The Hiatus

The "original" reason for the 2009-2011 hiatus.

So popular lately.

During 2010, after the April Fools' Day toon Xeriouxly Forxe came out (itself the first major update in nearly five months), barely any material was produced on the website. Most of the articles presented on the main page were Store offers. This may be because of a new baby in the family, as noted on the FeedBurner page, and the possibility they were busy working on a different project. For the first time in the site's history, no Halloween cartoon was produced in 2010. After over seven months of no updates, on November 22, Poker Night at the Inventory was released. On December 14, 2010, A Decemberween Mackerel was released, temporarily ending the hiatus. This was shortly followed by Which Ween Costumes? on December 22. Following the holiday break into the new year, the site was back on hiatus, though Puppet Strong Bad did appear at an Aquabats concert in January. There have been no updates since (with the exception of a Store offer), and for the third time in its history since the trend began, the site was not updated for April Fools' Day in any way. In September, Matt created a Twitter account in which he stated that Homestar Runner would sooner be updated "sporadically and without warning", and that he works for the Nickelodeon program Yo Gabba Gabba, for which he had previously created an animated segment. No Halloween toon was released in October. During 2011, Many fans worried that the website was dead for good. On the HRWiki Forum, Many arguments took place about the hiatus and many people wondered "Is the website dead, or are they taking a long break?". The mysterious question remains unanswered.

"I admit, after they didn't make a Halloween toon or even put up fan costumes, I was considering that it could be over. But they make a good deal of their money off the store, don't they? maybe they aren't working on it not because they don't have time, but because it just isn't profitable. people just aren't buying products. HOMESTAR: That's a great idea, Pom Pom! Let's see if Bubs has any.
{Cut to Bubs, doing his usual at the consession stand.}
BUBS: Oh, hey, Pomstar and Homepom! How can I help you on this marvelous, gold-plated shady buisness day?
HOMESTAR: One bag of marshmallows please.
BUBS: Here you go! {he gives Homestar and Pom Pom a bag of marshmallows}
HOMESTAR: Ooh, score! What should we do with these, Ol' Pombuddy? What should we do with these? {Pom Pom's eyelids lower} Ooh, ooh! Look, Pom Pom! On the bag it says that "inside one bag of Fluffy Puff Marshmallows, there is a golden marshmallow that, when cashed in, gives you the limited edition Peasant's Quest sequel!"
{Strong Bad and The Cheat are watching.}
STRONG BAD: WHAT?!?! What would Homestar do with the sequel of the greatest game in the history of greatest games!?!? {talking to Bubs} Gimme one o' dem marshmallow bags!!! {Bubs gives Strong Bad a bag of marshmallows} Alright! Let's take a look-see! {looks at bag} YES!!! AWESOME!! I found it! I can build new empires out of pixels! I can fight off monsters during the nighttime! I can mine for all sorts of crap!
THE CHEAT: {The Cheat noises}
STRONG BAD: Wait, there's already a game like that? WHERE!?!? Let's ditch this marshmallow stand! {Homestar walks in}
HOMESTAR: Woh-ooah, looks like someone forgot their golden marshalade. I'll just take it myself...{talks to Bubs} Hey Bubs! I found this marshmallow on the ground...
BUBS: Alright, Homestar! Here is your prize! {hands Homestar a floppy disk}
HOMESTAR: Huh?
STRONG BAD: {Homestar walks by with the floppy disk.} Aw, crap!! We have to steal that marshmallow!
{Cut to Homestar at his house. When he is done eating the bag, he tries to eat the gold one, but he can't bite it.}
HOMESTAR: Ugh, I hate it when marshmallows aren't ripe enough. {Homestar tosses the golden marshmallow out the window and lands in the grass when and walk by his house on the way home.}
STRONG BAD: Awesome! My jackpot's been jackpot'd!
THE CHEAT: {The Cheat noises}
STRONG BAD: This is worth the whole town? THE WHOLE TOWN? ALRIGHT! I CAN BECOME RULER! {Cut to the hills and bushes on the outskirts of Free Country, USA. Some bushes randomly catch fire because of Strong Bad's shout. Strong Bad and The Cheat walk to the King of Town's castle.}
STRONG BAD: (To the king of town) Listen up kingy! There's a new monarchy getting started around here. I have all the proof too! {Strong Bad shows the king of town the golden marshmallow} That's right! I'm buying this county off of you!
KOT: Ooooh doo hoo hoo hoo! A marshmallow! Doo hoo hoo hoo! {He eats the marshmallow}
STRONG BAD: Aw, man. I should've know better. C'mon, The Cheat. Let's go and play that game you were talking about earlier.
{The Cheat nods in agreement. Fade to black. We see Strong Bad and the Cheat back at the concession stand, with Bubs.}
BUBS: So, that game is pretty cool, huh?
STRONG BAD: Yep. It's got the classic sidescroller, with a handful of first-person shooter and multiplayer action and a pinch of RPG.
{Coach Z comes in from left, holding some sort of bag in his right hand}
COACH Z: Whatcha doin'?
STRONG BAD: Hey Coach! What do you have there on your glowy bag?
COACH Z:Well, Storng Baerd I always take all of the moist sweat socks around the lacker room to bubs so he can warsh them.
STRONG BAD: Ewwwww! You're gross!
COACH Z: It's not Gruoass Strong Beard, After that I'm gonna warsh my underrpents
STRONG BAD:Coach, this may be delightful to you, but I just learned how to puke my pants. {Strong Bad rocks back and forth in disgust as he says this and his eyelids are lowered.} Ugh. Look I have way better things to do than hang with you losers. C'mon The Cheat, I need to go... Recover.

(Presumably, Vinnie had actually meant to type "Homestar".) Strong Bad promptly dropped a Heavy Lourde on Homsar and left him for dead. The Brothers Chaps later decided to keep Homsar as a main character, and they brought him back in an Easter egg in The House That Gave Sucky Treats and in Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 5.0, where he thanked Marzipan for the flowers she sent him while he was in the hospital. Homsar occasionally makes brief appearances in various cartoons, but most of the time he appears only in Easter eggs (and has even been referred to as the "secret guy"). (More...)
