If you have an answer to my contest, post it here. Thanks. — Defender1031*Talk 03:42, 5 August 2007 (UTC)

This is just a guess, but is it Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl? Trey56 04:48, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
It is indeed! — Defender1031*Talk 04:50, 5 August 2007 (UTC)
Yay! Ooh, and now that I'm allowed to Google it, I see it appears on Wikipedia:Dante and his Divine Comedy in popular culture... Trey56

Hey I'm complaining. I got the pirates line the moment you said it to me online, and you know it. You asked the question in response to something I wrote. I also got all your other quotes instantly. Your latest one for example is from that Buzz movie, where Buzz's partner tells him it, the blank part is Zurg. I expect you to correct your list of winner, or at least give me a lifetime achievement award on the subject. -Insane Coder 89.139.31.118 05:14, 19 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Apology

Well, I don't appreciate any of this, either, even though I'm most likely the one that started it. Like I said, I have autism and I'm not lying (however you spell that word). Not being able to control my anger is a "side effect." Now, I know you're going to say that what I just said has nothing to do with this, but it does. I know people don't believe me and I'm sorry if I offended you, but I see no rules about anything anywhere, because of the obviously stupid person that I am. I know I'm going to be labeled as an idiot now, so I'm afraid to make an account and put the name "Taiya" up anywhere. I listened again to caffeine and I still don't hear anything. The quote of the week was from a later part in the email, and I probably won't believe the "real thing" any time soon. Oh, well. I don't care if anyone hates me. I just wanted to help the Homestar universe because I suck at doing anything else.

[edit] Deleting Talk Pages

"i'm pretty sure that it's not good form to just delete a talk page like that without at least creating an archive... (someone correct me if i'm wrong)"

Please read user space. OptimisticFool 13:51, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, Phlip set me straight. — Defender1031*Talk 13:53, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Revert warring

DeFender, you say "stop revert warring", yet you also were revert warring. Does that seem right to you? If you felt talk page discussion was so important, why didn't you initiate it? To borrow Smokey the Bear's phrase, "Only YOU can prevent edit wars." Heimstern Läufer 18:15, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

I was reverting because the fact was originally written like that, and i was saying to discuss it before just removing it. Now that I think about it, you're right, I should probably have just let it go, discussed it, and let it be resolved, after all, does it really matter if it's on the page during the discussion, as long as it ends up the way the community decides it should? I apologize, and will try to be less agressive in the future. — Defender1031*Talk 18:33, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hey, hey, hey

i haven't checked out my userpage for like a month, so i was just poking around and saw your "i'm so stealing you shomer shabbat box" comment so naturally, i click your username instead of finishing my essay. so what do i find on your page? sweet, sweet fame. recognition on the same list as some of the wikiest big shots on the wiki.... i'll try to keep the kavod from getting to my head. much love, TheDude 03:49, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Haha... cool. (Though my cool user list isn't really so much kavod... it's more just gashmius... But it's fun so it's all good.) — Defender1031*Talk 06:46, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Undoing legitimate edits

If you're going to undo an edit that looks suspicious but that might turn out to be correct (like this), please leave a note on the original editor's talk page or on a high-visibility talk page informing someone of what action you took, in case it turns out the edit was indeed legitimate and should not have been reverted (as was the case here). Something like, "Hey, I noticed you made X important change to such-and-such page. What was your basis for this edit?" Thanks, and keep on tranglin'. — It's dot com 03:26, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] To Answer Your Question

Regarding my removal of all evil acts from Strong Bad Smiling, there was a discussion a few months ago over whether that gag was notable since his usual personality is not the direct opposite of happy (like Strong Sad). It was suggested on the talk page that the notablility would be improved by removing times he smiled because he did something bad. The question I was referring to in my headline was that "why?" in your edit summary. I apologize if I am too vague. You can say your opinion on the SB Smiling talk page. Bad Bad Guy 19:51, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

actions speak louder than words. — Defender1031*Talk 20:17, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beetlejuice/Betelgeuse

I was going to change this, but I see you reverted this change once, so I figured I'd bring it up with you first. According to the wikipedia article, the character is actually spelled like the star (ie "Betelgeuse") despite the fact the title is spelled differently. But I can see this could be confusing - most people more easily recognize the title spelling, so... should it just be left, though it's technically incorrect? Would you mind if it was changed back?Farmboyjad 04:32, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Leave it, I actually think wikipedia is wrong, why would the title character of a movie's name be spelled differently than the name of the movie itself? And i just read the wikipedia article, it makes no mention of the spelling, just always calls him "beetlejuice". Finally, this is the sort of thing for the talk page of an article itself, not my personal talk page. — Defender1031*Talk 12:18, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

ok, i'm pretty new to the whole wiki thing. Just so you don't have to keep messaging me, is there some page that'll show me what's ok and what's not to do?
Thanks, Defender-man!
AwkwardFire 07:03, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

Oh, you weren't doing anything wrong there. Copying other people's userboxes is fine. I was merely commenting ho i noticed you had read my page that's all. As for what to do and what not to do, check the links in the first post on your talk page, those are a great place to start. — Defender1031*Talk 07:05, 10 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] HS & TC

Hey Defender1031. Would ya mind if Homestar and The Cheat get along? Katonator 3000 03:31, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Umm... I'm not sure I know what you mean... But i think you're asking if you can make a relationship page about HS and TC, and that's got nothing to do with me, i don't do much by way of those pages, i'm just the guy who wrote the script to make that cool chart. Consider any of those pages to be like any other page on the wiki, all that chart means is that someone wnated an easy way to organize that info, and that that chart doesn't really belong in the main namespace, so i put it in my own. — Defender1031*Talk 03:35, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Careless reverting

DeFender1031: This is ridiculous. (I am also leaving the same message to SamFisher1022 and Sam the Man.) As established editors I believe you handled poorly the welcoming of this user. Instead of providing a more welcoming and inviting message, you have a quick edit war of sorts in someone else's user talk page. Imagine how a new user would feel seeing this kind of mysterious edit summary arguments going on. This sort of behavior could easily turn away prospective editors (good or not so much). I think in general we've established a bad habit of quick reverts with a simple edit summary and no explanation. Friendly but informative notices to less established users should be the norm, not the exception. --Stux 20:08, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oh, crap and such

I know in this particular case it's a little silly, but we should nonetheless endeavor to not call user contributions "crap" whenever possible. Even when a user happens to be a complete and utter moron, we should extend every courtesy possible to them and never let on that we agree they are unfit for duty, know what I mean? It's "taking the high road". Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 04:13, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Using Show Preview

Hello DeFender1031, I see that you have made several consecutive edits to the same page. I want to point out the Show Preview button. It's right next to the Save Page button when you edit. You should use it whenever you are making a lot of experimental edits, for example when you are trying to get formatting right. Using the Show Preview button is quicker and easier than saving and clicking "edit" again, and will keep recent changes and page histories from being flooded. Thanks,  Loafing 21:55, 11 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] TGS14 Transcript

In the future, please replace an "under construction" template with a "section stub" template if you decide you do not want to finish the transcript (as seen in Teen_Girl_Squad_Issue_14). Actually, we tend not to put those templates on new toon pages, owing to the fact that they are going to be looked over and fixed, but i appreciate your zelousness in trying to make sure what you think is supposed to be done gets done. — Defender1031*Talk 12:33, 12 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] confused big time

uhh... are you confusing me with YK? I made that template, and i want your opinion on it. my tolerance for crap like this isn't as high as it was, say, a month ago. even though it's the summer months all up ons us, i have poison ivy rashes and a friggin painful sunburn and they both cause me crap. i don't need more than two promblems. so fine, destroy three hours of my work for all i care. i just don't put up with crud crap like that much anymore.

I have to get a shot for it too

No i am not. When i was talking to you, i was talking to you, when i was talking to him i was talking to him. And please don't take it personally, remember, i was defending the page saying that it should be judged on its merits, remember? — Defender1031*Talk 04:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
Michael, Defender is not destroying your work. He has no power to do so, as I've no doubt he would affirm. If your work is deleted, it will be because the community, not Defender, decides that it is not needed. Furthermore, I don't appreciate the cut of your jib. While I know it's frustrating to see your work nominated for deletion, replying by being impatient and rude isn't OK. In particular, your line "i just don't put up with crud crap like that much anymore" sounds a bit like a threat to me. You've been told several times not to be disruptive, and quite honestly, it's kind of trying my patience at this point. Heimstern Läufer 04:47, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] #8 on your bottom 10

You are correct in saying that a Kilobyte contains 1024, but the reason your 200GB drive is only 189GB is because of the file structure. If you format it as NTSF (XPs standard I think) it's going to take quite a chunk away and allocate that as file meta-data. So you don't get to directly write to that part of the drive. If you formatted it in, say, Fat16 you'd probably get an additional Gig or two because of the way the file tables are stored. Thus, the OS will report the number of bytes available for the user to write to.

Ah, true that the filesystem takes up space. I should measure it raw and see. I bet you it's still gonna be less than 200 though. — Defender1031*Talk 20:50, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding j2n4me

To explain what was probably meant here, the user in question could not log in because user names beginning with lowercase letters do not work any more (they used to though). Apparently, j2n wanted to blank his own page (beats me why). --Jay (Talk) 18:43, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I got that part. I didn't get the gibberish about being 13 and google and whatnot. And unless he goes through the proper channels of having his name changed to the uppercase then logging in, we can't be sure it's him. I see no problem with my revert. — Defender1031*Talk 18:45, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
He probably did a Google search for his name and found the (essentially abandoned) account here. And I never said what you did was wrong, I was explaining because you said you didn't understand. --Jay (Talk) 18:49, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Oh... well then I should be perfectly safe... Polymascotfoa— Defender1031*Talk 18:54, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
The only thing i would have done differently would be to link to the name change page. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:02, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] They're for reals

I have the Wii version, and both of those mistakes are genuine, Wii-hating anonny notwithstanding. --Jay (Talk) 16:16, 22 August 2008 (UTC)

(PS. If you were asking if they were Wii-specific, I don't know. --Jay (Talk) 16:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC))
Indeed that WAS my problem, and I doubted it because of the anonny's attitude. — Defender1031*Talk 17:35, 23 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Crititcising other users

Does your comment to the anony about not saying what his CAPTCHA says really worth commenting about? Have you ever heard someone say that they dislike others saying what their CAPTCHA was? It really just sounded to me like you wanted to criticise what another guy is doing just for the fun of it (though I'm sure that wasn't really why). Homestar-Winner (talk) 23:19, 7 September 2008 (UTC)

Yes, and the anonny even agreed with me. I wasn't trying to criticize, just trying to help the anonny not to annoy people in the nicest way possible. And the only person i criticize for fun is my roommate, and only because he deserves it. ;) — Defender1031*Talk 23:23, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
*Edit conflict'd!* On my side, no, I haven't really read anything about any users finding it annoying. But hey, Defender has a point, it really is a little unnecessary anyway. Especially since my last comment on the CAPTCHA was a little long. I find it a little funny that you guys are calling me "Anony", ha!--68.92.250.78 23:27, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
well, you don't have an account yet, so you're basically the anonny. (You should SOOO take that as your user name when you sign up...) — Defender1031*Talk 23:33, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
I already have two in mind, a usual nickname I go by (Bob The Potato, nobody steal this...). I might choose LTWFTW, for the Homestar Runner reference in it. But, since I have been doing anonymous contributions for about a year by now, that name in fact does work...now I'm confused on what to use where. Ha! --68.92.250.78 23:39, 7 September 2008 (UTC)
