Strong Mad As Nikolai Volkoff Strong Mad Nikolai Volkoff Nikolai Volkoff (born Josip Peruzović) (October 14, 1947 – July 29, 2018) was a professional wrestler in the WWF. Although he was portrayed as a Russian, he was born in Croatia. He was perhaps best known for playing a Communist villain in the height of the Cold War. In the early '70s, he was managed by Captain Lou Albano, but reached the height of his fame in the '80s, forming a tag team with The Iron Sheik, when he would frequently sing the national anthem of the Soviet Union and, as Strong Mad mentions, carry the nation's flag to the ring.
