Renaldo is a master of fiche: micro, macro, and fried. I first met him on a deep cover assignment in Parts Unknown when he somehow pickpocketed JUST the Reesy Cups out of my Reesy Cup Meltshake! I was so impressed that I hired him on the spot as my sidekick. But, sometimes Renaldo just can't help his pickpocket roots and finds himself on the wrong side of the corrupt law. Which maybe cancels things out?
Renaldo is Dangeresque's regular partner, played by Coach Z in Strong Bad's Dangeresque films. Dangeresque works alone, except when he works with Renaldo, which is all the time.
Renaldo returns in Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective, once again aiding Dangeresque in his missions. In this movie, he is to retire in two weeks. Renaldo is later kidnapped by Craig and Uzi Bazooka and taken to their space station at the Sun. He reportedly dies at the end of the movie, when the space station is destroyed. However, there is a deleted scene in Extended Play where Dangeresque saves him, Dangeresque Too defeats Craig, and the three sing. Renaldo returns in Dangeresque 4÷2=6 and Dangeresque Roomisode 2: The Intersection of Doom & Boom.
Renaldo takes after his actor's strange and creepy tendencies, as well as his fondness for rapping and showers, and is generally portrayed as incompetent and cowardly. Despite often being the butt of jokes contrasting Dangeresque's coolness, Renaldo apparently ranks above him, as he is able to assign him missions and a new partner, and take away his badge; however, his descriptions from Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate and Crime Scene Tamperer claim that he was hired as a sidekick by Dangeresque himself. According to Renaldo, he's worked with Dangeresque since 1991 or earlier, and Dangeresque claims he was once in the Navy.
[edit] Costume and Insignia
Renaldo originally wore a turban with a gold star and crescent insignia — intended as a nod to the New Orleans Police Department badge — pin. Since Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate, the turban instead uses a sideways crescent combined with actor Coach Z's Z symbol. A red fez is balanced atop the turban.
Although still speaking with Coach Z's usual regional-American accent, other elements of Renaldo's design indicate the character may be meant to be non-specifically "foreign". His name comes from the Spanish language, fezzes and/or turbans are worn in many cultures ranging from North Africa to Southeast Asia, and his original emblem variously recalls the Ottoman empire, Islam, or the Shriners organization. Furthermore, his descriptions mention that Dangeresque first met him in Parts Unknown, the same descriptor used for Strong Bad's origins in Marshmallow's Last Stand.
