Talk:Main Page Messages
From Homestar Runner Wiki
Don't forget the one on January 8th: New sbemail! nothing else! After that Decemberween drought and highschool was released. --DorianGray
- Right right. I only put a few there to give the table shape. The template's gone now, so Be Bold! ;) ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 21:16, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Isn't it true that all buttons related to the Store are red? Such as "Old shirts going away?" —AbdiViklas 00:47, 1 April 2006 (UTC)
Where would the navy blue "Sbemail 150?!?" one go? - Qermaq - (T/C) 23:53, 3 April 2006 (UTC)
- I don't think we record main page messages that simply state the toon's name. - Joshua 00:02, 4 April 2006 (UTC)
- Can we keep missing lappy and punkin stencils cause they linked to secret pages?
[edit] Archived Newbuttons
I've been routinely saving the Flash file of newbutton.swf for the past two years now. As a result, I have amassed quite a few over that time. If anyone's interested in having said files, I'd be happy to create a ZIP archive for the wiki's benefit. —THE PAPER PREEEOW 22:25, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Sure. That would be nice. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:41, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Exact dates are from 30 June 2004 through this afternoon. I say there, Monstrosity! Do you know the times? —THE PAPER PREEEOW 23:00, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
- Greate, I'll start tommorow. — Elcool (talk)(contribs) 23:03, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Date-abase?
Wouldn't it be cool and useful if someone added the date of appearance for each of the "Special Cases" to the table? Because that someone is not me. – The Chort 18:38, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Email Soon
I pressed the "email soon" button [for the sbemail on march 13] and it led me to the 404'd page. Did this happen before? --Collin Diver 01:09, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
- Not that I know of. As far as I know, it was never linked to anything in the past. Then last email, it linked to the Strong Bad Email menu, and this time I just pointed out on H*R.com updates 2007 a few minutes ago that it linked to the 404'd page. ⇔Thunderbird⇔ 01:13, 13 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rolled Over
I added the "rolled over" section of the main page messages list but it was only used once for the old quote of the week button. So should i keep it or delete it? Homestar-winner 00:04, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- I was pondering that myself... Maybe we could mention that it changed when rolled over to the "Notes" section. --DorianGray 00:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- I'll try that and see if it's better Homestar-winner 01:01, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Well. I couldn't do it last night, but I just did it now, Homestar-winner 09:21, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Messages with the toon's name
It says up there that we don't record when the button is just the toon's name. Well, why not? Shouldn't the list be as complete as possible? — It's dot com 20:54, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I agree — Defender1031*Talk 21:25, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I concur! Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:38, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I guess now you want me to put back the crapload that I removed the other day. If others want those messages back, I'll try to see if I can. Bad Bad Guy 21:56, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- I added weclome back a long time ago but removed it after I read the 1st post. Bad Bad Guy 23:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- It wasn't difficult to undo those edits, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are more to be put back. — It's dot com 23:25, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 10% or 15% off?
I have all the necessary info for the "10% off sale!" button (it's orange), except I don't remember if it's "15%" instead of "10%." Bad Bad Guy 17:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
- You could check the Store Front Page News articles for details. I think it was 10. --DorianGray 18:01, 8 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Text Colors
Should we list the color of the text in EACH of the main page messages? I can only remember none.
DEI
DAT
VM┌datvm center\super contra┘
- I can only see it not being black or white on the main pages page in the "puppetween" and "new main page" main page massage. I mean, message. DEI DAT VM┌datvm center\super contra┘
[edit] Kick the Cheat button
If you click the button that reads "kick the cheat endangered" the position of the text won't change from where it was when you roll over the button.I also remember this happening on the "10% off sale" button. You can see it here, but it may be better just to see it here. Should this be nited somewhere? Homestar-Winner (talk) 21:10, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Homestar's 13th Anniversary... or is it 15th?
No, I'm not denying that it's been 13 years, but the Main Page Message says "13% off sale!" on a blue button, and when you roll over it turns dark yellow. Here's what's weird. The button does nothing when clicked, and if you hold the mouse down, it says 15% off instead of 13% off. Should this count as part of the 10% sale or be a special case?
[edit] "support the wiki"
The Chaps put up an ad for supporting this wiki today (8 October 2009), it comes after the "laptop skins" button. Would that be a special case?
- Update: Thanks That'sBupkis and Jay.
[edit] Extra H.C. stuff
When I entered the contest I got back a email where I got the gift code, and I didn't even win.
So should I add something like: "...Although, the prize was 10% off anything over $20.00. Also, Instead of everyone who won the contest, everyone who entered got the gift code."
Nihaho13 00:59, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure that everyone got the discount (including me, whose pumpkin didn't get featured at all grumble it was a short enough toon as is), but the winners got a better reward. Can't prove it, though. --Jaybor Day (Talk) 01:03, 11 November 2009 (UTC)
[edit] What's going on?!?!
The button, along with the weekly fanstuff, etc, is missing from the website! In fact, the file just leads to a 404 now! What's going on here? Sidnoea 20:03, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- Everything works okay for me. Maybe it was fixed just now. Like, right just now! That'sBupkis! 20:17, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
- Well whenever I go to a main page, the space is just blank. And when I go to the swf for the button, I get 404'd =/ I dunno what's goin on... Sidnoea 20:20, 13 January 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Main Page 26 new main page
The "new main page" button for Main Page 26 isn't Blue & Yellow, just plain Blue.
Also, anyone noticed that the only "new main page" and "april fools toon" buttons are scrolling?

[edit] It's still Trogday
For the anniversary of a random email this year, tbc announced a sale of SBCG4AP. Earlier in the evening, Soiled Bargains identified this as a Main Page Message. I thought those were only for the bubbles in the top-right corner of the main pages, rather than this automatic box in the bottom-right corner. so, does this update belong on this page? and if not, where does it belong? The Knights Who Say Ni 07:13, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
- I think it's the best place to put it. It may not on or triggered by (i.e., pop-up messages) the button but it's still a message displayed on all Main Pages. —Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 18:30, 14 January 2011 (UTC)
[edit] Last Updated 12-22-10?
This kind of occurrence has happened before (especially regarding They Call Him Flipper), but never on anything normally visible on the site. The main page message changed on or around October 3, and the wiki has documented this in multiple ways, but for me it still says "Last Updated 12-22-10" and has the update button from that time. Yet, I am able to see Fish Eye Lens in the Toons menu and can access it as well. Flushing the DNS on my end does not appear to fix it.
Is this happening to anyone else? -- ■■ PURPLE WRENCH ■■ 11:11, 6 October 2014 (UTC)
[edit] Current Messages Section
I think it's high time we composed a rock opera started keeping track of the messages that are currently on the main page. Just like add this little section at the top:
[edit] Current Messages
- Last updated 4-01-18
Text Text When Clicked Links to Color Notes Link april fools toon The Next April Fools Thing dark violet watch collectible figurines Homestar Runner Figurines Series #1 in the Store dark blue When rolled over, the button turns light blue. When clicked, it changes back to dark blue. view decemberween dangeresque! Decemberween Dangeresque red When rolled over, the button reads "puppet squad!" watch fan ween costumes Fan Costumes 2017 purple The text turns black when clicked. watch strong bad's twitter @StrongBadActual dark yellow The text turns black when clicked. view
I made some minor changes to the table like adding a "link" column, so that could either be kept or scrapped. But what do people think about having the section? Lira (talk) 16:24, 27 April 2018 (UTC)
[edit] what to do with broken links?
The link for trogdor hoodies is broken. Does it make sense to point to a Wayback Machine link (https://web.archive.org/web/20151127105545/https://homestore-runner.myshopify.com/collections/hoodies) or something like that instead? Trott 06:52, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- The jibblies shirt, witch's brew shirt, and raised by a cup of coffee mug links to the shopify store are all broken too. Trott 06:57, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
- I don't know what the general wiki policy is (or if one exists)... as someone who has recently done a decent amount of work on updating and revising Store pages, I've noticed that they tend to be among the least-visited and least-updated portions of the wiki (it's not uncommon to find a page referring to the Yahoo store (which closed nearly a decade ago) in present tense).
- In any event... I prefer using internal links for products. So (to use a non-dead link example), a reference to "the Trogdor shirt" would be linked to Shopify Store Clothing#tshirt_trogdor_shirt rather than https://homestore-runner.myshopify.com/collections/shirts/products/trogdor-shirt; the wiki page has images and text that won't disappear even if the item is pulled from the store, and at the footer the External Links point to the store page. Personally I don't think it's worth the extra effort to add Wayback links for the dozens of discontinued products across all the storefronts. -- Bleu Ninja 18:38, 31 May 2023 (UTC)
