I believe the Strong Bad E-mails are now all updated with filmographies. If someone would like to double check, that'd be cool. - Grumblebaker [9 Oct '04 00:27 CDT]

I have made the Category: Strong Bad Email a sub-cat of the Strong Bad Filmography. This is much more logical and reduces clutter in the Category:Strong Bad Filmography. This means all emails should be categorized as email only and not directly in the filmography. Drhaggis 09:44, 10 Oct 2004 (MST)

-There is one SBemail without SB. If that is more confusing than having 100+ items in the Category:Strong Bad Email AND those same 100+ items duplicated in the Category: Strong Bad Filmography than so be it. I just fixed cast lists in all the main pages. Should these be put in filmography categories? I can't find any other places where the cast lists / filmographies are not finished. Aurora Szalinski 15:08, 2 Mar 2005 (MST)

Went ahead and did this. Do we need filmographies for all minor characters? I noticed a few for characters which only appear in one or two places (Blue Laser Babies, Yello Dello) but I am not sure if this is standard.
Good question, and thanks for asking. We generally do not use cat filographies for minor characters. For example, articles like General Tso's Chicken or The Grape Fairie just have a listing in the article of appearances. -- Tom 09:20, 3 Mar 2005 (MST)

We need someone (I might do it later today) to go through our projects and figure out which ones are done and precisely where work still requires completion. It would be great to have little charts under each project so people know right where to go.

As an example, for a project involving Strong Bad Emails:

  • Complete: 1-95, 103, 116
  • Incomplete: 96-102, 104-115

This gets a little harder for most of our projects because they aren't limited to any one category of pages on our wiki. We should come up with a unified, standardized way of notating which pages on the wiki have been done. Ideas? — wikisig.gif Joey (talk·edits) 09:24, 26 Oct 2004 (MST)

At the bottom of each "Place" page, there should be a section to show which toons the place appears in. The toons are mostly mentioned in the paragraph, anyway, but not always.

I've noticed since the change to the new server that many/all of the special characters in articles have been lost. They appear to me as a question mark (?) instead of the correct character. Is this true for everyone? If so, we should make a project for fixing them. -- Tom 08:25, 7 Mar 2005 (MST)

Does anyone else think that 'Date' should be changed to 'Release Date'? I think 'Date' leaves something to be desired, especially with 'Running Time' not simply called 'Time'. How about we keep this page for more technical wiki projects, and have, say, HRWiki:The Stick for wiki discussion that doesn't really fit the notion of a "project". Like the questions and comments that often get dumped on, say, Talk:Main Page. Many entries use past tense when retelling a fact, for example:

In for kids, Homsar's letter of the day was "G". (G)

That's wrong (for example, see [the literary present]). Do you think it's worth a project to correct these mistakes by either hammering was and were in the search bar or editing them when stumbled upon?

Second, if we start this project, should we consider comparing past tense on the h*r-timeline as wrong?

At 1:30, Homsar shuffled from left to right, but later, he's on the left side again (in-toon)
In The Luau, Homestar's star is slightly off, although it was centered in past toons. (comparing toons)

Strictly speaking, that's wrong.

I'm not quite sure I followed your examples, but I do have this comment: I think we use past tense sometimes because we, er, blur the line between fanstasy and reality (that is, we tend to look at the events of FCUSA as history, not literature). — It's dot com 01:53, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, that's what I covered in my second point, that's fine to me. But back to my first example. Sorry, if it's unclear, I will try again: Stating that Homsar's letter of the day was "G" is wrong, because it still is. You can go and view the toon again and again. I personally don't think it necessary. The reason that table had been placed there was that there had been an inordinate amount of comments simply talking about whether one liked the cartoon or hated it. Nothing else. This would have inundated the talk page and eclipsed legitimate talk. This is usually not the case for the other toons, and I see nothing wrong with a minor "I liked this toon" comment here and there, as it sometimes happens. --Stux 23:48, 21 July 2006 (UTC)

LOL, Not really, but it's mainly cuz i haven't been paying much attention to such posts. But posting that notice would also make comments like "I think the part where Strong Bad calls the cordless mouse a bar of soap is genious" (not a real comment I just made it up), and that being the end of that thread, disallowed. Most of the rules of this wiki and wikipedia in general, try to be as freeform and liberal as possible, because its maintainers feel people will, in general, exercise wisdom and restraint in their edits. When they do not, of course rules are applied (for a good example see this discussion) even if with a little reluctance. For that one article the comments were a problem, and action had to be taken, but for the rest of the wiki they are not (and I hope it stays that way), and as such I personally see no need to take drastic action. --Stux 19:24, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image Summaries

So i've been noticing a lot that images on the wiki are uploaded with totally unhelpful summaries and then just left there like that. I've seen things like "woah" and "this is weird" and my personal favorite "An image. You'll see what it's for." Summaries that are not descriptive of who and what is in the image, as well as what's going on and what toon it's from make it nearly impossible to search for images. There have been many times that i either need a specific image that is the sort of thing we'd already have up on the wiki, or see an image get uploaded that is probably a duplicate, and i just couldn't find the image because the summaries are so bad. Therefore, I propose we:

  1. Write up a well thought out guideline on how to summarize images, either on one of our existing policy pages or its own page, if there isn't one already
  2. Initiate a project to systematically go through the images and give them summaries based on the aforementioned policy
  3. Get people to join said project
  4. Initiate a committee to monitor new image uploads and correct summaries where needed
  5. Get people to join said committee
  6. Drop my grapes
  7. Uncover that cheat
  8. And finally, not... pidgeons.

What are people's thoughts on such a plan? Or at least the first 5? — Defender1031*Talk 23:33, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Committees are just things people join; they don't actually do anything. The committees we currently have testify to this. I'm not saying organizing a project and recruiting specific people to help is a bad idea. I'm just saying that creating a standing committee doesn't work in the long term on a wiki our size. — It's dot com 23:53, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Use of this feature requires the ability to add files to the extensions folder and edit LocalSettings.php and pages in the MediaWiki namespace. I don't know whether this is possible for run-of-the-mill wikis at Wikia. — It's dot com 20:34, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
Being the head admin (and only contributor) at a mostly failed wikia wiki, i can definitively say that only the wikia staff have access to the source code... you could of course, ask THEM to add the extension. — Defender1031*Talk 20:36, 18 May 2009 (UTC)
All right, I'm a sysop/admin at the other wiki, and I created a header at "MediaWiki:Header-sandbox". It still does nothing. I also created one at "MediaWiki:Header-Sandbox", and still nothing. It says that that's what you have to do, so you might want to update that page, IDC. Unless I'm reading it wrong. Out of curiosity, though, what's your wiki, DeFender? You clearly didn't understand a word that was just said. It says that an extension needs to be added to mediawiki before that will work, and only the wikia staff can do that. And I am 100% sure that my wiki is nothing that would interest you. — Defender1031*Talk 20:43, 18 May 2009 (UTC)

I should just go ahead and start this. Common Sense should not be explained when it is "too common" (IE: Innards are where you go when you get eaten.) In that respect, you can alto have the project deal with the opposite: When the toon itself explains something that should be common sense (IE: Under Construction.) [edit] Temp-uh-late Request

I have no idea how to make a template or if it's in my privileges, so I came here. Can you make some sort of template for articles with unknown information (ex. this article contains unknown information,you can help the wiki by getting a time machine), it really bothers me that we know so little about dates before 2001 and stuff. I would help compile pages that could use it, for example Scroll Button Songs is missing several dates and a few sounds clips. Thanks! Oh, and it would use this picture

I would find a template that closely matches how you want it to look and then copy and paste the code into a new template page (which is just a page in the Template namespace, which anyone can create). Copy that code into a new page Template:templatename. Pick a name that's descriptive yet short and simple. Replace the wording and image in the appropriate spots. Don't use a weird font. The box colors are controlled by the border and background attributes (specifically the part after the number signs). Use show preview. If you get stuck save the page and someone will help you.
