "historic" or "tourist-y". My mum and sister did the whole bus-tour thing throughout England, Wales, Scotland, Ireland, and even nipped down to France for a day, though. But I was more content to stay with my best friend than go sightseeing.

Sound Effects
I think it's great you're spearheading this project. Look at the formatting changes I just made (putting each table cell on a new line and a space after the align=center part). I think that makes the code easier to read. Also, be sure to link every instance in the last column. A user shouldn't have to search up and down the list for a link. — It's dot com 17:31, 14 Sep 2005 (UTC)
- All right. Thanks for the advice (and the help). And I just like making lists. I have tons of similar lists on my computer (none are H*R related, though). --DorianGray
Secret
Yes, it does. I was wondering if someone would see that. you win. --— talk Bubsty edits 20:41, 25 Sep 2005 (UTC)
Synonyms
Um, have you been known to collect synonyms? I saw that in your entry. --The 386 00:31, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- For some things. Synonyms are useful if you write a lot. That way, you don't come off as boring by repeating yourself. --DorianGray
So, we all know that. But do you REALLY do that for a livin'? --The 386 00:33, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Currently, I don't do anything for a living. I do it as more of a hobby. --DorianGray
Hobbies
I see. Why is that your hobby? --The 386 00:36, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- I think 'coz I'm weird like that' works best here. Anyway, I have a lot of hobbies, some of which I take more seriously. Some, like my synonym collections, are just for fun. --DorianGray
I think you're right. If you want, you can tell me about synonyms in my talk page. --The 386 00:39, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Well, aside from all those ones for regurgitation, I only collect synonyms for 'crazy'. You can see them all here. --DorianGray
I remember learning that in school. But don't you want to tell me about it in my talk page? --The 386 00:57, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I figure we're already here... Would you like me to move the discussion, then? --DorianGray
Uh, no. Just leave it here. --The 386 01:05, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
- All right then. Maybe we can continue some other time on your page. But for now, I'm gonna go... Place. --DorianGray
Okay then. I'll try to log on tomorrow. But till then, I'm outta here! --The 386 01:13, 4 Oct 2005 (UTC)
Note
You asked for a note encouraging you to do that work on the Videlectrix games. I have left such a note here. See also the bit about the music. Thanks for being willing to do this. — It's dot com 05:05, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Willing, yes... Unfortunately, by the time I got here, it seems someone already added all the music links (although I was able to make a few minor corrections). As to the other bit... D'you want me to just include a new "Official Videlectrix Description" section in each game, or what? --DorianGray 16:55, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, whatever you think is best. — It's dot com 17:26, 17 October 2005 (UTC)
- Looks like someone beat me to the punch there, too. I did get to do some minor formatting, though... Ah, well. Next time, I won't get 12 hours sleep before starting a project. --DorianGray

Bottommost vote
Hey Dorian. This is a reminder that only your bottommost accept vote counts in STUFF. The one from the upper voting section has been removed. Please review this and make any changes if necessary. Thanks. (And thanks for voting for my revision. :) ) — It's dot com 03:02, 20 October 2005 (UTC)
- Oh, okay. I didn't know that. First time voting for a revision... Keep it the way it is, with the vote at the revised version. --DorianGray
- As it turns out, I was persuaded that the revision was wrong, so I split the second half of it into its own item. You should review it an make a new vote accordingly. Sorry for all the confusion. — It's dot com 15:49, 20 October 2005 (UTC)

Yes, your memory of a decision not to transliterate The Cheat Talk is correct: see HRWiki talk:Standards#Standardize "The Cheat Noises". —AbdiViklas 21:33, 6 November 2005 (UTC)

Defender of the Wiki
DorianGray was one of several users assiduously reverting the tsunami of edits of an IP-shifting troll-bot the night of November 11th 2005. For your heroism, this barnstar seems a small token. And your new Viking name will be DorianGray TrollBane. —AbdiViklas 08:00, 12 November 2005 (UTC)- Many congraturations!!! (Hey Wilbur, mind if I eat the last one?) — talk Bubsty edits 16:30, 12 November 2005 (UTC)
- Woo! Thanks, guys. Glad to help out. I just did what anyone with the best interest of the wiki at heart would do. --DorianGray
- P.S. Yeah, Bubsty, go ahead. I was just gonna put it at the end of my new card game anyway.
Yeah...sorry about that.
About the Star Wars intro on haircut, I was really tired when I heard that. The "Da Da Da Dear" sounded like the opening notes of the Star Wars main theme to me, at the time. Now it just sounds...not like that.
Anyway, sorry. ---Jeff J. W.(Talk·Contribs)
- No problem. I can see how one might think that, but it's really kind of... not that. No need to be sorry. That's the way the wiki works, yeah? --DorianGray
- Oh, come on. A Holiday Greeting most likely to be reverted? It doesn't sound like Chriiiii(st) to you? Listen to it one more time just to make sure. If you don't hear it though, I understand. Or did you revert it because you thought I was being in appropriate? Either way, I understand.
Sorry again. ---Jeff J. W.(Talk·Contribs)
- Yeah, I'm thinkin' more of who it would offend rather than what it sounds like. The page has a history of that revert, and I was just following what AbdiViklas put last time I remember it being reverted (right down to the edit comment). Maybe we could take it to the talk page. --DorianGray
- Understandable, but we didn't write/say/direct this. I thought we were here to report and act as a reference. I know it will offend a few people, but we're just supposed to state the facts, aren't we? Maybe it deserves a vote.

New Format
Hey DorianGrey. I was wondering, did you bring up your new format unto Standards? Try to clear it up with them before you implement new formats. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:03, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
- Well, actually... It was discussed a lot under one of the Running Gags (I forget which), and was then applied to several other pages. I just was bored and thus decided to take the next step. If I was out of order, sorry. It was discussed with users I respect a lot, so I figured it wasn't too bad. --DorianGray
- If you discussed it, it isn't out of order. Most people didn't like italics, though. Rogue Leader / (my talk) 00:13, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

- All right, but what do I click on? Is it free? --DorianGray
- On the main page, click on "Goldwave 5.12 is Available", then in the Download Links section, click on one of the links to download the program. It's shareware, and it will start prompting you to register it after a month (I think). It's something like $40 to register (or at least it was when I registered it, which was some time back). — KieferSkunk (talk) — 22:26, 5 December 2005 (UTC)
- Ooy. I dun care for shareware... Not if it's gonna prompt me for cash. --DorianGray

I mean, the digital music labs at both Eastman School of Music and UNC have it on their computers. Plus it's open source so it's good karma. —AbdiViklas 05:46, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

- ...Bubsty. For one; what is the point of this outburst? And two; plenty of people have known for as long as I can remember that there is water on the moon. Except that it's frozen. So... Ice. There is icecaps on Mars indeed. Homestramy20|Talk 05:11, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

How could I forget?
In answer to your question of how I could forget to link Dot com's name correctly: actually, I forget that sort of thing all the time. I can be pretty absent-minded, especially when I'm thinking about otheer things, like a project that I'm working on. So, thanks for catching that one for me! I probably wouldn't have for quite some time. Heimstern Läufer 03:13, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. Maybe I'll watch it particularly, just in case it happens again. Or maybe he should just have a main namespace redirect. I mean, he's cool enough. ;) --DorianGray
Thanks!
Thank you for reverting the Peasant's quest page. I was trying to revert it, but my mom was yelling at me to get off so I didn't have a chance.--ΨHomsarΨroksΨ 19:59, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
- No problem. I would've reverted it earlier, but wanted to see if anyone else would get to it first. All about teamwork, isn't it? --DorianGray
Trollage
Wow. First troll in a while. What a waste of one of the few chances to troll nowadays. The least he could have done is waited until the dark of night, and then moved a million pages here there and everywhere... In any case, thanks for the revert. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 21:18, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- That's what I'm here for... And it was a pretty sad attempt, truth be told. If I was a troll--which I am not, never was, never will be--I'd make something special of it, since the chance is rare, like you said. (Hopefully, we're not giving anyone any ideas. Although, my talk page and user page are rarely looked at, so there should be no problem.) --DorianGray
- Oh, and just for the record, we actually had a similar incident of vandalism only about a week ago, when someone decided to blank portions of Homestar Runner (a similarly feeble effort, quickly reverted). So it actually hasn't been all that long. Heimstern Läufer 21:30, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
- Haha, yea, I saw that one. I think it was Jay that got him. But the block log has been pretty sparce as of late, there's only been like a dozen blocks (3 or 4 because of trolls) since NSMC. I feel kinda special to have been able to block one of the few trolls in the past while. And yeah DorianGray, you gotta watch for 'em. Take it from someone who once was one - Trolls are a sly bunch. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 21:34, 19 December 2005 (UTC) DorianGray's mother was a hampster, and his father smelled of elderberries!

Reverts
I would like to help out the site. Can you tell me how a revert works? Marth 99
- Sure I can! When a page has been trolled or had a bad edit made, the simplest way to change it back is to revert it. Each page has a history of every edit made to it, see. Up at the top, you'll notice a little tab marked "history" (it's the fourth from the left, usually). Click on that and it'll bring up a page of all the edits made to that page, most recent ones on the top. Find the version you want to change it back to and click the date for that version. This will bring that version up in the window for editing. Just type "reverted" or "rv" (or "rv/v" for vandalism) ito the edit summary box beneath it and hit "save page". And that will correct the whole page! I hope that helps. If not, check out the Help pages for more information. --DorianGray

Thanks for reverting my user page from that vandal. That's a first for me, getting vandalised. Heimstern Läufer 00:19, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I certainly wasn't going to just leave it, yeah? Oddly, I've reverted several people's first trollings. --DorianGray
- Sure, I knew you wouldn't just leave it, but I thought I'd still thank you. I suppose with my revert-happy trigger finger I'm probably getting vandals mad at me by now and it was sure someone would come after me. Great way to celebrate the new year, don't you think? Heimstern Läufer 05:14, 2 January 2006 (UTC)
- Happens all the time. If you check the Contribs of trolls who vandalise userpages, I bet most will have another edit that was reverted by the same person whose page they ruined. I know this coz it's happened to me several times. It's nice to get back in the trenches again, though, isn't it? --DorianGray
- That's what I'd always thought about that (I remember one vandal who wrote an obscene message about Thesmokingmonkey after he made a revert). Which I find interesting, since I'd never reverted anything by this guy. He seems to have been nothing but a troublemaker: he just want after me and Has Matt? for no obvious reason. But I had always figured it would happen someday. And yes, it's good to be back in the trenches. I love reverting crappy edits again! Heimstern Läufer 05:33, 2 January 2006 (UTC)

Drawing of Darth Katana X
Yo, Dorian. I was wondering if you would draw a picture of Darth Katana X for my profile. I see by your guestbook entry and your deletion of AbdiViklas' note on John Reuben that you've seen my profile. You can read up on my Sith Apprentice there, if you haven't already.
He looks like Inuyasha dressed like Darth Vader, but he's only wearing Vader's headgear. And he has a big, glowing Katana Sword. So, would you mind drawing that? Because that'd totally rock - thanks one million! — Darth Katana X ( )
- I'd be totally willing to give it a try, although I can't promise top quality. But I shall still try! DorianGray never backs down from a challenge, believe it! I'll get on that first chance I have. --DorianGray
Awesome! Thank you! Supashi-bo! — Darth Katana X ( )
- And now it is complete. You can see the pic on DeviantART, complete with my comments, here. If you want to direct link to it, it's also on PhotoBucket. Feel free to copy and resize as you see fit. --DorianGray

Hey DG, how'd you get the Old-School Homestar for your newest quote? LePorello / T / C 14:39, 27 January 2006 (UTC)
- I actually took a screen shot from... personal favourites, I think. I cropped out everything but his head, and rotated, resized, and/or flipped it 'til it was layered perfectly over a normal Quote of the Week box with the current Homestar in it. And there it was: one old-school Homestar quote. However, since my editing software is now kaput, I can't do any more specialised quotes like that. Ah, well. --DorianGray
- What do you mean kaput? --Stux 18:36, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
- It won't load anymore. Click it, nothing happens. Also, since all PNGs are saved to open directly from that program, now if you wish to open a PNG, you have to right click and find "Open With..." and open it with something like Picture and Fax Viewer or Paint. --DorianGray
