Personal Favorites-YOURS!

Anybody wanna share what their favorite sbemails are?-LordQuackingstick 02:24, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Well, at least Simone finally responded to this talk. I now realize that, much of the time, favorites are on userpages. But at least people are willing to talk to me.-LordQuackingstick 22:28, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

New page madness

Hi there, LordQuackingstick. Nice new page you've made. If you want, I left you some tips in the edit summaries about correct formating. Notice the way I added the category and image to the page. What I would like to ask of you, since you made the page, is to go over the links on the page and add link back to Stong Bad on each one, so people will know it's there. Good jorb :). Elcool (talk)(contribs) 16:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Just a note, according to our standards, linking in the transcript should be kept to a minimum. If you can't find anywhere ti pipe the link, then you can add a new fun fact in Inside References. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 16:11, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
Oops. My stnank.-LordQuackingstick 16:11, 1 January 2007 (UTC)

Man, no one ever talks to me.

Don't feel like you gotta respond. Twoooooo can be as bad as one...-LordQuackingstick 19:27, 6 January 2007 (UTC)

Sleep

Does anybody else's compy log them off when there away from the puter too long?

No. It remembers me. Your computer probably automatically clears all cache and cookies when you close the Internet. TheYellowDart(t/c)
It's not that. It even forgets me when I leave my browser open-LordQuackingstick 02:09, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Hm. I don't know what to do for you. Ask one of the sysops, or search on the Internet. Oh, and about the "gungalor" thing. That's messed up. I'm going to start calling you "gungalor" from now on, kay? Best wishes, TheYellowDart(t/c).
Assuming you're on Windows, go to Control Panel (if you're on XP, make sure you're in Classic view) > Power Options > Advanced > Uncheck the box next to "Prompt for password when computer resumes from standby" > Hit OK. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 02:12, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Uh oh, Gungalor. You have a mac. I don't liketh the Macintosh. So I can't help you. TheYellowDart(t/c)
At least "Macintosh" is better than "Granny Smith" or "Red Delicious." It may be red, but they are definitely not the most delicious apple. Dang, what are those green ones called?-LordQuackingstick 02:21, 7 January 2007 (UTC) (ps, I'll be fine with how I am with the logout stuff we were just now talking about. Like right know. Let's see how long I can make this response!)
Green apples are the Granny Smith kind. dun dun duuun!! TheYellowDart(t/c) If you need help in the future just give me a holler.  :)
Oh, yeah? Well, how about those yellow ones? Huh? HUH?-LordQuackingstick 02:25, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
Yellow apples are usually "Golden Delicious".  :P TheYellowDart(t/c)

There are lots of types of apples in New York, like Bailey, Cortland, Empire, Jonagold, Jonathon, Liberty, Newton Pippin, and Northern Spy. TheYellowDart(t/c)
No, they were called York. As in York.-LordQuackingstick 02:38, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

It's that Clock

Is the clock set on some kinda weird time zone? It always changes the day well in advance.-LordQuackingstick 03:20, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Crazy Scrolling Thingy

Y'know those scrolling billboards? Like in redesign? Yeah, I saw one of 'em yesterday, only it was much more advanced... and had some crazy crap as part of the animation. It was at a dry cleaners. Here's what I can remember (The funny stuff starts at the sunday "hours"): OPEN HOUR MON-FRI->7AM-10PM SAT->8AM-5PM SUN->(a picture of a barn, then a running horse, then a guy playing golf. then a car driving past a stop sign roll by) WEDDING (the W starts blinking)... GOWNS (then a whole bunch of not-funny stuff rolls by) (Two anime-style children nodding) (Pan up and down of an anime-style child holding something) (Two anime-style children sledding in the snow; it is snowing. The camera pans up and down on them, and they are electrocuted twice for no apparent reason.) -LordQuackingstick 01:12, 16 January 2007 (UTC) PS: This is all true. It's probably not in order, and I didn't get it all, but it's true.

Well, I thought it was funny.-LordQuackingstick 21:09, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

"I AM ERROR" is a quote from Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. "BUY SOMETHING WILL YA" is a quote from The Legend of Zelda, and "Pardon me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" is a quote from the Grey Poupon commercials, but maybe you're shooting for something else there ;) Trey56 19:02, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
While I got the above ones myself, I used Google to find out that "SHRIEKING SUGARCUBES!" is from ?????? ????????: ???? ?????. Trey56 19:13, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
Huh, I'm surprised nobody got the ones I did already. "There's an i in meat pie" is from Shaun of the Dead (BEST MOVIE EVER). "WHAT DO YOU GET WHEN YOU MULTIPLY SIX BY NINE" is from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. —Zelinda 21:13, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
The meat pie one's right, but I'm afraid that you'll have to be more specific with the other.-LordQuackingstick 21:21, 18 January 2007 (UTC)
More specific? Well, it's from the Restaurant at the End of the Universe, isn't it? Arthur spells it with the Scrabble pieces. —Zelinda 23:42, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

HA, Give ME a cupcake, Lord! "Yes, I'm the askew police." is a classic line from the movie "Monk", right??? Hope so!!!! -WeirdAl 17:22, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Um, it's not a movie, it's an episode. And as such, I'll need the exact episode. Sorry!-LordQuackingstick 17:25, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
(in singsong voice) I Found It!!!! That qoute is from the episode called "Mr. Monk and the Marathon Man". Here are the lines....

Monk: It was askew! Sharona: So what? So what — why can't you just let people be askew? I mean, what're you, the Askew Police? Monk: Yes, I'm the Askew Police.

That WAS what you were looking for, right? -WeirdAl 22:01, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, that works. LordQuackingstick 22:03, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmmm... Lets see... I believe it's either from the 1st chapter of The Fellowship, or from some annotated text in The Hobbit. I remember reading those words.....

  • Well, I just checked my Fellowship... Not there...
  • Aaaannnddd... I just checked my Hobbit... Not there either...

For some reason, I vaguely remember... (having trouble here; my thoughts are all jumbled and I'm experiencing some sort of not-quite deja vu)... I'm gonna hafta go with a type of intro/proem from someone like Anderson or something. I'm strongly leaning towarsds one of the editions of The Hobbit, like, as a not-really-needed-but-still-sort-of-good-to-have-prerequisite to LOTR. It's definitely regarding the scene where Bilbo first resists Gandalf's request to leave the ring to Frodo or something. But, it wouldn't be part of the actual story or anything... (Unless it is in the 1st chapter of The Fellowship, and I missed it like the idiot I am...) But ya, that's my guess... Some proem to The Hobbit.

Also, is the "automatic doors" one from Jurassic Park? I hope it is... I really like that book/movie! Okay, I await your answers good sir, and in the meantime, back to H*R! kai lyn 23:51, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope. Not Jurassic park. Sorry.-LordQuackingstick 23:53, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and it's not really a proem, eaither. Not really. I wouldn't call it that.-LordQuackingstick 00:04, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

But was I on the right track... Is it sort of like a proem? Something annotated? Or perhaps a note on the text? Written by an editor, not Tolkien himself? kai lyn 00:07, 22 January 2007 (UTC) Yep. You're close. If you can get me exactly where it came from, I'll be very impressed-LordQuackingstick 00:12, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Hmm... Well, if my hunch is correct, I can't really get any more exact than I already have with my edition. Is it in The Annotated Hobbit edition? I'm guessing it's in Appendix A, Textual and Revisional Notes, maybe? kai lyn 00:52, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Well, I guess I was a little cruel... tell ya what: tune in tomorrow to find out what it's from!
Actually, if it's all the same to you, could you give it a week? I'd like to put a little research into it! TO THE LIBRARY I GO! Thanks for the challenge! kai lyn 01:02, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
All right, if you want... it's probably an obscure edition, but I don't know...-LordQuackingstick 01:04, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I figured out a few of your mangled Homestar quotes.

  • "So hoprfilly onr fsu yrvhnklobh dill vztvh up go mu adgajced thinking."
    • "So hopefully one day technology will catch up with my advanced thinking." (video games)
  • "Theres BUES IKS HIKE IJSIDE MU EAMAKL MAKINF IR rd to cjjeck."
    • "There's a big old hole inside my email, making it hard to check..." (retirement)
  • "I judt hsyr you do muvh!"
  • "Look who ythinkd hr;d vkrvbrt Fsn!"
    • "Look who thinks he's Clever Dan!" (sibbie)

Was that too much? If so, sorry. Shwoo 03:05, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Very nicely done.-LordQuackingstick 20:54, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

Uh, if this one of your Mangled H*R quotes...?

  • "Ug, did yiu jusy sah dkj g?"

means, "Uh, did you just say "parakeet"? (Strong Mad, caffeine) -WeirdAl 18:41, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Nope.-LordQuackingstick 20:17, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Am I close, though? -WeirdAl (talk · 21:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Hey there! I left you some stuffs on my talk page! About the LOTR quote; I couldn't locate it!!! I feel terrible! I've tried, like, FOUR different libraries, and none of their editions had it.... Oh well. To tell the truth, I haven't really tried too vigorously to get the right edition: right now, my focus has mainly on too much homework, and I don't feel like waiting for an interlibrary loan to kick in: they take too long. So, you can post the answer if you want to. (I feel like I failed not just you but Tolkien... *tear* ... Oh well; life goes ever on. I also feel kinda bad about so frequently being on talk pages, but there you have it...) I await your answer good sir! kai lyn 16:23, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

here's my take -

  • "Ug, did yiu jusy sah dkj g?" "Ummm... Did you just say "doing"?" (Homestar, car)
  • "Like rivjt judt noe!" - "Like right just now!" (Bubs, the chair)

Not sure about the other, though, Dr. Clash 01:41, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Eh.. I'm not sure if anyone's figured this out yet, but the milk shake one's from Animal Crossing: Wild World. I've been playing it recently and every time I go to the town hall I get that from Pelly/Phyliss. It's obnoxious. -Brightstar Shiner 02:22, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

Need Help With Anything?

Hi there, Quackingstick. I was just lurking about the wiki, starving for something to do, when I stumbled upon Recent Changes and realized how many edits you've been making today, so I thought 1) Way to go! and 2) You look busy. Since I'm bored out of my mind, would you like me to help you with whatever it is that you're doing? -Brightstar Shiner 15:44, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

I would say yes, but for the fact that I don't know what I'm doing.-LordQuackingstick 15:59, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Okay. I'll just stay here and play the Wii or something. Bye! -Brightstar Shiner 16:11, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
I haven't manage to get one yet. Darn you! Anyways, when I actually do something, I usually just press the random page button until I see somethin' that needs correctin'.-LordQuackingstick 16:12, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

How'd you do that?

Up by the article, discussion, edit, history, etc. tabs, there's a move tab. Press it and follow the instructions.-LordQuackingstick 19:57, 20 January 2007 (UTC)

Sysops

Hi, LordQuackingstick: I see you've made lots of references to becoming a sysop lately. Have you read this yet? If not, I would suggest you do so. Pay special attention to the ninth point: "Don't call us. We'll call you." I'm only telling you this because some of your recent activities might be hurting your chances for the future. Anyway, happy Wikiing! Heimstern Läufer 20:00, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I said not to look! And yes, I have read that. It just seems that, like so many other things, that's the technical, but not the real, way to become a sysop. Really, all these references to becoming a sysop is just my way of dealing with the fact that I'll probably never be one. But I'll stop if it bothers you. Sorry.-LordQuackingstick 20:03, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I just noticed that there were some sysop nominations as recently as September, so I guess I'll keep my hopes up... but not too high up.-LordQuackingstick 20:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
And I think part of the reason people want to be sysops is that it shows that people respect you. I guess.-LordQuackingstick 21:26, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
This is exactly what Heimstern was talking about; do not keep talking about becoming a sysop as it shows you in contempt. It does bother us, and many other users besides. Additionally, yes, that criteria is exactly how sysops have been and will be chosen; I compiled it from Dot com's words before I was a sysop myself [1]. Finally, the "nominations" in September were appointments and were not voted upon; but if I may say so myself, they definitely had it coming. If you quietly follow those criteria and show exceptional maturity, then in time you will be considered. — Lapper (talk) 21:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. Just forget I ever mentioned anything.-LordQuackingstick 02:51, 23 January 2007 (UTC)

The Zelda one's better, because there's an actual community, but maybe we'll be able to change that. Hardly any of the articles on the Nintendo one are done... or even started. It's very sad. Hopefully we can do sum-bo-dat.-LordQuackingstick 02:00, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
