HOMESTAR RUNNER: Uh! Uh! Uh! Uh!

{TMBG start to play rock music.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {singing} I'm tellin' bad jokes now,
Really bad jokes now,
Tells a bad joke to me,
Girl!
Lady!
Why did something cross the road,
I don't know,
Make it up,
Bad jokes, come on,
I'm really good at tellin' bad jokes,
I'm tellin bad jokes now,
The ones you've heard a million times,
The kind of jokes that little kids tell ya,
Why was I stapled to the chicken?
I don't know man,
I wasn't stapled to any chicken!

FLANSBURGH: {yells} Nice belt!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Nice belt man!
Bad jokes,
Bad bad jokes,
Uh!

{They stop playing and singing.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Solid! That's pretty good, guys. Layin' it down back there.

BELLER: Nice belt!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: On the skins— {floor tom hit interrupts his train of thought} I— {floor tom hit}

BELLER: {whispers} Nice belt!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: {whispers to himself} Nice belt...? {to Beller} ...Nice belt indeed!

I don't know,

Bad jokes, come on!

Bad jokes!
Somethin' happens...
And probably all three of different ethnic backgrounds...
Maybe religious backgrounds...
It's gonna be funny...
But only to you!
Bad jokes!

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Bad jokes! Come on!
Knock knock!
Who's there?

JOHN FLANSBURGH: {in background} Who's there?

HOMESTAR RUNNER: I dunno, man!
A bad joke!
Gimme—gimme some spice!
Gimme some sugar spice! Ow!

{Marty Beller plays a drum solo, and there is a short instrumental break.}

HOMESTAR RUNNER: Oh, we tellin' bad jokes now!
{in a falsetto voice} We tellin' bad jokes now!
{back to normal voice} We always tellin' bad jokes!
{talking with the music} I told a good joke once...
I had the audience in the palm of my hand!
{The Johns start chanting "Jokes!" in the background.}
They was laughin'...
They was laughin' like there was no tomorrow!
{The Johns start forced-laughing.}
I can't remember the punch line...
But I slayed 'em, I killed 'em.
I knocked 'em dead!

[edit] Fun Facts

  • The "Bad Jokes" in the song reference the following jokes:
    • Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?
      A: To get to the other side!
    • Q: Why did the {any animal} cross the road?
      A: Because it was stapled to the chicken!
    • Q: What did zero say to eight?
      A: "Nice belt."
  • The extra jokes referenced in the DVD version are vague.
    • "Some people walk into a bar..." references "bar jokes", which can range broadly.
    • "Somethin' happens... And all three of different ethnic backgrounds... Maybe religious backgrounds..." references a commonly used setup for an ethnic/religious joke, where each takes a different course of action.
    • "Knock knock... Who's there?" references knock-knock jokes, which can also range broadly.
  • This is the first puppet toon in which The Cheat does not appear.
  • This song seems to be loosely based on "Bad Jokes" by English comedian Lenny Henry, which has a similar structure and funky musical style.
