"Oh, he looks so peaceful."

There are numerous references to the subject of death. These range from a character's death or near-death, to imagining or behaving as though a character has died. As in many cartoons, when a character dies, the death is usually impermanent — the character may reappear alive, often with no explanation.

Appearances

Bad Graphics Ghost

In an Easter egg in the Strong Bad Email ghosts, it is possible to "kill" the Bad Graphics Ghost by erasing the pixels.

Bubs

In the Strong Bad Email pom pom, Bubs mentions having "almost died the 15th time."
In Sample of Style, Mike Chapman rips the cardboard tube that "produces" Bubs's voice. Matt Chapman says that they will have to kill off Bubs, "just like Homeschool Winner". A picture of Bubs's grave then appears.
In the Strong Bad Email unnatural, Strong Bad frequently suggests that they kill the rampaging King Bubsgonzola Supreme.

Cheat Commandos

In the original commercial, Firebert is shown killing two Blue Laser Minions by blowing up a cliff above them, sending rocks crashing down on top of them. (Coach Z similarly "kills" five Blue Laser Minion action figures by using Reinforcements' Justice Rocket Backpack Rocket Rocket to send a pie plate crashing down on them.)
In Shopping for Danger, Crackotage remarks that Reynold would "prob'ly die" if he went on a mission with the rest of them, later heading back to base "to make sure Reynold isn't dead".
In Commandos in the Classroom, two Blue Laser Minions are just about to shoot Fightgar when we cut away from them.
In Let us give TANKS!, all of the main Commandos (except Reynold) are ostensibly killed in a nuclear explosion at the Blue Laser Cottage, along with the Blue Laser Commander and at least two Blue Laser Minions.
- In the same toon, the commander of the Green Helmets asks Gunhaver for air support in a battle because of the "heavy losses" they're suffering.
  - Also in the same toon, Fightgar threatens to shoot the Blue Lasers with "bullet-shooting guns" (but it turns out he was just kidding).
In Blue Laserdisc Challenge, there are several different ways for the Blue Laser Commander to die if you choose incorrectly, such as being eaten by a monster or cut in half by a bladed pendulum.

Frank Bennedetto

In the Strong Bad Email army, Frank Bennedetto "dies", after being kicked by Strong Bad. He is later seen alive in Labor Dabor.
- In the email more armies, a memorial statue for Frank Bennedetto is seen. This may mean either that his death was real, or that his service in the Homestarmy was worthy of commemoration.

The Goblin

In Homestarloween Party, the Goblin is crushed by the short-circuited Visor Robot.

Homestar Runner

In the Strong Bad Email the show, Homestar says, "But it turned out I didn't die."
In Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 2.0, Strong Bad as "Detective Everybody" said Homestar was shot 37 times for being too stupid.
Homestar is in Heaven on Main Page 6 and is seen in a zombie-like form on Main Page 7.
In Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 14.2, Homestar calls to say he is sinking in quicksand, and says that if Marzipan helps, he would be "really, really still alive."
In the movies, Strong Bad instructs Homestar to die before firing his bazooka at him.
In winter pool, Homestar instructs Strong Bad to preserve his body in red jello when he dies.

Homsar

In the Strong Bad Email homsar, Strong Bad "kills" him with the Heavy Lourde at the request of Vinnie C. Although The Brothers Chaps intended at first for him to be killed, he was later revealed to be alive but seriously injured in Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 5. The Heavy Lourde is dropped on him again on the Homsar Main Page.
In the Strong Bad Email origins, he and Marzipan are glued together and "left for dead" at The Stick, even though neither one actually dies.
In cliffhangers, Strong Bad drops Homsar and The King of Town off a cliff.

Kerrek

In interview, an Easter egg shows him after being "smote" by Trogdor.
In the game TROGDOR!, when you reach the level 50 interlude, Kerrek is burninated by Trogdor.
In Peasant's Quest, he is slain by Rather Dashing with his bow and arrow.

The King of Town

In Halloween Fairstival, after seeing an X-ray of the King's heart, Strong Bad is content to "let the King die in peace."
In cliffhangers, the King is dropped from a cliff, along with Homsar.
In original, Strong Bad suggests that the King has died twelve times, each time replaced with a new actor, at least one of which may have been an onion. It should be noted that Marzipan later confirms that Strong Bad "just made all that stuff up", even though an Easter egg shows a graveyard populated solely by Kings of Town I-XII.

Marzipan

In the Strong Bad Email origins, Marzipan and Homsar are glued together and "left for dead" at The Stick, even though neither one actually dies. Strong Bad later comments on Marzipan's "considerable resistance to death".
In Date Nite, Strong Bad suggests drowning Marzipan and The Cheat.

Multi-Function Dragon

In KOT's VOQPCS!, the Dragon is killed when speared by The Knight in the "instant death" section of his chest.

Old-Timey

In Parsnips A-Plenty, Old-Timey Strong Bad falls off a cliff. He is later revealed to be in Hell in an Easter egg.
In That A Ghost, all of the main characters are reduced to skeletons, and Old-Timey Bubs pokes his head out of a grave asking Strong Man to "please keep it down."
In Decemberween Short Shorts, Rumble Red is beheaded by Old-Timey Marzipan's machine, which she gave to him as a Decemberween present.
- Also During the Old-Timey portion of Decemberween Short Shorts, The Homestar Runner is forming a pile of dead rats.
Sickly Sam buries himself alive on Tuesdays, and has numerous traits of an undead being, including a partially exposed skeleton.
In Malloween Commercial, Mr. Shmallow's grave is seen in one scene.
In Sickly Sam's Big Outing, The Homestar Runner and Old-Timey Marzipan supossedly die.

Pom Pom

In the Strong Bad Email pom pom, Kevin wonders what would happen to Pom Pom if he was poked with a pin. Strong Bad decides to try this, except that he would also be blindfolded and Pom Pom would be set on fire with the BMW Lighter. He believes that Pom Pom exploded in "a big fiery ball that was visible from space", when in reality he got a "severe pummeling" by Pom Pom. He even wrote Pom Pom's parents a letter of condolence.
In Where's The Cheat?, Strong Bad calls Marzipan and pretends to be Homestar Runner, and he tells her that he got mad and killed Pom Pom.
Pom Pom's ghost flies out of his grave on Main Page 7.

Pom Pom's Girls

In Homestarloween Party, they are zapped by the Visor Robot.

Rather Dashing

Rather Dashing can die in a variety of ways throughout Peasant's Quest. The most noteworthy of these is when he gets burninated by Trogdor at the end of the game.

The Sad Kids

In Homestarloween Party, they are crushed by the short-circuited Visor Robot, and none of them live.

Señor and Mr. Bland

The Strumstar Hammer Easter Egg from kids' book writes that Señor died after the grapes squished him.
According to the email origins, they were by far the most popular characters until they were crushed by a falling Bubs' Concession Stand. However, they manage to reappear in Strongest Man in the World.

sloshy

In a Limozeen: "but they're in space!" cartoon from Limozeen vs. Sloshy, the band and their tour bus are destroyed by Limozeen.

Strong Bad

Strong Bad is in heaven on Main Page 6 and he rises from his grave on Main Page 7.
Strong Bad's grave is seen at the end of replacement.
In the email time capsule, an emailer asks Strong Bad how he can be "soooo awesome" if he's dead, and requests that he make a time capsule.
In Biz Cas Fri 1 and bike thief, Strong Bad proclaims he would "rather die" than do the things Strong Sad and Homestar request.
The Strong Bad Email your funeral consists entirely of Strong Bad imagining what his funeral would be like.
An egg in the likeness of Strong Bad's head smashes in Eggs.
In winter pool, Strong Bad almost suffocates while inside a pool of red gelatin.

Strong Sad

In Search of the Yello Dello Commentary — Strong Sad reveals that he himself dreams of his own death (over and over and over...).
A Folky Tale — Strong Sad "faints", making Coach Z believe he killed him.
Email caffeine — Strong Bad concludes that his "test subject" is dead (which Strong Sad immediately denies).
Email impression — In complimenting The Cheat's costume, Coach Z says "It's as if Strong Sad was still alive and with us today!"
Email fingers — As Strong Bad imagines what it would be like if he used fake fingers, the viewer can see a dead Strong Sad behind the couch in one scene. Also during this sequence, two Easter eggs show Strong Sad stuffed inside a locker and a soapbox.
Email personal favorites — Strong Bad types "I swear on Strong Sad's grave" in the unaired email "Tape Leg 2".
HomestarRunner.com PAY PLUS! — A picture on the first screen shows The Cheat serving Strong Bad a platter with Strong Sad's head on it.
Email retirement — "Strong Sad's ghost" and "Strong Sad's corpse" are among the entries in Strong Bad's Cloud Shape Spotting Log, as seen in an Easter egg.
Decemberween Short Shorts — Strong Sad's ornament falls to the ground and breaks into several pieces.
Email unnatural — Strong Sad paints a picture with the word "Death" on a bar of soap.

Teen Girl Squad

The main characters in Teen Girl Squad are killed off nearly every episode in a variety of ways, yet they always come back alive in the next issue, and sometimes later in the same issue, as seen with Cheerleader in Teen Girl Squad Issue 7.
In an Easter egg of Teen Girl Squad Issue 10, What's Her Face suggests killing someone off for their tenth Teen Girl Squad issue.

The Cheat

The Cheat has his own song, The Cheat is Not Dead.
In the Strong Bad email bedtime story, The Cheat's vitals are tested after being bug-bombed in order to go to sleep. Strong Bad also says "If we're lucky, the Cheat will wake up alive the next morning".
In Date Nite, Strong Bad suggests drowning Marzipan and The Cheat.

Videlectrix Mascot

At the beginning of Peasant's Quest, when the Videlectrix logo is shown, the mascot runs in with a sword, then trips and impales himself on it.
At the beginning of Where's an Egg?, when the Videlectrix logo is shown, the mascot shoots the logo with a gun, but the bullet ricochets back and kills him.

Visor Robot

In Homestarloween Party, memories of his stolen life move him to tears and short out his circuits.

The Where's an Egg? Detective

If the detective fails to find the egg, he is exiled to Siberia and the game ends with him turning into a skeleton.

The Yello Dello

During the mountain scene in the new version, Pom Pom aims his gun at the Yello Dello, but throws it away when Homestar says he wants to "take her alive."

Strong Bad's Computers

Strong Bad's computers often meet with untimely demises, as seen in gimmicks, virus, and Biz Cas Fri 3. The Tandy 400 returned in ghost form in ghosts, and both the Compy 386 and the Tandy appeared in ghost form after Strong Bad destroyed them in retirement.

The Paper

The Paper died in the eponymous email. After its printer broke, Strong Bad was forced to apply a mercy killing with the BMW Lighter.
