Page of Unknown Origin

I found this page in my favorites, definitely bookmarked LONG AGO, but I do not know how I found it, and cannot find anything about it here on the wiki. It's some kind of Homestarrunner-made page. My Wedpage. Could someone please say what this is all about? -Ed 11:00, August 6 2006

Secret Pages with their own pages

I just removed four external links to secret pages that have their own articles: Not the 100th Email!!!, website, Strong Sad's Lament, and Email Processing Room. After doing so, I started thinking it might be worth our while to have some of the other pages that are linked to from here to have their own page. I mean, some of those old intros and stuff could use screenshots and better descriptions. So instead of a page with mostly external links, we would have a page with links to individual wiki pages about each secret page. How's that sound? -- Tom 10:20, 8 Dec 2004 (MST)

Hmm... Sounds interesting. I just made a page for "Sing Along". Some of this stuff doesn't lend itself to wiki pages particularly well, though. I suppose the previews could go on the pages that they are previewing ("Reddest Raddish" preview on the "Reddest Raddish" page), but what about stuff like "Wireless Bizness?" That doesn't need a wiki page all to itself, does it? -FatPamPam

I think it would be easy enough to judge what could use a page. And I've added Sing Along to a new Category:Secret Pages category. -- Tom 17:34, 19 Dec 2004 (MST)

Wireless Thingy

The old Wireless Bizness thing is not working anymore. Does someone have the transcripts for those emails? - The Brothers E

I've been looking for the exact same thing for a while now. I've been on Homestar for a while and I was around while it was up. I remember it being hysterical. The only one I remember from it was the Salty Plum Soda one from stu that later became the rollover button on the toons page. I REALLY want someone to find this. evin290 18:25, 13 Feb 2005 (MST)

Yeah! There was another one where he was trying help some guy out with the ladies, and his advice was basically, get a lot of money and cars, or switch to dudes. Is anyone else looking for this?

Yes I am. FIND IT, OR I WILL RAVAGE THE UNIVERSE!!!!!! Muhahahahaha. I er, um...suppose. --—Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_ 23:39, 31 Aug 2005 (UTC)

SB Sign Explanation?

Might the "i am awesomer than you" Strong Bad "sign" actually be Strong Bad's "sign"ature on the Message Bored? Because the rules for the board imply that the characters, or at least Strong Bad, post. And it certainly seems like something Strong Bad would use on a message board.

Wonder Years

Where did this page ever come from? It's in the "/sadjournal" folder.

Can't Find Marzipan Answering Machine Message

So I've gone through all of the Marzipan answering machine messages, and I can't find one that I remember from a while back -- a prank of Strong Bad imitating Homestar Runner, saying that he'd accidentally killed someone and he needs Marzipan to meet him and bring a bunch of towels and plastic trash bags and shovels. Anyone know where I can find this little gem? Hi-larious.

Halloween 01

While I was searching for the swf file for Homestarloween (tto lazy to go to the wiki page), I tried going to "halloween01.swf", and I got this. Is this already up here and I just can't find it, or can I add it? And what is Coach Z dressed as? Pom Pom, too (no pun intended...though I think it's "the Skipper too"...no pun intended). --VolatileChemical

I can't get it to work right now (dang those secret pages!) but I believe I've seen it before. I even have a picture of it on my computer. Basically, it's the entire cast minus Homsar in their 2001 Halloween costumes - almost. Pom Pom seems to be Gilligan's Skipper, and Coach Z is a Noid (an old pizza commercial mascot). --Jay 17:16, 25 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Marzipan is also dressed like Velma from Scooby-Doo. The chheat has a different shirt too. I wonder where The KOT's moustache went? For some reason, that bouncing dot thing on the Poopsmith's costume (on the chest of his "armor" is moving up and down and back and forth. --—Darklinkskywalker|Talk_|i did this stuff_ 22:39, 20 Jul 2005 (UTC)

Sucky treats costumes?

"www.homestarrunner.com/halloween01.swf" does not exist anymore.. you get a 404'd error.. is there a mirror somewhere? if not.. someone should make one and relink it.. or something.

Works for me. —BazookaJoe 04:07, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
See Halloween Costumes#The House That Gave Sucky Treats (2001). And the link works fine for me as well. -- Tom 04:08, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)
No, i mean the hidden costumes page? the one that Coach Z is the Noid, and Marzipan is Velma from scooby doo.. the costumes are on that page, but not the flash file. Its linked from Secret pages, but (on my computer anyway?) its a 404'd. -- Collin 04:12, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

hahahha i just get more retarded as this conversation continues.. maybe i should do soemething about this.. -- Collin 04:21, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

Wow. I was looking for that file on the Wiki a while back. Couldn't find it (guess it was in 404 mode at the time, as I remember a "Halloween" page acting oddly...) Actually, I had the picture saved to disk for reasons that I no longer remember, and conveniently made the pictures on the Costumes page from that. --Jay (Talk) 04:48, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

A mirror for the secret pages' files

I think we all agree that the old SWF files that we link to on this page do not work from time to time. I propose that Tom upload some (if not all) of these files to the wiki's mirror. Now that the forum is being hosted elsewhere (hats off to the kind individual from HomestarRules), increased bandwidth usage as a result of the mirror isn't an issue. These files, in all likelihood, are on TBC's site indefinately. When/if these files finally go the way of "A Jumping Jack Contest" and "Marshmallow's Last Stand" (albeit for different reasons) it will/would be nice to have a mirror firmly in place. I am not proposing a removal of the current link(s) to the secret page under "External Links". Rather, an additional link for those people who get 404'd on occasion. Comments? —THE PAPER PREEEOW 05:27, 19 Aug 2005 (UTC)

I agree.. it would be nice to have both links in the secrets page, like Main page and Mirror.. you could put some sort of note at the top that says the mirror is there for if the pages don't work. And i'm sure the mirror wouldn't get too much bandwidth abuse since the original files are on the website, its only like backup. And if the pages do ever go on permanent haitus then its no biggie since they're on the hrwiki right? --Collin 05:22, 23 Aug 2005 (UTC)

What happens when you click on the cherry from the Matt Cake page? From past experience, I think I'm a bit afraid to. Can anyone tell me?

Cleanup

This page isn't very organised. It's in six categories, but within those categories, they're just a mess. They're just strewen about in the order they were added. It needs to be cleaned up. -- Super Sam 12:04, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Possible Secret Pages

I was browsing for images from Homestar Runner.com on Google Image Search and I found:

http://www.homestarrunner.com/amazon.html - its like a fake Amazon.com page.

http://www.homestarrunner.com/weenstuff/weenstuff1.html to http://www.homestarrunner.com/weenstuff/weenstuff40.html - although there might be a link to these, it is in museum format.

fanstuff_pic.jpg - this is a pic used as current weekly fanstuff, it is updated with the flash file because it actually isn't changed, just the picture and the text are (this is mentioned on the weekly fanstuff article). For some strange reason, the page it is supposed to be on redirects to http://www.hrwiki.org/index.php/Weekly_Fanstuff

pictures such as http://www.homestarrunner.com/costumes03.html are apparently from Fan Costume Commentary, however these are 404'd, so they are probably no-longer on the site.

I did my homework and here is what i found out: the stamp is on the old e-mail updates page, but was re-used in the current e-mails page. I guess I know why nobody pointed that out, they all thought I knew - Volbeat A The Cheat 08:50, 1 December 2005 (UTC)

Cleanup Idea

For cleaning this up, would it be helpful if we made it a gallery, like the Toons page? For this that have no music, we could upload a graphic saying "NO IMAGE AVAILABLE". This is just my idea. I don't see much fodder on this page to get started with, so I'll clean it up if I know what we need. -AtionSong 17:26, 25 November 2005 (UTC)

Here's my suggestion:
Screenshot Name Description External Links
Third Games Menu One of the old game menus. View the Flash file
I think that would work really well. A re-order would be nice, too. - Joshua 17:40, 25 November 2005 (UTC)
Good idea. — talk Bubsty edits 16:39, 26 November 2005 (UTC)

Also, I don't think we should do the same format for the toon previews. It would take up too much space and would just not be worth it. Perhaps we could put links to the previews to all the toons individually instead of taking up the space here. -AtionSong 00:58, 27 November 2005 (UTC)

True that. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:34, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I would argue about those being a secret page, as you can actually see them every time you mouseover a toon. I'd suggest moving them to the external links section of the corresponding toon. - Joshua 13:01, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Yes, I guess they're not secret pages. Otherwise it could be arguesd that (nearly?) all flash files are Secret Pages, as the only links on the site are the .html pages. -AtionSong 15:22, 27 November 2005 (UTC)
Sounds good to me, a bit of additional external linkage never hurt nobody. Since somebody's already deleted them, I'm gonna go ahead and get the links out of the page archive, and add them to their respective pages. Ooooor, should they go to just the Toons page? Thunderbird 23:37, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
I'd say both, if possible. - Joshua 23:49, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Or they could have their own page, with descriptions for each one. - Joshua 23:53, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
A seperate page, I think is a bit excessive. Perhaps both might be the best way to go. Just add an extra column to the tables here, and then external linkage on all of them. Any objections? Thunderbird 23:55, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
First table's done. Hows that look? Thunderbird 00:10, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
I don't see why they should be added to the toon pages themselves. The three links we currently have (HTML, Flash, and Forum) are links that people actually need. I myself click on them all the time. The link to the Flash file of the Toons menu would be pointless. Since they're a part of the Toons menu, a list of them there would be appropriate. — It's dot com 00:18, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
I'm fine with it on the Toons page. Carry on. - Joshua
What if "preview" was the last column? — It's dot com 00:29, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
Wow The page looks great! If you don't mind I have taken the liberty to remove the cleanup tag. If you feel there's more to do, please say so and feel free to place it there again. Joshua, IRF, et. al., you've done a superb job! --Stux 22:55, 6 December 2005 (UTC)

Fan Costumes

Does someone have a mirror of the fan costumes secret page? The link seems to be down for good... - Joshua 22:28, 28 November 2005 (UTC)

[3]. -- Tom 03:44, 29 November 2005 (UTC)
That's not exactly a mirror, and it's only one page... - Joshua 15:15, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
The pages were all exactly like that. The image would be shown, and a flash file would play Strong Bad's comment. If I remember correctly, the Fash file also contained "next" and "prev" buttons. -- Tom 18:46, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Yeah, I remember it. It was just like the toon except with those buttons and Strong Bad didn't talk. I was just wondering if we had an exact working mirror for new users. - Joshua 18:53, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
The SWF file does not load correctly from the archive. And so it's features cannot be seen. However, it might be possible to get the SWF from the mirror (if they have it) download the HTML and play both together from your hard drive. --Stux 18:52, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
It seems the archive did not save the SFW file as I cannot find it. --Stux 18:54, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
I have the SWF file if you need it. Shoot me an email if you would like me to send it your way. tpaper AT gmail dot com. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 04:57, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! I just sent out the email. However, the main reason I asked was to see if there's a way it could be hosted locally on the hrwiki mirror. Though I don't know if we have all the necessary files... --Stux 06:42, 10 December 2005 (UTC)
I sent it to you and to Tom. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 02:13, 11 December 2005 (UTC)
I got the file thanks! It works great! However, there is one um... not so slight problem: it seems that there is a separate swf file for each picture. i.e. costumes02.swf ... costumes11.swf (along with their HTML and jpegs of course). The archive only seems to have the html pages (except maybe 9) and jpegs 1,4, and 7. Do you, by any chance... have everything else? --Stux 02:56, 11 December 2005 (UTC)

Two Questions:

I have two questions:

  1. Where did these go?
  2. and why do they not appear on this diff which is the last one where they appeared. at.
  3. These preview SWFs are all valid links if they've simply been removed. However IRF did point out something important: the links to this page were originally meant to be for stuff that could NOT be linked to or seen from anywhere unless you type in the URL yourself. This page has many links to SWF's and other things that are actually part of many easter eggs or navigation features. If we restrict our criteria to the original intent most of this page would be gone. I think that we should create a separate page that lists all of these files (such as the preview SWF's above) that are visible SWF features in and of themselves (I used to think it was "in it of themlseves") but do not have their own HTML "frontend". (Or are special in some sense). Such links would indeed have a place in the encyclopedic nature of this wiki.
  4. As a side note, the Stinkoman XML files could be linked to from here (and perhaps their XML sources be copied for those who don't know how to see xml sources and are curious).

--Stux 16:05, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

To answer your main question, the toon previews were moved here. - Joshua 16:09, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Where did the holiday and puppet previews go, then? They're not on the list. Also, the list could use some standardising... Some put it in the last column, some put it in the second... --DorianGray
The list is still a work in progress, and is unfinished. The Holiday and Puppet previews still need to be added. Also, at first they were put in the second column, but then it was decided that the last column looks better so they were switched over. So some of them still need to be added, and some need to be switched to the last column. And I really have to get off this wiki and finish my homework. - Joshua 17:54, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Homework? What's that!? ;) --Stux 18:17, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm still curious to know why this diff does not show the removal of the items. --Stux 07:35, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

You want the next diff. -- Tom 18:16, 3 December 2005 (UTC)
Thanks! I see it now! I wish I had checked it earlier. OH! I see the problem now. It still baffled me why the incongruency between the diff and the time the change actually took place. Between these two diffs, the earlier reflect the visual removal in the text but not the diff, whereas the latter finally shows the actualy removal in the code. I had not seen that that section I was looking at had been commented out(like this: <!-- -->) and thought there might be some bug in the diff system. Again, thanks! --Stux 19:25, 3 December 2005 (UTC)

one of these things is not like the others

since my correction was already reverted I will take my concerns here:

In my opinions the following items do not belong as secret pages. They are easter eggs... clickable from normal toons. They are not hidden URLs that you would have to know about like all the others on this page.

  • 50 cake
  • Seriously!
  • Virus'd QoD
  • Virus'd Fanstuff
  • Virus'd Sketchbook
  • The Sweet Cuppin' Cakes buddy icons

I R F 17:11, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

But to see them seperately, you would have to know some special URL. That's the key, I thinks. --DorianGray
The place for them is not on this page, its on the individual toon in which they were egged, (which they already are). Eggs just don't belong as secret pages. I R F 17:24, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
As long as they're in a seperate section from the other things (Site Components) I'm fine with them here. Yes, you can see them, but they pages they are on are secret pages. (The content isn't secret, but the page is.) - Joshua 17:43, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
I see nothing wrong with having a collection or list of these (as I pointed out in the discussion above this one). Joshua and Dorian are right, the URLs they reside on are secret. We could still differentiate them in the way I deliniated above. --Stux 18:15, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
They are already differentiated. They have their own category. Secret Pages#Site Components - Joshua 18:24, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
I didn't even see the above convesation, they are pretty much the same topic. I R F 18:38, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

Site Components ... You can't have it both ways

Ok I'm trying to appease those that want some of these site components here on the secret pages, but you can't it both ways.

The following are item that are easily and can be clicked on: 50 cake Seriously! Virus'd QoD Virus'd Fanstuff Virus'd Sketchbook The Sweet Cuppin' Cakes buddy icons

I tried to have them removed but was overruled.

Now items that are equally clickable but bring up seperate pages are the items I've just added.

Either allow them all or delete them all. Personally, I think that they all should be removed as non of them are secret. I R F 15:32, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi IRF, I looked at the entries that were removed and here's the distinction I could make: the ones that you added had html pages that were linked to the museum and their flash components were linked directly from the HTML page. All of these entries already have their own page and link to the flash file itself like all other toon pages. The links posted in the site components page are different. These are actually flash files within flash files, for which you can't simply open the flash file look at its source and examine the URL of its components. These are special flash files used as components of the main flash files in question. I hope that clears up your questions. (As a side note, and per my suggestions above, these should probably have their own separate page). --Stux 15:46, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Both have the same format, a new window pops-up without an address bar from clicking on a flash file. They are both flash within a flash. The only difference is one is moving toon, and the other is a static menu. I still hold that either they all go or they all stay. I R F 16:26, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
It's twue. [/homestar] - Joshua 16:35, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Then they should either all stay or be moved to their own page. Deleting interesting content (that's even been here a while) is not a good practice. — It's dot com 16:50, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
(EDIT CONFLICT'D! Ow, my point!) Actually, that's true only of the Sweet Cuppin' Cakes stuff, which is also the only item I'd seriously consider dropping. "Seriously" is separate from the wallpapers and everything else appears in the same window. --Jay (Talk) 16:54, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Also, I forgot to say: not having an address bar does not stop you from seeing the URL or viewing the source... if you know where to look (try right-clicking outside the 'toon itself.) --Jay (Talk) 16:57, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
Edit Conflict Ok I see what you mean now. I hadn't yet looked at the museum flash file, just the flash linked from the wiki page (ugh habits ... habits). You're absolutely right! They are flash components in the same way as the ones listed currently on site components. More specifically, some are shown as flash-within-flash (like the pom-pom first flash, the story of pom-pom, and the now-listed Seriously! egg), others open a new page (like original games menu, the original characters page, and the "Making out" easter egg in virus). On that standard, yes they should be on that page too! But they are not as secret. Again, I don't think it is useful to simply delete these components. A better home might be a Site Components page. --Stux 16:58, 7 December 2005 (UTC)
On another note, isle of pom, biz cas fri, tennis, etc all have their own html "cradle pages", the Virus Qod, etc. do not have such a page. More to the point: like Jay said, having an html cradled page does not preclude you from finding the flash source file, however you do not have that luxury with an in-line flash file without the use of an expensive decompiler. --Stux 17:01, 7 December 2005 (UTC)

Try this site. -AtionSong 13:37, 25 March 2006 (UTC)
I tried. I can't find anything. So, there's no way to get into the Parent Directory of a website? ...And if there is, how? H * R 7 0 0 15:36, 25 March 2006 (UTC)

Retirement?

Do you think we should add the links to "retirement A" and "retirement B" mirrors to the list? - Young Roy

I was thinking the same thing. 24.48.189.235 01:38, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
They aren't secret pages because they are no longer on the site. Loafing 02:02, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Marshmallow's Last Stand, Jumping Jack Contest - these were once on the site and have been removed, but they are listed. And Where The Crap Are We was never on the site at all. I think the criterion which has been used here (for right or wrong) is whether someone visiting the site would not know these pages exist or existed. That sort of secret. By that definition, the two parts of retirement might qualify. But, the question then is, do we want to use that definition of secret pages or not? And if we don't, what do we use, and do some things on the page have to go as a result? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 02:33, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Hmmm, deleted pages aren't really secret. I would interpret "secret" like "it's here, but you can only see it if you know where to look". Deleted toons have more of a "meh, we got rid of it"-style flavour. Loafing 02:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
MLA and JJC as well as Where the Crap are listed on Toons under "Not On The Site". So If they are not on the site, they are not secret pages, as secret pages can be revealed. We only have them because they are mirrored on our server. So I think they should be removed. As for retirement A & B, they should be noted similarly on the Strong Bad Email page. Maybe make a sub header for "Not On The Site" and list them with the DVD emails. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 09:09, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
I think it may be time to add another section to this page to cover RA, RB, JJC, MLS, etc. Or create a page for "removed toons" or something of the ilk. Ilko Skevüld's Teh C 13:03, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
I think it's fine to have all not-normally-accessed toons conveniently here on one page. This is where people would first look for these things. - Joshua 14:09, 13 October 2006 (UTC)
Infact, yeah. I can see this "removed toons" section. but they should also be noted on the SBE page. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 14:43, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

I was thinking about putting in either under "Removed From the Site" or "Alternate Versions of Toons." --Y. Roy 15:17, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

"Alternate Versions of Toons" works for me. It's technically what it is. - Joshua 03:22, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
