[edit] PC World H*R mention

Congrats! SBemails have been mentioned as a "Vodcast" worth your time in the September 2006 PC World, on page 108! Here is the exact context.

Hope this sparks some interest. --66.82.9.80 12:46, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

  • I have uploaded a scan of mine from that exact PCW page.

and another one!

And I was just reading that issue! (Admittedly, while on the wiki.) How did I miss that? Thanks 66.82.9.80 and On2see! — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 03:49, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
Sad to say, I am on2see. (both 66.82.9.80 and on2see are same). As copied from a conversation I had with AbdiViklas on his talk page:

Thanks AbdiViklas! (just so you know, I was the one who created the real-world references for DVD version on garage sale, but if you look in recent changes it shows an IP) I realized you left me a welcome message on my talk page (I am on2see, I can't get Firefox to remember wiki cookies (any help appreciated)) Thanks again! On2see

  • Glad you got a username! Now then—you mean you're having a problem staying logged in because Firefox won't use the cookies? (And by the way, brownie points and good karma to ya for using Firefox!) For me, if I go to the Tools menu, then Options, then the Privacy tab, I find the controls for cookies. My settings are "allow sites to set cookies," "for the originating site only," and keep "til they expire," and it seems to work fine for me. —AbdiViklas 20:34, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
    • Well, I changed my settings, but now on some pages it shows I am logged in (ex. on the page that shows right after I log in) and, well, sometimes not... (ex. right now as I am editing your talk page, it shows my ip address and also says create an account or log in... But thanks for the quick response! You're my favorite Wikipedian (really!) Thanks, on2see
      • Thanks! But what you're experiencing is still odd, and it would be nice to get it tracked down. One other thing: when I sign in, I usually select the "remember me" checkbox (since I'm using my own computer in my own apartment); if I hadn't, I'd need to sign in each time I re-open my browser. If you're using a private computer you might try that. Beyond that, you'll need the help of those who know more about these superboxes than I do, to figure out why your cookies are crumbling. —AbdiViklas 16:25, 5 January 2006 (UTC)

Can you help? --66.82.9.82 17:23, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] where

Did the fan websites page go?-me

[edit] Great Look!

Hey Homestar Runner Fans!

I am the the governor, er, owner, Landlord, ect of Wiki Guitar. This site looks awesome and it has some great enhancements that I would love to see at Wiki Guitar. Yasee folks, I am a guitar player - so I don't know how to do all this fancy stuff. Look at my site, it is dull and boring! I also want to note that I am a college student with no money, which is why there are ads on my site.

Anyway, I'm reaching out to the Homestar Runner Wiki people to give me a lift! I could never figure out how to do background images(like what you have on the main page), and I do have a slight problem with spam. The letter verification thinger is awesome!

I also heard about this thing called 'bots'. I know nothing about them, but they sound helpful!

By the way, I am a Homestar Runner fan. I think Homestar Runner Wiki and WikiGuitar should be friends.

Well, to finish up, if theres anyone willing to give me a boost, I'll get you whatever you need to edit my site and fix it up. So shoot me an e-mail at Danielecook@gmail.com and let me know if you could help me with it, maybe I could help you out too...Webhosting, wiki, email, domain name registration, ect.

Hi there Daniel. Background images are a simple matter of CSS. Have a look at a CSS tutorial (their background page will get you started on the background image) and go nuts.
More information on the bot you speak of can be found at Meta:Using the python wikipediabot. You'll probably want to join their mailing list and ask further questions there.
As for being wiki friends, you're more than welcome to join and start contributing to our wiki. Take care. -- Tom 17:41, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey thats good stuff! I'll be looking into it. Decstuff (Talk | contribs) 17:51, 12 August 2006 (UTC) (left unsigned)

Ough! I can't get this CSS stuff to work! Where is the CSS file that HRwiki is referring to in the directory? I can't figure out what file it is referencing to get those images...So which CSS file do I edit is what I'm asking.

Decstuff 01:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

Since you're on MediaWiki version 1.6.3, you can either edit MediaWiki:Monobook.css or move some of that to MediaWiki:Common.css and edit that. I'd also recommend upgrading to at least the latest in the 1.6 line, as there have been four security/bug fix releases since 1.6.3, see mediawiki.org for details. You should also probably check out the MediaWiki documentation, as that will help you with using the software to its full potential. -- Tom 03:06, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is Homestar Runner done?

It said in the 10th anniversery cartoon, 1996-2006. Does that mean www.homestarrunner.com is dead? - 65.6.33.213

I don't really think that The Brothers Chaps will stop now. Just wait 'till Monday. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:58, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
No, Homestarrunner.com is not dead. It has just hit a major anniversary is all (but time may prove me wrong) - Raptor5ix-Image:Raptor5ixsiggy.png 19:03, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
They have to make money somehow. If they quit Homestar Runner, they will have to get real, boring desk jobs. :P —BazookaJoe 19:14, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
There's a quote from The Simpsons I like to use whenever this topic turns up. As Troy McClure said at the end of The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular [3F31]:
"Yes, the Simpsons have come a long way since an old drunk made humans out of his rabbit characters to pay off his gambling debts. Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable?"
See? Same logic applies here, except the bit about the gambling debts. Don't worry. – The Chort 21:07, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
That's just the normal way of displaying the years for such an anniversary. There is not even the slightst reason for any speculation here. Loafing 22:08, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Besides, surely the Chapman brothers would of released some kind of information regarding this topic. Or it would of leaked from another source. You jumped to conclusions I think.
But hey, we all make the jump.--The4swordImage:The4swordssigpicisbetterthanyours.PNG 19:21, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Not everything is a reference

I would just like to throw this out there, in the hopes that a few people might see it and actually read it.

Not everything is a reference. Homestar Runner has been out there 10 years now, they've made probly hundreds of hours of animation/voices and stuff and you are very easily going to be able to find SOMETHING that SORTA sounds like just about every line in any new toon.

Secondarily to that, its a great big world out there and you're gonna be able to find something that sorta sounds like any line in a new toon. The thing that leaps to mind is the marshmallow slogan "made from the best stuff" and someone said that was like Snapple's slogan "The best stuff on earth is in here" What is that, two words? I dont want to sound angry on here cuz this isnt in direct response to anything.

I was a long time contributor to the wiki-ish thing they had for Futurama and i noticed that people were just DESPERATE to have ANYTHING in there that they contributed. Now that wiki put the contributor's name there, so i don't really see why people are so crazy to get something in here.

Anyway, take it easy, try to keep in mind that the goal here is to provide a recounting of the toon, not to have paralysis by analysis and scrutinize everything and link every word to wikipedia.

Thanks, JamesDean

James, I'm sure most people would agree with you when you say that not everything is a reference. In particular, we should assume that things that are wild stretches are not references. On the other hand, there are a great many things that are references, and, as long as we're making this wiki anyway, I think I'm going to go ahead and scrutinize each toon to find the legitimate ones. Also, I have not noticed an over abundance of Wikipedia links. If you have, perhaps you could say in particular where you've seen them. — It's dot com 23:48, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Attack of the Show Mentions Homestarrunner.com

Yesterday, on Attack of the Show!, one of the MySpace girls had "raised by a cup of coffee" in their profile. On the air, somebody exclaimed:

Female Wrestler: Oh! I know where that's from! She stole it from Strong Bad...or...it wasn't Strong Bad that said it, I don't know who it was.

Kevin: Was it The Cheat? Nah, The Cheat just meeps.

Cool, huh? -AtionSong 16:48, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Of course, but this sort of thing really belongs in Television Sightings rather than here. — Lapper (talk) 16:53, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I feel somebody should point out the irony that she corrected herself after guessing Strong Bad said it, since it was him. Thunderbird 23:39, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Just Kinda Wonderin'...

If the unofficial slogan of the HRWiki is "You Might Not Get Banned!", then what IS our official slogan? -Brightstar Shiner 20:56, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

We don't have one. And "You Might Not Get Banned!" doesn't really count as a unofficial sloagan, as the only place it is used is the Uncyclopedia article. --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 21:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
We could copy Videlectrix's: "We use a Wiki... to document Homestar Runner!" :p --Jay (Talk) 21:07, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Jeez Venusy, I know it's not our OFFICIAL unofficial slogan. Jay's idea is pretty fun, though (can't you tell when I'm kidding?). -Brightstar Shiner 21:19, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
One slogan type deal is that we are "the best place to learn everything about the cartoons (and just about anything else) on HomestarRunner.com". -- Tom 21:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Ooo! Ooo! And the "It's Dot Org!" on the page you linked to is pretty swell as well. -Brightstar Shiner 21:51, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I got one. "More stuff about Homestarrunner.com than you or your grandmother could handle!" · · T2|Things 22:00, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, we've done pretty well without a slogan other than "If you've found this knowledge base useful, please consider making a donation." But should we choose one, then I'd prefer "It's dot org!" Short and to the point. Not as funny as Jay's suggestion, but it would confuse less people.  Loafing 22:09, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
You're right about "It's Dot Org!" It's source is in the First Time Here video, so more people would get it. I actually find that to be funnier than the Videctrix thing. -Brightstar Shiner 22:21, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
It's pretty good, but I don't think it exactly conveys what exactly we are. A little modification and it would be perfect. How about "It's dot wiki!" I'm pretty sure I got that from Lapper's userpage, but it might have been someone else's.
Once again my userpage saves thousands of lives... or at least provides reference to a point made on a talk page. That line on my userpage is modified from a line in pom pom. — Lapper (talk) 18:02, 8 September 2006 (UTC)

We could have different slogan each day or week, like This Might Be A Wiki. --Trogga 02:37, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The DVDs

I imagine that nobody else will agree with me, but I've always kind of thought there should be a direct link to the DVD content on the main page. Mainly because when I first bought the DVDs I thought of them as more of a multimedia experience than other items you buy in the store... so it took me awhile to figure out the links to their respective pages was in the store on the cd/dvd page. I am not saying that page should be gone, but perhaps split between dvd and cd? My reasoning?

-> In the store menu on H*R.com, it splits the cd and dvd as two different options under the category of cd/dvd's.

So what you could do is change the links on the STORE page under the CD/DVD category to 1.) DVD's of the cartoons (which is basically how they describe it on the store page on the site) 2.) Strong Bad Sings CD (which would now be a DIRECT link to the page)

This way you can then make a page DEVOTED to the DVD's. Since there will be more DVD's in the future, a purely dvd page seems to be more important in MY opinion.

Since the DVDs are a big thing (IMO) that many fans who bought them might be looking for on the Wiki, I thought featuring a link to the newly divided up "purely dvd only" page would be apropriate. Maybe called "The DVD's"...

I thought this would be a good idea, to have the dvds featured more prominently. If featuring a link to them on the main page is a bad idea... I still stand by the idea of seperating the dvds into their own page. I don't know if I should post this again in the Talk for Store or not. But I just wanted to know other people's opinions.--Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 03:31, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

You mean like strongbad_email.exe and Everything Else? They are quite hard to find for me, though.  Loafing 03:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
That's exactly what I'm talking about. Plus the Disc Four Strong Bad Email. They should all be on a "DVD Page" and easier to find. That's what "I" think anyway.--Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 03:58, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
We do have a disambig page, DVD, but that hardly seems to be what you're askin'... --DorianGray
I'm just saying to make the various DVD's have their own page with images of their box art, etc. like they do now (except now it also includes the Strong Bad Sings CD because it's linked as CD/DVD off the Store page's menu) -- Link to the DVD's from the main page and on the Store page seperate it so there's a link to the DVD page and then have the other link now DIRECTLY link to the Strong Bad Sings CD page instead of making it part of the DVD page. Am I making sense? It's hard to explain it much clearer than that. I'm just pointing out that the DVD pages are harder to find than they should be and they should be displayed (I think) more prominently. Hope everyone understands what I mean. --Image:Stinkwing.gif »Bleed0range« 07:30, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Filmography

Why aren't the character's pages linked to their filmography anywhere? Am i missing something? I was on the Strong Sad page and didn't see a link to filmography. If we don't usually do that, i think we should start.

It does. You need to look below the description paragraphs.--H*Bad 21:49, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] HRWooky

Is there suppose to be a parody wiki? http://hrwooky.wikia.com? 69.205.232.129 17:53, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes. It used to be on the Fanstuff Wiki, but it soon became "Out of Control" and was deleted. It was reopened as a separate wiki on Wikia. -AtionSong 17:58, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Halloween skin

There's only 53451:43 minutes left of Halloween! That's right, it's the best time of year for Homestar Runner! We need to do something special for this, and this is something that I've always had on my mind: We need to re-skin the site for Halloween. First and foremost, a redesign of Image:wiki.png to sport Halloween colors as seen in Ween Intro is in order, but with the possibility of taking creative license to change the blue background. Other things I suggest that may or may not be good ideas: changing link colors to orange, changing the site's background image from The Field to The Spooky Forest, changing the Main Page title bars from blue & red to orange & black, changing the small h*r logo as seen in the "official site" external link to a glowing carved pumpakin, and stuff like that. Let's do this like Brutus! —BazookaJoe 01:08, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

By the way, I suggest running the skin based on the following possibilities (given that Halloween is on a Tuesday this year):

  • If a pre-Halloween toon is released the week before, change the skin when it is released. When the full-length toon is released on ween week, revert the skin when we are sick of it, the latest being late Sunday night, Nov 5.
  • If no pre-Halloween toon is released, change the skin late Sunday night, Oct 29, and have it run to late Sunday night, Nov 5.
  • If the Halloween flava wears off, the skin gets annoying, and people start saying, "Halloween's over you figs," then revert sooner.

BazookaJoe 01:21, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Yes, let's! I love this idea. --DorianGray
I likes it too! Hmmm, should we have skins for more occasions, or would that be over the top? Loafing 01:49, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
Image:Wikiween.png... I don't have the original that the other logo was made from, so it's a little different, but I don't think it matters that much... phlip TC 02:21, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm liking the Halloween alteration of the logo; it would probably be all right to stop there. I wouldn't mind the link colors and the background, though. — Lapper (talk) 16:58, 25 September 2006 (UTC)
I think different link colors is going a little bit overboard, but I like the logo and background change ideas. —FireBird|Talk 20:25, 28 September 2006 (UTC)
'Kay, I tried my hand at making the background thing. I'm no expert at the sort, so it's not the best. If anyone else has a better one, I won't even upload mine... --DorianGray
Yeah, this is a great idea!--Marvelrulez

Wow, this is coming up fast. So aside from the brilliant upper logo redesign and spooky forest background silhouette, what else can we do? I still think that changing the Official site logo to a pumpakin is a cute touch. Changing link colors does seem like a bit too much. I'm trying to think of stuff we could do on the Main Page. I still like the idea of changing the red and blue main page tables to shades of orange. I also want to try putting a cute little pumpakin (or maybe a rotation of pumpakin character carvings) in the upper right corner (in the place where the suggested "featured article mark" was to be).

I've also re-thought the time to implement this. My old proposal started too late and lasted too late (people will be in the Halloween mood the weekend before and not the weekend after), so we'll try this:

  • If a pre-Halloween toon is released the week before, change the skin when it is released. Then after the full-length toon is released on ween week, revert the skin sometime around Friday, Nov 3.
  • If no pre-Halloween toon is released, change the skin late Thursday night, Oct 26, and have it run to around Friday, Nov 3.

BazookaJoe 20:38, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Maybe we could use the mst nominated Halloween-related article as the featured article...--Marvelrulez
Yup, we're going to have Halloween-related featured articles in the lineup this year. —BazookaJoe 20:57, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
I spent about an hour playing around with different ideas and testing them out on a test image... here's what I got. The backgrounds for the Main Page tables aren't perfect (especially Strong Bad's, but that's as close to black as I could get without it being too dark). I also decided to do a logo more similar to the current standard logo, although it looks a little awkward with the blue backgrounds and the orange Homestar. What do ya'll think about it? —FireBird|Talk 22:20, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
Edit: Here's one with another logo. —FireBird|Talk 22:34, 18 October 2006 (UTC)
It's lookin prooty good, FB. I wish I knew how to play around with that kind of stuff. So, I'll just settle on being the dreamer, planner, motivator, and encourager. =3  —BazookaJoe 04:26, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
They are pure awexome. I want them! --DorianGray
Well, we've had our pre-Halloween "thing" released. Let's do this like Brutus. — User:ACupOfCoffee@ 19:06, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I say we start it up Monday morning. There are still a couple of things to think about / do. —BazookaJoe 19:09, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Halloween's in less than two weeks an I hope that this skin actually happens. Wonderful idea and please carry on! -Brightstar Shiner 20:19, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Here's the individual images to use:
If we decide to use any of these, we can upload it to the site. (PS, I like the idea of a pumpkin in the featured article mark spot... I think we should do that.) —FireBird|Talk 20:40, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
Cool, that looks great :-) For the logo, I still prefer Image:Wikiween.png though. I hope it'll go with the orange of your header. I also think the pumpkin at where the FA mark was once suggested to be would be too much. Loafing 20:50, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
'S far as I'm concerned, nothing for Halloween is too much. =3 --DorianGray

[edit] Featured articles?

Is it just me, or can any article be a featured article here? There doesn't seem to be any set standard. Also, why isn't there any badge for the upper-right area of every featured article? Darth Katana X (discussionitem_icon.gif user.gif mail_icon.gif)

There's a relevant discussion on this here, but I don't know if that answers your questions entirely. Trey56 07:24, 27 September 2006 (UTC)
Edit conflict Have a read of HRWiki:Da Basement#Featured mark? which discussed the "badge in the upper-right area" thing, and also talked a little about what we choose as a featured article... in short, we usually choose FA's that are about interesting topics, as opposed to choosing articles for which the article itself is well made... though the latter is important too, it often comes after (choose an interesting topic, then clean up the page and feature it). With this in mind it doesn't really make sense to highlight the page with a badge of some kind... the template on the talk page is enough. phlip TC 07:26, 27 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A message to all "Homestar runner wikipedians"

I've been a member of H*R wiki for a long time now, and i've seen amny of the articles this wiki done. it has information on every detail that any of us can think of.

I'm not making much sense, but i think: since this wiki is practically full of info and everything, how about we do work on wikipedias articles on homestar runner, i'm sure we can better those as well.

what do you think?

Nikolce Kocovski 04:28, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

I totally agree, somebody needs to do some serious work over there, and as much as I intend to do something, I never do. Those articles are horribly neglected, running rampant with misinformation, grammar errors, and are an obvious waste of Internet since nobody reads much of it. Take WP:List of Homestar Runner characters, for example. Instead of fixing all of that crap, I'd rather we strip ALL of the 40+ Homestar Runner articles to redirects to Wikipedia:Homestar Runner, with the exceptions of Wikipedia:Homestar Runner (character), Wikipedia:Strong Bad, and Wikipedia:Trogdor. Then, we build up those articles from there, all the way up to finally getting them featured on WP's main page, w00t! Well, one can dream. —BazookaJoe 05:09, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Awesome! That sounds like a great idea! The ones BazookaJoe mentioned that we should save look pretty good already, but they could use some more detail. The only problem is, people who want to help and don't already/ don't want to have an account on Wikipedia would show up as IPs. IPs making tons of edits to a lot of pages probably would look suspicious. -Brightstar Shiner 12:31, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Note that these are things that should be discussed at Wikipedia and not here. I know we wouldn't like it if people were discussing changes to our articles somewhere we weren't aware of. -- Tom 19:47, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, we will talk about the works fully at WP, and for now we will talk about the interests HRWikians have in this potential project where people will read it. Brightstar, I don't think anonnies doing major edits to WP will be a problem as long as they use good edit sums with a link to a talk page discussion. —BazookaJoe 21:16, 8 October 2006 (UTC)
Brightstar Shiner, why not just sign up for an account? Registering a free account takes only a few seconds, and has many benefits. -- Tom 21:32, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

Tom, i understand it would be better to discuss wiki stuff there, but beleive me, the experts of Homestar runner are here, and we are more knowlegable about homestar runner then wiki could ever be. Nikolce Kocovski 10:02, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

Now that I think about it, maybe we should leave the big wiki as is and place more links to HRWiki if need be. Oh, and Tom, not meaning to be rude, but I don't really want an account there. Too hectic for editing, I mostly just read it. -Brightstar Shiner 20:19, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Hey guys, if you want, i can post the info you would write there in my name, you get what i mean? Also, we should collaborate together, to make Homestar runner (Universe) on wiki a featured article.

[edit] Podstar Runner

The Podstar Runner thingy should be put in the "features" section. It's a thought.--Eric the Rexman 17:55, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Baby Clothes Restock

I checked the site, and the Trogdor Baby Clothes have been restocked. We don't have this posted on the Main Page yet, so someone should get that taken care of. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 19:25, 9 October 2006

Okay, thanks! I just checked it earlier today (I think), so it must have been updated in the last few hours. —BazookaJoe 23:53, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Zoinks! Magazine interview

Found this out via Dueling Analogs (scroll down). Apparently, the October edition of Zoinks! Magazine has an interview with Matt Chapman in it. Should this be added to the Interviews and Public Appearances page? --videlectrix.pngENUSY discussionitem_icon.gif user.gifmail_icon.gif 07:19, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, then someone should email them and ask for premission to reprint it. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:35, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll give it a try. Loafing 09:10, 12 October 2006 (UTC)

What I'm wondering is, what article does a sighting like this go under? -- Dragoon5464 21:43, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
