Most cartoons on [[homestarrunner.com]] stick with an 11:8 aspect ratio, slightly wider than the 4:3 aspect ratio of standard definition television. Most of the earlier [[Flash]] toons listed below imitate the 11:8 aspect ratio to start and then reveal that they are widescreen over the course of the toon. "Widescreeeeeeeeeeeeen."

A widescreen aspect ratio (typically 16:9) is relatively uncommon in the Homestar Runner body of work. Since the site's inception, most cartoons have been produced at an 11:8 aspect ratio (slightly wider than the typical fullscreen 4:3 aspect ratio), as a result of The Brothers Chaps simply using the default Flash size of 550×400 pixels. DVD and podcast releases were similarly fullscreen, using letterboxing and/or pan and scan to present any widescreen toons.

In the earlier days of the site, widescreen toons were so rare that the aspect ratio would often be acknowledged in the toon itself — for instance, Strong Bad widening the frame in flashback. As the 16:9 aspect ratio has become a video standard over time, toons produced for modern video-sharing platforms like YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, or Kickstarter are typically produced in widescreen.

Games and menus have infrequently been designed in widescreen as well, typically done to fit more elements on the screen or present two blocks of content side-by-side.
