Hmmm, I don't think we should update this every week. Or even put it in the article. If it's ever the most viewed video, then that would definitely be worth a mention. Otherwise, it'd be too detailed. Loafing 04:12, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
homestarrunnerdotcom
LTWFTW just dropping by to inform you guys that there's an official Homestar Runner Youtube account now: http://www.youtube.com/user/homestarrunnerdotcom The reason I'm assuming it's official is because other Homestar cartoons contain a notice stating the video contains content belonging to that account, and it also has DVD-quality versions of the episodes. I put something up on the page for it, but I don't know any of this crazy editing stuff you guys do so I'll just let you all figure it out. 68.192.238.57 05:49, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- I don't see anything to suggest that that channel is official... sure, they got the name, but anyone could register that name. Anyone who's bought the DVDs would be able to upload DVD quality clips, and there's nothing forcing them to mention in the descriptions that they're not the creators. Really, unless we hear something from TBC themselves (say if they link to it on the website or something) then there's not much reason to think that it's official as yet... --phlip TC 06:03, 25 July 2009 (UTC)
- The plot thickens... as of September 2nd, a video for independent has been posted on the homestarrunnerdotcom YouTube channel - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjwlrvcKcfI - and it's edited to DVD-style format. Remarkably, the exchange about the monitor wallpaper with the Cheat has been removed, and it has a completely different closing, with the Compé-per displaying "the end." along with the virtual The Paper sound. --Kyojikasshu 02:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would suggest that with the latest posting, the account is at least semi-official. wbwolf (t | ed) 03:54, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- I would have disagreed and called it official, because how, and who, could/would we get something like this leaked online? I mean, this is Homestar Runner. But, we have a few things that have changed from the original toon that make no sense to why they were changed. —Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 04:20, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, I agree... I think this can definitely be called at least tentatively official now... certainly enough to start treating it as official and linking to it on articles. I'd personally hold back on calling it absolutely confirmed until the next DVD comes out and we can compare this YouTube clip with the DVD version of independent... but I think we have enough confirmation to start linking to the videos. --phlip TC 04:27, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

- Discussion moved from Talk:Main Page
I noticed that Youtube links have been appearing on various Strong Bad Emails. Do we now know that it is TBC? That'sBupkis! 11:58, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- There's discussion on that [here]. The consensus there is (so far as I can tell) "likely, but not certain". I do think adding links is a shade preemptive, though... --Belthazar 12:03, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Yeah, with the release of the edited independent video, there's only three possibilities I can think of... (1) The channel is run by TBC, (2) The channel is run by a fan who can do a really good Strong Bad impression and has decent video editing skills, (3) TBC have released this edited version elsewhere, and a fan has re-uploaded it to YouTube... but noone on the wiki has seen the original. Both options 2 and 3 seem unlikely... 2 will be ruled out eventually if the next sbemail DVD comes out and independent is edited the same as, or at least similarly to, this video. Really, we can't say we're sure until if/when we hear it from TBC, over a medium we know they have control of (like the site, or a DVD commentary or something), but I think it's likely enough now to start linking to it. --phlip TC 12:29, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Also, if the altered ending of independent wasn't enüff prüf, I'd like to point out that the YouTube versions of independent and Donut Unto Others have significantly better sound quality than those on the site. As far as I know, it would be impossible for a fan to access the original full-quality sound files of those toons, even with a decompiler. Omnisweater. 16:07, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Wait, Omnisweater, you should use extlinks. I'll add something to the template. —Soiled Bargains (talk|ctrb) 18:17, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- Oh, I just noticed this discussion. I had only seen Talk:YouTube#homestarrunnerdotcom until now. Sorry Omnisweater, it was my impression this matter was still unresolved. (I think these two discussions should be merged into one.) Anywho, I also agree that a template like {{extlinks}} should be used for linking. Nevertheless, I'd personally rather wait till the toon in question comes out on DVD before we can call this myth "confirmed". Although, if used in a template, the template can just be modified to show nothing if it turns out to be some kind of hoax. --Stux 18:27, 5 September 2009 (UTC)
- But even if TBC put the website version of independent on the DVD, would that really be enough to call it a hoax? There would still be the matter of the perfect editing, voice acting, and above all, sound quality (I'm pretty sure there's no way to fake that. Correct me if I'm wrong though). To me, the YouTube version of independent seems like an earlier version, and if that's true, it's unlikely that TBC will use it on the DVD. Omnisweater. 18:40, 5 September 2009 (UTC)

I just noticed that the description for Fall Float Parade on YouTube reads: "It's the 4Tst Annual Fall Float Parade in Strong Badia!", which is odd, considering that The Brothers Chaps have made a point of explaining that Free Country, USA is not synonymous with Strong Badia. While this certainly doesn't completely undermine the previous evidence that the channel is TBC's, it does sort of suggest illegitimacy. It's dot com, could you tell us what "unequivocal" evidence you have that the channel is official? Besides this, it might also be a good thing to include in the article. Omnisweater. 20:53, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
- Guy who originally posted this a few months ago here, I'll just clarify why I initially said it was official. Reuploaded videos of the Trogdor cartoon and othersuch famous H*R cartoons posted by OTHER Youtube accounts had a notice reading "Content in this video belongs to Homestarrunnerdotcom" and linked to the Youtube channel. Some random shmo can't exactly get Youtube to do that, so my conclusion was that this was official. The DVD quality versions of as-of-writing un-DVD'd cartoons should be proof enough by now too, but yeah. Sorry for the many months of confusion. 68.192.238.57 05:36, 20 December 2009 (UTC)
- Omnisweater: The Bros. Chaps are many things. Awexome, creative, and clever, for example. But they're not perfect. Everyone makes misteaks. One little mistake does not prove that the user name is fake. --Jay (Gobble) 10:01, 20 December 2009 (UTC)

Underscores
Right now video links that begin with underscores (since Mediawiki automatically converts them to spaces and then deletes them) make it difficult to link to youtube videos. I would guess that eventually we'll be able to overcome this technical hurdle. When that happens it would be ideal to go back and fix all of these problematic links. Finding these pages will likely be non-trivial. To that end I've created a page that can be used to keep track of these pages. If you run across problems such as these please add a link to that page. Thanks! --Stux 00:10, 14 October 2009 (UTC)
- I have implemented a solution to this problem. The system will no longer strip leading/multiple/trailing underscores from YouTube links. — It's dot com 21:35, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- That's awesome! You rock, Dot com! Any chance something similar could be implemented to handle underscore issues in Twitter handles? Lira (talk) 23:46, 26 January 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks Dot com for resolving the underscore issues! It's nice to see that we won't be encumbered by that problem anymore. I was hoping that the templates could be kept for historical purposes and marked as such instead of being deleted. As for the twitter issue, it looks like that's still a thing. I found the following link from this tweet: Twitter:__Beaches__. I'll leave it here so it can be used as reference and for testing. Thanks again Dot com! --Stux 07:52, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Homestarrunguy
I found this account, it seems to only post DVD exclusives; including the FBA start-up screens of each DVD. It's not mine but still. Should we add it?
- It's unofficial, unlike all the other channels on this page. -- Super Martyo boing! 02:02, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Edit conflict! This page is only for official TBC userpages, which Homestarrunguy isn't, as evidenced by this:
Unfortunately, no. I am ordering that DVD later this year. It's the only one I don't have.
- You can find that comment on the last page of his comments section. StrongAwesome 02:04, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
- Ok, but can we at least put links to his videos? It would help with external links of DVD exclusives.
- Well, we shouldn't be encouraging people who break the FBI warning... -- Super Martyo boing! 01:12, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- Actually, in his upload of family resemblence the easter egg plays automatically kinda like another toon we know.
- Just edited. Also, there are no Easter eggs played automatically in the official YouTube version of "independent", unless you count the dialogue being slightly different. We should not include it on this Wiki. --Jay (Gobble) 02:57, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
- KINDA like independent. I didn't mean the easter egg, i meant it was edited.

I know he's not the Brothers Chaps or is, as far as I know, in any way affiliated with them, but he's actually uploaded almost every toon on H*R. Should he be noted? RickTommy (edits) 01:11, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

homestarrunnerdotcom banner Easter egg
The banner at https://www.youtube.com/user/homestarrunnerdotcom contains an Easter egg. Normally you see the cropped version, but if you fiddle with the code you can see the uncropped version. I figure we should add this to the article somewhere (and possibly refactor the article to make the part about homestarrunnerdotcom be listed first and most prominently). I've gone ahead and uploaded the files to the wiki, as you can see. (Disclosure: I did not find this myself.) — It's dot com 23:12, 10 November 2014 (UTC)
Might have found date of Banner/icon update
I went digging through my chatlogs and found that the banner may have been updated as early as September 25th last year. I'm not sure if this information could be used here, but there's that. {{User:Ted/sig}} 15:49, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- Probably would be best if we had the exact date as opposed to an estimate. But, at least we know the date of addition can't be later than 9/25/14. Also, fix your sig, yo. - Catjaz63 16:23, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure that is the exact date, though... I remember messaging my sister that day... Also, I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong with my sig, I followed the guide exactly. {{User:Ted/sig}} 17:38, 5 April 2015 (UTC)
Coach Z Vevo?
No idea if it's offical/real... but there's a coach Z vevo. https://www.youtube.com/user/CoachZVEVO/
- Argument for it being official:
- It has the highest quality version of These peoples try to fade me we've seen.
- Argument for it being real:
- It [apparently] has the vevo logo in the lower right corner and properly vevo-stamped thumbnails. Not sure if they are real though.
- Argument for it being unofficial:
- It's not too difficult to make that higher quality version of the song if you have the CD and a good editing program.
- Argument for it being fake:
- The name of the channel is "CoachZVEV0". Like, with a zero at the end.
- Conclusion: Likely fake and unofficial, but made by peoples with way too much time on their hands. -- ■■ PURPLE Φ ORNAMENT ■■ 10:52, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
One more point to consider: It does have the youtube "verified" indicator. I'm not saying that convinces me or anything, but it's something worth noting. — Defender1031*Talk 13:47, 9 June 2015 (UTC)- What? No it doesn't! Also, one more point to consider, it subscribed to a channel called "Miles" 7 months ago, whom has no connection to Homestar Runner or the body of work in any fashion. It is fan-made and that will be my solid opinion. - Catjaz63 17:20, 9 June 2015 (UTC)
- Ah, you're right. I mistook the verified icon for Vevo on the "Featured Channels" as one for this channel. Woops. — Defender1031*Talk 17:28, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Isolate homestarrunnerdotcom
At the time that this page was made, homestarrunnerdotcom wasn't officially confirmed to be related to the website officially, but the other smaller easter-egg-videos and channels were. However, these smaller one-off Youtube channels are added in along with the homestarrunnerdotcom Youtube channel, which was fine at the time this was made. However, now that they've officially integrated the Youtube channel into the Homestar Runner experience, do you think it'd be best to split this page and create a seperate page devoted solely to the homestarrunnerdotcom Youtube channel? It would reduce and clutter and would give it more of a focus compared to being cluttered with the other channels that were for one-off jokes or smaller videos. - Catjaz63 02:20, 4 July 2015 (UTC)
- Yeah... that's a pretty grood idea. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 01:02, 7 October 2016 (UTC)
- It's a similar situation to the original Twitter page being about @ronginald rather than @StrongBadActual. I'd lean towards homestarrunnerdotcom having a page separate from the other accounts, possibly with a listing similar to the one currently on the sandbox. DEI

What if instead of creating a new page, we just rewrite this page to be about homestarrunnerdotcom, and include the other accounts at the bottom somewhere? That way, h*rdotcom would have its own page, but all three accounts would still be here. I'd be fine with either option. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:43, 26 August 2017 (UTC)

Descriptions in Trivia
The descriptions for toons should be noted somewhere on their page. I'm thinking the Trivia section, since that's where Podstar Runner descriptions are. So far, I'm pretty sure Skills of an Artist is the only page with YouTube descriptions, and there's no reason to include them there if we don't include them anywhere else. Plus, Podstar Runner descriptions are documented, so we should be consistent and document these as well. Gfdgsgxgzgdrc 05:38, 26 August 2017 (UTC)
