[edit] Fun Facts
[edit] Explanations
- A motorcade is a procession of cars leading a VIP, usually a political figure, down a main road.
[edit] Trivia
- When this toon was first released, the MixMastah was loaded into the toon's Flash file, and would automatically appear at the end. Later on, the toon was modified to make the user click a link in order to reach the MixMastah in a separate page instead.
- The items Bubs grinds into sausages include (in order) a steak, a tennis ball, and a Chinese food carton.
- Marzipan is the only main character whose face is not shown in this short.
- This is the toon with the most sketches uploaded to the Sketchbook (see Inside References below).
- This is the only short with all twelve main characters in it, aside from the DVD version of the Theme Song Video.
[edit] Remarks
- Homestar doesn't say "one, two" in perfect time with his walking.
- The shower Strong Bad is in looks exactly like the one on Main Page 14.
- Bubs is making sausages that are already in their casings and split into links by using nothing but a meat grinder. In real life, one has to stuff the casings and twist them into sausages after grinding the meat.
- Strong Bad wears a shower cap even though he said in haircut that he doesn't have any hair.
- The grill makes a shutting sound even when Strong Mad opens it.
- Carol is either an electric acoustic guitar or is being amplified by equipment off-camera, so that the distortion effect can be produced.
- Even though Strong Bad is in the shower the entire time he is singing, the sound of the shower running doesn't play until the very end of the toon.
- Marzipan is playing her guitar in the key of E minor.
- The page title since the post-Flash site update was the previous page title for the next short, Ever and More, which has also inherited the page title of the following short.
[edit] Goofs
- In the page title, "Look out" is misspelled as "Lookout".
- The scoreboard is incorrect both times when the scene returns to Strong Sad and Coach Z toward the end. It should read 17 and then 20, but instead it reads 13 and then 18.
- In some shots when Strong Mad is lifting the lid off the Cheat's house, part of the reflection of his legs in the grill is cut off.
- When the Poopsmith shovels the pile of whatsit, the pieces of whatsit that are away from the pile move also.
[edit] Fixed Goofs
- When released, this toon had an "Again?" button, but clicking it would cause all the sounds from the MixMastah to continue playing with the replayed toon. The "Again?" button was removed to prevent this issue.
- Before, at one part when The King of Town is eating his marshmallows, one would appear to go under and outside his mustache when he eats it.
- In the MixMastah, Pom Pom's sound effect loop also included The Poopsmith's loop. This was fixed when the MixMastah was separated from the main toon.
- At one point, during a cut to Strong Sad and Coach Z, the score on the scoreboard changed from 12 to 2 for a single frame before changing to 13. Also, when it was 13, it just barely stuck out of the box. This has been corrected.
[edit] Inside References
- Homestar Runner's animation is based on a Weekly Sketchbook image, and was previously shown at the Georgia Tech talk. A graffiti image of Coach Z seen behind Strong Sad was also from a Sketchbook image.
- Bubs puts a tennis ball in the meat grinder, presumably leading to eating non-food items.
- The starry background in the Homsar solo was previously seen in an Easter egg in ghosts.
- This is another example of the word style.
- Striking Strong Sad's belly scores points in the Peg Strong Sad game.
- Scoring points for hitting Strong Sad's belly is also seen in A Jorb Well Done.
- Homestar Runner's walking animation is similar to Coach Z's in the video for These Peoples Try to Fade Me.
- Strong Bad's song is another instance of gender confusion, as well as singing in the wrong key.
- One of the objects that Bubs uses in his grinder is a General Tso's Chicken box.
- Homsar's hat visibly bounces off the edge of the screen during his solo, an instance of fourth wall breaks.
[edit] Real-World References
- The way Homestar walks references the iconic "Keep On Truckin'" images by R. Crumb.
- The 'Fightin' Coach Z's' logo and the 180-degree angle of Coach Z's feet resemble Notre Dame's 'Fighting Irish' logo.
- Pom Pom's money throwing is a reference to the "Makin' It Rain" technique employed by rappers.
[edit] Fast Forward
- Homestar and Coach Z start to make a similar song in an Easter egg for the email the paper before Strong Bad, unintentionally joining in, interrupts them.
- While showering, Homestar sings the "Independent Girl" song in Homestar Ruiner.

[edit] YouTube Version
- The YouTube description for this video is "The sights and sounds of Free Country USA combine to make a sweet, sweet song. Or maybe a musical mess."
- The shower doesn't make any noise after everyone but Strong Bad stops making music.
[edit] DVD Version
- The view of Marzipan playing Carol stays still compared to the shaking version.
- The MixMastah 800 feature has been removed.
- The DVD version features hidden creators' commentary. To access it, switch the DVD player's audio language selection while watching.
[edit] Commentary Transcript
(Commentary by: Mike Chapman, Matt Chapman)
MATT: {in an effeminate voice} This was fun to make! Yes, I agree, I— I enjoyed making this! Uh, The Chet—
MIKE: All right, stop talking in that dumb voice!
MATT: {laughs} Uh, what w—
MIKE: It's like that scene in Delicatessen. Right?
MATT: Yeah, but everybody in the hotel is making some kind of musics. {pause} I don't wanna ever eat any of Bubs's sausage, Mike.
MIKE: {laughs} What all do they have in there? A tennis ball—
MATT: A tennis ball. There is some steak and some Chinese food, which is good. There's an apple, which is good in sausage.
MIKE: Whoever knew that the team everybody played for was the Fightin' Coach Z's?
MATT: {laughs} I, uh— I looked up on the web— I looked up stock footage of money falling.
MIKE: {laughs}
MATT: To base that money falling on.
MIKE: That exists?
MATT: Yeah.
MIKE: Stock footage of money falling?
MATT: Mm-hmm. It wasn't even on YouTube. It was on— it was just on some stock footage. Look, he's the master of time and space! He should be singing, uh—
MIKE: Have You Seen the Ghost of John?
MATT: Yeah. {pause} Oh! {pause} I remember trying to make that scene be— where it looked like there was a camera on the end of Marzipan's guitar—
MIKE: Like just moving around?
MATT: Yeah, like people do on— in concert videos, but it looked really weird. I wasn't able to achieve... what I wanted.
MIKE: Who do you think that song is originally by that Strong Bad's singing?
MATT: I don't know. Some lady— a very independent lady.
MIKE: {laughs} From 1987, maybe?
MATT: Mm-hmm.
[edit] Fun Facts
- This is another mention of 1987.
- Matt's calling Homsar "the master of time and space" is also a reference to ghosts, prompted by the reuse of the background. Strong Sad used this phrase while in front of the starry sky in that toon, in which he partially sang Have You Seen the Ghost of John.
- Delicatessen was a 1991 film including a scene in which, like in this toon, various characters are performing some rhythmic/musical activity in sync with each other.
