[edit] Head on fire trick

I found a glitch: if you click and drag charecters the fire will stay and when you scroll over to downloads his head will fall of and when it comes back his head is still on fire yet it is not black

um......who are you? i can't understand a word you are saying. please make some sense. Seriously 18:28, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
A lot of people have tried to add this one over the months and years. Why not put it on the page? It's interesting and takes a specific mouse combination to make it work. By including this tidbit on the page, we might even be encouraging more people to check out the page on the official site. — It's dot com 21:34, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I know, and I was the one who JUST added it. Firebird, why did you delete it? (Oh, and it wasn't a "Repeat Violation", the first one was someone else. 151.197.118.98(also known as Eric55673) 21:37, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

I think he's deleting them because it's a click-and-drag glitch, which plagues many of the main pages. I remember putting a lot of them on a long time ago, only to have them removed at a later day. Granted, this one has more unique results than many, but it's still another click-and-drag glitch. - Joshua 21:45, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I don't even think that it's that notable. If we allow this, we have to allow click-and-drag Flash artifacts on all the other Main Pages. --Jay (Talk) 22:07, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Addendum: for instance, on Main Page 11, it's possible to get Strong Bad (without Homestar) in front of Homestar's backdrop. Is that somehow less notable? Where do we draw the line? --Jay (Talk) 22:12, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
That's a good question. My point is that we should draw a new line, one where this fact and the one you just mentioned would be noted. This is a knowledge base that should encompass everything, and people who don't know about the tricks think they're cool when they find out about them. Since there's no question the information is true, is there no place for it anywhere on the site? — It's dot com 22:16, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Since I'm newer than you fellows, I hope you don't mind my asking, but why are Flash artifacts considered to not be eligible as Fun Facts? Is there a good reason? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

From HRWiki:Standards:
Glitches
Similar to Goofs, but limited to mistakes in the Flash software. NOTE: Flash byproducts are NOT allowed, unless they note something humorous or extra. A Flash byproduct is something odd or strange found by manipulating the Flash file, either by watching the .swf file directly, or by right-clicking and using the playback options. This can include missing parts of characters, different things "outside the wall", animations continuing while paused, etc. (See The FAQ for more information).
It seems to me that there is wiggle room in there to include certain Flash artifacts if enough people think they're funny or interesting. — It's dot com 22:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
This is long and it will probably be edit-conflicted, but oh well. Flash artifacts fall into three main categories that I'm aware of: click-and-drag, .swf functions, and "things outside the frame".
Things outside the frame are only worth mentioning when something unexpected IS there, but not when something expected is NOT (for instance, characters lose limbs ALL THE TIME when those limbs are otherwise outside of the frame.) A good example of something unexpected existing outside the frame would be in Senorial Day (one Homestar has a moustache) and garage sale (there are some extra items outside the frame, some of which never appear within the frame itself.)
.swf functions mean right-clicking on certain 'toons (most newer 'toons have be be watched as the .swf file itself to do this) and selecting "Play" or somesuch. This usually just pauses a 'toon, but sometimes a sound will continue in the background, Easter eggs will be played when they shouldn't be, and they especially interfere with games. However, this only happens because you're interfering with its usual running process.
Click-and-drag is pretty generic in and of itself, and it's a glitch in Flash, not a mistake on the behalf of TBC. Basically, it works like this: take any instance where dragging your mouse over an item would cause something to appear, and that something doesn't disappear until you move the mouse away (Main Pages work best, but there are sometimes instances when it works in 'toons. For instance, the "Encore" at the end of rock opera works.) Move the mouse over it, hold the mouse button down, and move the mouse away. The item will remain there.
Sometimes the Main Page buttons are mutually contradictory. This causes extra oddities from click-and-drag artifacts, but again, this is universal among all applicable Main Pages. For instance, you can get a flame over the pale-faced Tofu Homestar, or Strong Bad in front of Homestar's backdrop. I can probably come up with more mutually contradictory Main Page button oddities if I try. --Jay (Talk) 22:29, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
I think it is interesting enough to stay. If a lot of people have been adding it, than they must think so too. Has Matt? (talk) 22:47, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Any more notable than the rest of that list below? --Jay (Talk) 23:09, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Finally, a list of all of these in one place. And if you think I'm being sarcastic, I'm not. Some, if not all, of those below should be listed on the respective pages, perhaps in a special section. — It's dot com 23:14, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Just for the record, a more general version of this glitch is already recorded right here. - Joshua
True, but perhaps we're finally to the point where that is too general. — It's dot com 20:31, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Flash artifact mutual exclusion

Just for reference, let me list all the "mutual exclusion" effects I can find. I'll write "&" if it doesn't matter which is done first and "→" if they must be done in order:

Main Page 2: Store & Characters: The rain falls behind the Christmas ornaments.
Main Page 3: Downloads → Email: When Homestar's head falls back, the glasses don't move with him.
Main Page 4: Characters → Toons: The pins on the far left turn back to white.
Main Page 4: Characters → Games: The Games animation and its sound effects don't play.
Main Page 6: Toons & Downloads: Homestar holds two harps.
Main Page 8: Characters & Downloads: Homestar's star falls back, but there's no wind.
Main Page 8: Downloads & Store: Homestar's star flies AGAINST the wind.
Main Page 9: Downloads → anything: Not really an oddity, but Homestar's head speaks properly even when elevated.
Main Page 10: Store → anything: Again, not really an oddity, but Homestar's head speaks properly backwards.
Main Page 10: Store → Store: Homestar's head moves back into position... a little bit behind where it should be.
Main Page 10: Store → Downloads: Homestar eats the bomb when not facing it.
Main Page 10: Store → Characters: A soup can flies out of the back of Homestar's head.
Main Page 11: Downloads → Store: Strong Bad appears in front of Homestar's landscape.
Main Page 11: Downloads & Email: The Homestar Runner logo appears over Strong Bad's weather map.
Main Page 11: Downloads & Toons: Homestar's name appears over Strong Bad!
Main Page 13: Characters & Email: Two Strong Bads! (This doesn't require click-and-drag, though that makes it easier.)
Main Page 14: Store → Games (move the cursor off Games without the click-and-drag method): The water turns off, but it's still foggy.
Main Page 14: Characters & Games or Store: Two streams of water.
Main Page 14: Downloads & Store: Homestar apparently writes "Lemke" through the shower curtain.
Main Page 15: Downloads → Email: PbtC Strong Bad can be heard over The Cheat and Strong Bad's conversation.
Main Page 15: Store: Oddly, click-and-drag doesn't work on the "sun" effect on the button. (This is an "odd because it's not that odd" sort of thing.)
Main Page 16: Store → Toons: The effects of Toons don't happen.
Main Page 16: Email → Games: You can see Homestar knocked back by the snowball behind the pile of snow. His eyes, however, don't move.
Main Page 17: Store → Email: 1-Up's hair disappears as the screen turns to black-and-white, and then reappears.
Main Page 22: Downloads → anything: You might not be able to see the buttons or their effects after the screen blanks, but you can still hear them.
Main Page 22: Downloads → Store: You can still see Homestar's head near the "Edgar" popup.
Main Page 22: Downloads & Email: You can see the HTML hole and virus'd Strong Bad near the Edgar popup as well.
Homsar Main Page: Email → Characters or Downloads: The dinosaur/boat never appears.
Strong Bad's Room Main Page: Characters → anything: The music stops.
Strong Bad's Room Main Page: Email → Characters: The poster immediately flips back down - only really notable because it still curls up if you go the other way.
Strong Bad's Room Main Page: Characters → Email: The poster turns dark for a moment before curling up.
Luau Main Page: Characters → anything: Homestar's flame remains, but his head turns pale.
Luau Main Page: Characters → Characters: The flame disappears, but Homestar's head turns dark anyway. --Jay (Talk) 22:45, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Whoa, nice work Jay! Maybe we can make a page called Main Page Glitches, or something like that. Has Matt? (talk) 23:20, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Okay, not quite the reaction I was expecting... --Jay (Talk) 23:23, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
As I hinted at in the above section, I'm all for that idea. — It's dot com 23:26, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
And, just to show that this page would be useful to veterans as well as newcomers, I was not aware of everything in the list. — It's dot com 23:28, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Admit it... some of you went and tried some of those tricks when you read about them up there, didn't you? — It's dot com 23:32, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I give up. Do whatever with that list. --Jay (Talk) 23:36, 22 March 2006 (UTC)

Hey, guys, I got an idea. If it's possible and not that hard, maybe you could add a Glitches page to each item in the Wiki! Eric55673 20:24, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

Well, I went ahead, was bold, and made that page, using your list and a little of your words, Jay. Hope you don't mind... --DorianGray

[edit] Main Page?

I only see pages one through ten, and Spin and Say, the Luau, and Audition. Can someone check this for me? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 05:53, 23 July 2015 (UTC)

I just checked again. This isn't for the swf it's when you watch the Luau toon and view the main page through it. Can someone confirm? --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:36, 26 July 2015 (UTC) If it were true it would alter the chronology a bit. --Image:Homsariconformysig.gifBroncoTroll 23:36, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
