[edit] Gameplay

The three interaction options: "Look at", "Talk to", and "Get/Use"

Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate is a point-and-click adventure game. The title, a portmanteau of "room" and "episode", refers to how the games are structured to take place in a single location rather than an expansive world (compare Thy Dungeonman 3).

Dangeresque is the primary playable character, though on occasion Renaldo or Dangeresque Too can be controlled. Clicking on an interactive character or item reveals three options:

  • Look at (eyeball icon) — Dangeresque observes the item, commenting on its status (e.g. noting that a door is locked) as applicable.
  • Talk to (chattering teeth icon) — Dangeresque starts a conversation with a character, or offers a humorous one-liner to an inanimate object.
  • Get/Use (boxing glove icon) — Dangeresque will take an item (if possible) or will physically manipulate it.

Items that a player "gets" are added to their inventory, which can then be re-selected and used on other objects in the game. It is not necessary to combine multiple inventory items, though items may frequently change status (a cup being filled or emptied, for instance) as the game progresses. In addition to "talk to" actions, Dangeresque narrates the actions he takes for the benefit of the player.

Roomisodes typically begin by introducing several objectives the player must complete. Accomplishing these tasks usually takes the form of completing multi-step puzzles, taking several actions in a certain sequence or making use of multiple items to do so.

Although it is possible to fail the objectives, these "game over" states are brief. After playing a short video clip of the character's demise, the player is immediately returned to just before the losing action was taken. Some game overs imply that a stunt double took the fall for Dangeresque.

The itch.io version later added:

MAC Users: **We are working on getting Apple Developer Certification. Until then, the best solution Itch.io has recommended is to download the itch.io desktop app:

https://itch.io/app

and run the game from inside the app. This seems to solve the "this file is corrupted and should be trashed" error some users are getting. Apologies for the inconvenience as we navigate Apple Developer Funland!

[edit] Launch em up's!

Date: August 11, 2023

Greetings from Good Graphickateers Central! Videlectrix has just launched Dangeresque: The Roomisode Triungulate, a remaster and expansion of a 15 year old point n' click-em-up that is playable (and payable!) on modern PCs!

What better way to enter the modern age of videogamery than by dusting off an old game, dousing it with WD-40, blowing into its cartridge slot until you're blue in the face, and adding advanced graphics and 3D-rendered cutscenes!

Videlectrix has been teaching itself the latest tools and systems and the hope is that this little game is just the beginning.

[edit] Steamins!

Date: August 11, 2023

ALERT (UPDATED 8/11 8:22pm) - If you purchased and downloaded the game before 8:22PM Eastern Time U.S. you should re-download before playing again. It contained some leftover Steam-specific scripts that were causing the game to crash. Videlectrix has attempted to remove all of this Steaminess and so far the game is now working properly on our end.

Apologies if this causes any loss of save data or game progress.

Please let us know in the comments if you are still experiencing this issue. Steam belongs in saunas and dry cleaners, amiright?! Not viderogames!!

[edit] Sounds Dangeresque!

Date: August 21, 2023

Soundtrack now available to anyone that purchased the game!

Featuring music from the game AND extended re-arrangements by the incredible Rich Trott (https://palacefamilysteakhouse.bandcamp.com/)!

34 tracks! Available in WAV or MP3. Have at it!

Bugs Addressed
**NOTE - Some bugs may persist if loading a savegame from the previous build

  • Save/Score bug that caused player to no longer gain points after loading a savegame file
  • Removed redundant sound components from Roomisodes 2 and 3
  • Room 1: coffee/stamp disappearing on reload
  • Room 2: meltshake bug that messed up full/empty status of meltshake cup
  • Room 2: Flippin' sewer cap visibility bug
  • Room 2: After solving toolbox, the TALK action item option would disappear
  • Room 2: Streetlight hotspot would disappear when loading an earlier game after smashing streetlight
  • Room 2: Arcade Guy animation playing incorrectly after loading an earlier game
  • Room 3: Terminal bug that caused softlock and double Waitre D's if you dragged orders off the screen
  • Room 3: Saving and loading a game from the wall photos closeup would result in Perducci having no head

Thanks for playing and helping us find these bugs. We will keep searching and fixing and improving and probably adding more dumb stuff!

**MAC Users! We continue to attempt to get Apple Certification for the game and continue to have the files rejected for various reasons. Apologies for the delay with this. We will continue to try!

Seemingly Fixed Bugs:

Date: May 29, 2024

V1.21 Bug Fixes n' More:

  • Fixed known save bugs (items/progress not updating properly)
    • Continuing to look for more and replicate and repair
  • Fixed Game Reset bug that resulted in Slide Around Town Clown Homestar
  • Added some new nonessential dialog, jokes, and clickins to try and make up for bugs.
  • Added a cheat on the titlescreen for folks who have already played and uninstalled or lost Roomisode progress to unlock Room X without having to replay all 3 Roomisodes. Just pretend it's 2005 and you're searching for Easter Eggs in a Sbemail.

More Boring Bug Fixes v1.21:

  • Addressed more save bugs (conversation progress, visibility of some items not saving), will continue to replicate and repair more as they are found
  • Added a Cheat to unlock Room X for those who previously completed the whole game but since uninstalled it.
On the main title screen, do the same thing you woulda done in 2005 to locate easter eggs in a Strong Bad email
  • Added some new nonessential dialog, jokes, and clickins to try and make up for bugs.
  • Looking into Cloud Saves to see if it's feasible
Thanks for your continued patience!

[edit] Fun Facts

[edit] Explanations

  • Triungulate is a rarely-used scientific term used to describe animals with three toes.
    • It could be considered a malapropism of "trilogy", as this release consists of three games.
    • It could also be a play on triumvirate, a group of three people holding power, or triangulate, meaning to divide an area into triangles in order to measure or map it.
  • The index page announcement's page title, "Please Insert Disk Tri of Ungulate!", refers to the multiple, numbered floppy disks used for installation and gameplay of the sort of older PC adventure games that The Roomisode Triungulate is designed to resemble.

[edit] Trivia

  • The shortened itch.io description (seen on Videlectrix's page) reads "Join the world's best private eye/crooked cop as he puzzles his way through this short point n click adventure."
  • The shortened Steam description reads "Join Dangeresque, the world's greatest private eye/crooked cop, as he puzzles his way through 3 bite-sized roomisodes in this classic-style point n' click adventure."
  • The "More information" box on itch.io lists the status as "Released", the platforms as "Windows" and "macOS", the author as "Videlectrix", the genre as "Adventure", and the tags "Comedy", "dangeresque", "homestar-runner", "Mystery", "Noir", "Point & Click", "Retro", and "strong-bad".
  • Many of the people thanked — Tulley Rafferty, Emily Morganti, Erin Yvette, Jake Rodkin, Chuck Jordan, and Jonathan Sgro — formerly worked for Telltale Games.

[edit] Remarks

  • The Steam storefront is copyrighted as "©2023 Harmless Junk Inc".
  • Dan Mackenzie is credited as a playtester. He may be the same Dan Mackenzie whose animations were featured on the Weekly Fanstuff in 2007 and 2009.

[edit] Real-World References

  • The cursor resembles those of the Windows 3.1 era of operating systems.
  • One of the songs that Dangeresque Too sings while kicking the Desque is to the tune of the Addams Family.
