[edit] Dashboard

I don't know if somebody's figured out the German in your troll userbox before or not, but I did. It says, "as fast as if it were on wheels," right? Nice joke. I just used my computer's dashboard, though; I don't know a word of German. But seriously, has anyone else realized that people can do that and win userpage contests really fast? -Brightstar Shiner 20:55, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Yup, good work. It would actually be better to translate it "as fast as if he himself were on on wheels", but an automated translator can't really tell the difference in German. So basically, my userbox says "This user p0wns vandals as fast as if he himself were on wheels", which is, of course, a reference to the prolific vandal Willy on Wheels. I put that thing up months ago, and you're the first to comment on it. You get cupcakes. Heimstern Läufer 21:15, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
Cool. I give out cupcakes in my movie quote contest at my userpage, but this is the first time (I think) that I've gotten cupcakes myself! Oh, and I must point out that automated translators can't translate things like "Wood Davers" and they just stay in German. So your Homestar quote thing is a little harder. Darn. -Brightstar Shiner 21:30, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
That's true. "Holzdaver" is a made-up word in German, kind of like "wood daver" is in English, so you'd have to figure it out from the context. Eh, the German translation isn't really going on anymore, anyway. I'm kind of done with it for foreseeable future. Heimstern Läufer 21:33, 5 January 2007 (UTC)
I sorta knew that; I was just using your contest as an example to show the Dashboard thing. Anyway, thanks again for the cupcakes. Bye! -Brightstar Shiner 13:30, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] German Translation

Since you say you'll bring it up if people pester you, Can you please Bring it back up? Please? (does puppy dog face) --Dacheatbot · Communicate 01:45, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, probably. You're not the first to have brought it up. Give me a bit, though. And don't expect me to do it once every two weeks like I used to. But yeah, we'll probably see a new one soon. Heimstern Läufer 07:29, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Answer: "Have you some time play football?" I think...-LordQuackingstick 22:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Uhh, almost... but you need to tweak a word. Heimstern Läufer 22:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Have you some time play soccer?-LordQuackingstick 22:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Not that either... Heimstern Läufer 22:58, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Has you some time play football? I'm telling you, man, I got it without a translator, but then I used one, and it said I was right.-LordQuackingstick 23:04, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
How about when hyperactive Strong Sad said "Wanna play some soccer?" to coach Z in caffeine? By the way, translators aren't waht you'd call fluent... - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 23:05, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, but Strong Bad says it.-LordQuackingstick 23:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
"Has you sometime play football" is correct. Good work. Remember, we're looking for the actual quote, not whatever your translator puts out. Heimstern Läufer 23:09, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] King of Town DVD commentaries

I thought you might want to know that 72.128.106.87 didn't write those commentaries. It looks like Mibluvr13 did, but she put them on the wrong page. 72.128.106.87 just moved them to the right pages. Shwoo 06:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Yes, we were discussing that in IRC after I posted that. At any rate, annony has still made some pretty good edits, and the weclome is still well-given, I think. Heimstern Läufer 07:02, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

What profanity? --90.240.34.177 04:12, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

it is considered offensive by many[1] and is not allowed at the wiki[2]

I'm sorry, I'm going to have to ask you to find me a consensus on that. As for editing, I am aware of how a wiki works and that I do not own what I submit; that doesn't mean I will allow improper editing, which is what I see going on here. I mean, just forget it and move on, because I certainly won't until my point is made. It irritates me. --90.240.34.177 04:50, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I see sources have been added. Nothing specific about my comment though (or Strong Bad, whom I consider to be pretty foul-mouthed anyway). --90.240.34.177 05:01, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
The page says "no swearing will be tolerated". Heimstern Läufer 05:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
And who defines swearing? You? --90.240.34.177 05:08, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
You have coincidentally happened along as I am developing guidelines on this topic (while obscenities have always been out-of-bounds). We have a lot of little kids here, basically. They hate being called that, but it's essentially true. Don't use naughty language in any sense of that here, please. And that's not established by one user, but by common sense. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:09, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Is it alright if I type "What the aitch-ee-double-hockey-sticks" then? --90.240.34.177 05:39, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
I'd assume such precise language would be within bounds. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:47, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually, 90.240.34.177, I think you know the answer to that. Just in case, no, that wouldn't be appropriate. Just leave the phrase out altogether. And isn't it a little silly to be having this discussion at such length? Heimstern was very polite when he first posted on your talk page, and our policies are what they are. They're really not a big deal, but they are important nonetheless; I'm sure you can abide by them. — It's dot com 05:50, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opera

"Ma il mio mistero è chiuso in me,
il nome mio nessun saprà!
No, no, sulla tua bocca lo dirò,
quando la luce splendera!"

Question: In what toon did a character refuse to go to the place this opera is set?

Okay, I'm not entirely sure, but my guess is Turandot, set in Beijing, China. Strong Bad complained about the Dig To China With Your Ears Contest in alternate universe. Trey56 07:21, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

The opera is Turandot. It is set in Peking, China, and takes place in the palace (or castle). Strong Bad doesn't want to go to The King of Town's Castle in the bet. -- Tom 07:26, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

"Mi tradì quell'alma ingrata,
Infelice, o Dio, mi fa!
Ma tradita e abbandonata,
Provo ancor per lui pietà."

Aw, it's Mozart, cool. "Leporello" is a character in "Don Giovanni" (the title character's servant) and The Sneak is described in Ballad of The Sneak as Strong Bad's "leporello". Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 08:11, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] German Translation from YouTube

  • Mr. Heimstern, since you know the German language, I was wondering if you can translate something for me. See my funny videos on my user page and click on link 15. It is a German commercial. There's no dialogue in it, but at the end there is text on the screen. It says, "So wach warst du noch nie." Can you translate this? Thanks, --TheYellowDart(t/c) 21:56, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, I don't know any context, so I dun know how much sense this makes. But what it means, so far as I can tell, is "You were never so awake." Loafi is a native speaker; he could tell us for sure. Heimstern Läufer 21:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
Thank you. It makes pretty much sense, if you see the video also. It's funny. I can go ask Loafing... right now. PEAOW! --TheYellowDart(t/c) 22:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barbzerdry!

Una voce poco fa
qui nel cor mi risuonò;
il mio cor ferito è già,
e Lindor fu che il piagò.

Question: In what toon could the title character of this opera have advised Strong Bad?

The title character is the Barber of Seville, and I guess he could have helped SB with haircut :-) Loafing 09:22, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I reckon Figaro would have given more normal results than a dog and also a cat shaped eyebrows, and a couple of muskrats. So probably it's best he wasn't in that email. Not to mention Figaro would never have thought of Düsseldorke. Heimstern Läufer 16:29, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ..........

Hi. I just wanted to let you know that my little brother was so mad about being blocked that he logged into my name and vandalized a few pages, thus causing me to be indefinately blocked. I didn't do anything wrong. I didn't know my brother knew my password. *sigh* Please understand. If I'm able to come back I'll make my password extremely hard so my brother won't be able to log into my name. This isn't the first time he logged into my name without me knowing.

PS. You're probably wondering how I'm typing this to you. I couldn't send an email because I don't have an email address, so I had no other choice but to log out and type this using my IP. — 70.224.63.27 (Talk | contribs) 19:19, 20 May 2007 (left unsigned)

Cool Tapes (if this is you), you have been blocked before. Do you claim that Viklas was responsible for that as well? And if so, how could you not have noticed? Why did you not tell us, and why did you not change your password? We have had vandals using the "little brother" defense before, so naturally, we are a bit skeptical about this. I assume you understand that we will have to block Viklas instead of you if we choose to believe you. Loafing 22:05, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the pic. Hey, I do hae one question, is a wiki picture hosting thing, or do I have to go to imageshack or something? Pointy King (Talk | contribs) 15:16, 12 June 2007 (left unsigned)

The wiki hosts its own pictures. Any user can upload them to our sever, just by clicking the "Upload file" link in the toolbox on the left. But before you do so, make sure you read the Image use policy and the Personal images policy first, so you know da rules. – The Chort 15:28, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

I went to upload file, but I got a permission error. :| Pointy King (Talk | contribs) 17:23, 12 June 2007 (left unsigned)

Ah, that's because your account is very new. New accounts can't upload files: it's a security measure so vandals don't upload inappropriate images. You should be able to upload files tomorrow. Another thing: in the future, sign your comments by writing four tildes like this: ~~~~. That way we can see who wrote the comment easily. Have a great time around the wiki! [edit] Re: Reversion of Who Said What Now talk and subtitles

That's not much of an explanation. Why would you want to have deliberately broken subtitles? Is there perhaps some bizarre cover-up involved that we can't even mention a game that is part of the site? We have a whole Secret Pages section (which includes toons no longer on the site AND things never intended to be seen by the public), so what's so bad about Spin 'n Say that we can't even use subtitles that actually work? Ppk01 03:22, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, there is a different reason. I regret that I'm not at liberty to elaborate on this; the one thing I can say is that this is at the request of the representative of the Brothers Chaps. Hope that explains at least a bit. Heimstern Läufer 03:30, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Opera.

The opera is Siegfried, and I'm guessing the powerful object is the sword Nothung, which is similar to the Trog-Sword from Peasant's Quest? Has Matt? (talk) 22:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Hmm... well first, the opera isn't quite right. Try searching again. As for the object... I wasn't thinking of that one, but I suppose it technically fits the question. But you need to identify the right opera to win. Heimstern Läufer 22:29, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
The opera is Götterdämmerung, the quote is from act 3, scene 2. As for the object, my first (and so far only) thought was Nothung, too. TCIC (Talk to me / Stuff I did) 22:35, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Is the object Andvarinaut, the magical ring? A ring was briefly seen in Teen Girl Squad Issue 7, I guess... Has Matt? (talk) 22:38, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Yes, it's the ring I was thinking of (though Wagner never calls it by that big name). The instance I was thinking for seeing a similar object, though was Peasant's Quest Movie Trailer, where Matt's wedding ring is briefly visible (see the Trivia). But, your answer works too. You both get credit for this one. Good work! Heimstern Läufer 22:41, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
