[edit] Lobbying for a page.

We have a page for the Compy Inc. corporation. Why not Tandy? They made the Tandy 400, the Tangerine Dreams, the Monosodium Dreams and allgedgedly the "computer" from the facts. There may be more, I don't know off the top of my head. Anyway, they have made 3, 4 computers. Compy made 3 also, or 5 if you count the Grampy and the Roomivac. I say we make one. I would, but my thrill for H*R is low ever since the recent baby-break, and I'm not in the mood for dissapointment. So, before we make it, shall we decide if this page is needed BEFORE it is made? This would save trouble and probably boost morale.--Jellote wuz here 23:09, 31 January 2010 (UTC)

The catch is that we don't know what the Tandy's company is called. (Strictly speaking, we don't know that Compy, Inc.'s name is Compy, Inc., AFAIK, but we know it's Compy, at least.) --Jay (Gobble) 23:36, 31 January 2010 (UTC)
In case it's been forgotten, Tandy was the actual computer company that made the TRS-80 computer, sold by Radio Shack back in the 1980s/90s. I know because I had one -- horribly primitive by today's standards, but a good starter computer for early users. See the Wikipedia article on "Tandy Corporation" for more on this. [edit] New Index page!

I feel this deserves a mention. TBC have updated the original "Watch Intro/Come on in" page with Homestar smiling and an extra "Shop our Store" Option.

- 209.184.113.183 14:41, 1 February 2010 (UTC) (Everybody! the Log-in forgetman)

It's already been noted for a while.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 14:49, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff login

The homestar fanstuff wiki is here, but i can't find my user! Can a mod PM me a message so i can get to login? - POM Z 00:07, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Your fanstuff login is the same as the one here. They are no longer separate. — It's dot com 01:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Fanstuff Wiki's return

I think that we should have some header of other message on the KB informing users of the return of the HRFWiki, since many people have probably stopped checking for it's return by now. (I mentioned this idea earlier as an anonymous editor.) Shine Sprite (complain) 02:59, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Dangeresque

Why do the transcripts of the Dangeresque toons refer to the characters as their real names instead of their Dangeresque names? RickTommy 07:56, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

This would be an excellent question to ask on a more specific talk page, probably Talk:Dangeresque (film series). — It's dot com 18:06, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Talkheader like Wikipedia?

We should have a talkheader template like wikipedia so that it's the first thing people see on the page, which will give them insight to what to do, and to sign posts, and other useful information/links. How about that? ColdReactive 14:48, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I don't think that's really necessary. Our users tend to be more wiki-savvy than the average WP user. (Note that we do have the {{talk}} template for an unrelated issue.) — It's dot com 18:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Wiki continuance

Once H*R gets cancelled, will our Wiki have to go down with it? RickTommy 10:18, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

Who said it was gonna get cancelled? If it ever does, I'm sure TBC will leave the site up. No the wiki is not "going down with it". This is a knowledge base, so if TBC stops making toons, we still have work to do.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 15:40, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] E-mail

Has anyone tried contacting the Chapman Brothers about this long absence? I have at least three times, but I haven't gotten a response. RickTommy 09:54, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

Call me crazy, but this may have something to do with it. --Color Printer 15:41, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
They had babies before and it didn't take them as long as this time, so it's only natural for people to wonder. Regarding the delays of last year's updates, my guess is they're probably out of ideas or something like that.--Cass from Germany 19:47, 12 February 2010 (UTC)
*Sigh*. We've been through this before on this very page. This is simply speculations and comments. We have no evidence either way, and we don't know whether they will cancel or not. Speculations, no need to discuss it here. They stated they're taking a Baby Break, leave it at that.--Jellote wuz here 22:44, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Unavailable

Why was the Wiki shut down for all of yesterday? RickTommy 04:59, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

My guess is that the server may have been busy or something. That'sBupkis! 05:26, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Telltale 4 Macs

There is a pop up that says you should vote for SBCG4AP on macs! so far we're winning! Nihaho13 14:57, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Yeah we totally lost. - Opus the Penguin 20:45, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Time for Archive?

I'm not the most active member here, but I know when a page is getting cluttered. I think it's time for another archive before TBC starts making toons again and we get more traffic. The Swedish Ace 15:36, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

I concur. The page can grow extremely quickly, especially after a new toon. I say it is time to clear the page. The page is already lag-creating for slower computers. I think is time to archive it.--Jellote wuz here 16:28, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Archived. That'sBupkis! 16:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] How to pronounce?

How do you pronounce the wiki's name? Is it H R Wiki, Her-wiki, Hra-wiki? I've always wondered. Does it really matter either way?--Jellote wuz here 16:30, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

I pronounce it "Homestar Runner Wiki". Interestingly, the Chaps call Homestar Runner (the body of work, not the character) just Homestar, and so they call us the Homestar Wiki. To answer the question you actually asked, I'd say the first two letters separately if I had to pronounce the domain name. And of course it matters. — It's dot com 17:11, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
I call it Aitch-Ar-Wiki with people who know about it (or my obsession with it...), and Homestar Wiki with people who know what Homestar is, but not about this site. To complete strangers I just say I'm in a fan-site for a web cartoon :P. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 20:32, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
To those *really* in the know, I like to call it "ayeyeteeceeaitch ayar wiki." 24.91.153.95 21:24, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
I usually just refer to it as "The Homestar Runner Wiki", because I'm the type of guy who says stuff proper. SBE-mail Checker Dan 21:14, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Username change

I wish there was a way to change my user name, is there a way?--Rondleman! Stuff I did.Talk. 05:11, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

You can put in a request for a name change here. --DorianGray 05:13, 18 February 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Sbemail page update?

I was going through some old sbemails and found that a sticky note was put on the Compe saying "buy sbemails on dvd!" When clicked, it links to the store's sbemail section. Has anyone else reported this? SuperLuigi 18:06, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure it's on the Strong Bad Email page already. That'sBupkis! 19:56, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
More specifically, the Store page.--Record307 Talk/Contribs 00:10, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Obama's Homestar Plan

http://wsbradio.com/localnews/2010/03/obama-announcing-homestar-plan.html

That doesn't mean Homestar Runner. It means something diffrent. FTW :S --POM Z 21:13, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a funny coincidence, especially since he's headed to Georgia, but has nothing to do with the Runner. --Jay (Gobble) 21:15, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] PlayStation Article?

Just wondering if there is enough refs to SONY or PlayStation to make a SONY/PlayStation article. If so, I can go search for an image that you can use for it. (*cough* I'm just trying to get around the limits on how many images I can have, lol.) ColdReactive 17:08, 3 March 2010 (UTC)

Then do what we usually do - Dig up references, make an article, format, categorize, upload, etc.. See if it holds up. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 06:38, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Then I'm out then. I'm no good at making articles stay. Tried it with OvBB on Wikipedia.org, it got deleted because the software was abandoned. ColdReactive 08:32, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Edit shortage

Lately, mostly because of the lack of updates, this Wiki has become a wasteland. For the past couple of days, there have been less than 50 edits a day. What can we do to get more edits? RickTommy 21:37, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

Nothing. Nor is there any *reason* do. Homestar Runner has been in a lull for the last few months, and without any significant new site content, there's very little we *can* do that we aren't doing already. -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 22:01, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
As for wiki edits, there's no reason whatsoever why there needs to be a high edit count. We're not AIMING for more edits. Edits are not and end in and of themselves, but a by-product of us documenting the homestar universe. If there's nothing to document, there's no reason to edit. The alternative is creating an abundance of unnecessary pages such as Flashlights for the sole sake of making edits. — Defender1031*Talk 22:23, 4 March 2010 (UTC)
Moreover, if there's one thing we *could* be doing in such lulls, it's reaching consensus on the dozen or so pages pending deletion, many of which have been untouched in months, and deciding as a community just what makes a good page. (For instance, do we *really* need dozens of pages that do nothing but list every single time a common item pops up in a toon, often without even mentioning *where* in the toon it *appears*, what it's used *for*, and *why* it's even worth mentioning, period? But that's another issue entirely.) -YKHi. I'm Ayjo! 01:21, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
YK is right. When there are a lot of updates I can understand how some discussions take longer because everyone is busy with new pages, updating articles, transcribing and such. What we SHOULD be doing is discussing TBD articles. I half blame the management for that (and I'm part of that management) for no encouraging more wiki activity. We can repeat "baby break" 'till we're blue in the face, but there are things to do on the wiki. I really really wish I had more time on my hands to do more substantial edits these days, but college is really my top-most priority these days (And people know that when I get a break I go over all the maintenance stuff and clean what I can).
What I propose is putting a message on the main page, or the recent change, asking people to give their opinions of ongoing discussions. That will help us reach consensus on old pages and will create interest and activity in the wiki. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 08:31, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
By the way, if you need help finding unresolved issues, go here. BBG 16:09, 5 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Admin

It's been three years since we last had a new admin. Could we please have some more admins? RickTommy 07:22, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

What for? We run fine with the ones we have. --DorianGray 07:34, 10 March 2010 (UTC)
I have to agree, "If it works, don't fix it!" ColdReactive 13:56, 10 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Dub

Have any Homestar Runner cartoons been dubbed into other languages? RickTommy 09:35, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

Not officially, though you may find something on youtube or something. — Defender1031*Talk 09:38, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Autocomplete and spell check

Is there a way to implement Wikipedia's search features? Like autocompleting possible search results while you type, and suggesting correct spelling if you misspelled your search term? If so, do we plan to make an update with those features? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 22:49, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

I think our wiki's too small to make that thing necessary. Also, I personally just hate that autocomplete feature, but that's not really here nor there. Make sure there's a way to surpress it if you do, though. Ugh. I like my dropdown just fine. --DorianGray 03:59, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Well, I use it very frequently on any site that have it (Like Google and YouTube). And why write down long article names when you can with only one word? Elcool (talk)(contribs) 18:08, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
We'll be beginning an upgrade cycle relatively soon. I'll give it a look when we do. — It's dot com 21:30, 17 March 2010 (UTC)
Firefox can spell check text boxes too, and not just textareas. Though, for non-english words and portmanteaus, this would be a problem. If you want to expand firefox to all fields, change layout.spellcheckDefault to 2 in about:config. I'm neutral on this, though it would be nice to have the "Did you mean?" thing.
