The euphemistic expression of "giving a care" appears sporadically in the Homestar Runner universe.

Appearances

• Debut: Email no loafing — Strong Bad talks about hanging inspirational posters that "say stuff about determination and giving a care".
• Email modeling (Easter egg) — The ad for "SB Finest Colognac" reads "drink it. or wear it. we don't really give a care".
• Email theme song — The narrator for the "Three Is 4 Tonite" ad says "Coming up later on Three is 4 Tonite: join Mandy, Brandy, Andy, and Scurge, as they learn how to give a care".

Rats

Not to be confused with the heavy metal band Ratt.

Has more infectious diseases than any other vermin here.

Whether alive or dead, rats are disgusting, unsanitary creatures who spread plague and give financial advice.

• Email website — One of the GIFs used on Strong Bad's Website is a rat with an envelope in its mouth.
• Email anything (DVD Commentary) — Strong Bad claims his keyboard is so disgusting, one time a rat fell out of it.
• Thy Dungeonman II — Thy Dungeonman meets a plague rat named Percy.
• That Time Of Year — Strong Bad defaces a book so that the boy gets financial advice from the Rat King.

• A Folky Tale — Saddy Dumpington tries to spread cheer by telling the mayor that gross bugs and rats sleep in their beds.
• Fall Float Parade — While buried in a pile of sweatshirts, Homestar Runner complains that a rat has bit his knee.
• Email isp — Strong Bad gets outraged that his download of a GIF featuring a break dancing rat is taking too long.
• Decemberween Short Shorts — The Homestar Runner builds a rat pile because Decemberween is the most sanitary time of year.
• Email your edge — One of the things mentioned on the cover of "Have Edge Times Magazine" is "A Dead Rat".
• Homestar Ruiner —
  • Strong Bad refuses to eat organic chocolate-covered packing peanuts. He believes he can find a better use for them poisoning rats.
  • After viewing Homestar's "comic", Strong Bad describes it as something a blind cat might've thrown up after eating a blind rat.
  • Homestar Ruiner Teen Girl Squad — If Strong Bad uses the Brainkrieg ringtone on any girl, a rat will follow her. If he follows the ringtone with a text message, the girl will be savaged by rats, who apparently like metal.
• Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective — One of the informants Dangeresque encounters during the game is named Stoolie Rat Weasel.
• 8-Bit is Enough — After being rescued by Rather Dashing, Strong Sad says they can join forces and kill orcs and rats.
• Homestar Runner Goes for the Gold — Confused at the inclusion of The Sneak in the story, Strong Bad remarks that he doesn't know how that Old-Timey rat thing will cripple anybody.
• Final Hours Playthrough — After mentioning that Peasants Go West is his favorite Don Bluth joke, Strong Bad also mentions The Rats of NIMH.
• Halloween Hide and Seek — Bubs admits to have been operating a rat casino under the King of Town's castle for years.
• Disk 4 of 12 - Vampire's Castle — Strong Bad encounters a rat in the torture chamber while playing the text adventure Vampire's Castle. He jokes that the band Ratt is in the torture chamber instead. Attempts to kill the rat fail, leading him to believe that the rat is axe-proof.
• 2022 Costume Pack Now Available — Referencing Vampire's Castle, the torture chamber set reappears with both the rat and Stephen Pearcy of Ratt.
