Odd. When I move my mouse over the bar near the top-right corner that says that "log in/create account" stuff it moves all the way to the left. What gives? Also, the edit box has itty-bitty spaces between lines. Odd. -Color Printer, I can't log in for some reason.

[edit] christmas update?

Aren't we supposed to update the wiki with a cool, christmas-in-the-homestar-universe-themed skin and logo?--Mario2.PNG Super Martyo boing! 00:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

We've never done it before, but then again, we've never done a halloween skin before, either. So I don't see why not. It's a matter of wiki-wide opinion. — Lapper (talk) 03:31, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
I say we go for it. If Halloween gets a skin, Decemberween should too. — talk Bubsty edits 02:01, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
We will do it. Just need to actually... do it. Dot com is pretty dang overwhelmed right now, though. You gotta give it to the guy. Unless, somebody with the know-how can design and post some ideas. That would be very helpful. —BazookaJoe 04:33, 14 December 2006 (UTC)
Near the beginning of the logo redesign discussion, Bleed0range proposed this Decemberween logo. Trey56 16:52, 19 December 2006 (UTC)
I like it. Any other opinions? Heimstern Läufer 03:00, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
To clarify, I think the one Trey links to above is the way to go. I know another one was recently uploaded which is more like our current logo, with Homestar smiling. But the original seems more fitting to me: less distracting, plus mouth closed kind of makes sense if you're in the snow. Heimstern Läufer 03:07, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I also prefer the one Trey linked to. However, the newest one (here) has a nice touch that I like: snow sitting on the letters. Unless bleed0range can add the snow to the older one (he explained that it's a difficult task to create these things), I think we should stick with the logo Trey linked to. —FireBird|Talk 03:13, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I had a slightly different take on it. Here is our current logo frozen over. I used elements from our current logo and the ones above. I found the falling snow to be a little too much, so I didn't put it in this one. — It's dot com 04:43, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I like the frozen over one. -- Tom 04:47, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I want to use the Decemberween logo until the end of Christmas (I'd choose the first one posted), then I would love to switch over to that logo for a while! All great logos, here. —BazookaJoe 04:48, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I'd prefer it if we only use one logo. I like the blue background better, but I really like the snow. It's only for a few days, so I don;t think it would be all too distracting. Loafing 04:52, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I think we should use the one of the two red & green and falling snow logos until the end of Christmas (and change the "what's new" part of the Main page to green) — after the end of Christmas, go to the frozen-over one. I like them both, but to me, the red & green says "Decemberween" and the frozen one says "winter". Trey56 05:01, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
To clarify myself and elaborate: Image:Hrwiki dween logo.gif until the end of Christmas, then Image:HRWiki logo frozen.gif for a while beyond that. Let's compromise, please. Bleedy made a very nice logo and he worked very hard to make it. These are both great Decemberween- and Winter-themed logos, respectively, and I would like to see them both used. Four days of animated falling snow is a very short time, and it deserves at least that much. —BazookaJoe 05:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it's best that we don't let something like that go to waste. I suggest that we put it up now. Then change it to the Decemberween logo. And then after that we change it back to the falling snow one until after the New Years. Or we could just try that alternating thing...--H*Bad 05:24, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Just to clarify: I am calling the falling snow one the Decemberween one. The one It's dot com uploaded I would like to call Winter or Frozen, if I may. —BazookaJoe 05:29, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Reverse what I said. Snow falling one, Decemberween one. The one that Dot com made, could be used until New Years.--H*Bad 05:36, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I think we should take BazookaJoe's suggestion (D'ween colors now; switch to the frozen one after Christmas). The fast falling snow just doesn't look right, so I think we should use the original D'ween one. I wish the one with the slower falling snow looked more like the smiling pose, but oh well. I'm sure it could be tweaked, but given the lateness of the month, I think we should do whatever we're gonna do right away. — It's dot com 05:53, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Seconded. Trey56 05:57, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

I see it, personally. It may just be you, there. Bluebry 17:04, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
Dag, yo... kai lyn 17:05, 20 December 2006 (UTC)
It's probably because your computer is blocking that image from showing. It's happened to me already on many pages.--H*Bad 05:06, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
I think it's because it has "short shorts" in the title. You probably have parental settings on your computer that block that. My parents did it to me before, I couldn't get on the "Teen Girl Squad" pages. :) SaltyTalk! 06:03, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
Ack-haying the parental controls is easier than you might think. Sometimes, all you have to do is bypass them with a different browser. There are also other methods.--The4swordImage:The4swordssigpicisbetterthanyours.PNG 21:23, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] So many DVDs, so little time

Back when there was only a small number of DVDs it was simple. Now, with so many for sale, it's a little more confusing for the new fan to know where to find a particular toon on a DVD. For example, the article for The System is Down does indicate there is DVD commentary, but it does not list which DVD it is on. I'm thinking it easily could indicate that this toon is found on Everything Else, Volume 1 in the article. Proposing, as a project for a few industious type people, that (1) somewhere in the article in some way (what that way is should be discussed) that the toon is available on a specific DVD, and/or (2) categories for the contents of each DVD be created.

I'm thinking we divide it down to the volume it's contained on. This means there are 4 strongbad_email.exe DVDs and 2 Everything Else DVDs currently. Thoughts, proposals and comments are welcome. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 22:34, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Ooh, yes. This needs doing. — It's dot com 22:46, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Good idea — for the link to the specific DVD, I'm thinking of the heading, so instead of "DVD Version", change it to either "DVD Version" or "DVD Version (Everything Else, Volume 1)". Trey56 22:51, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps it should go up in the main headers. I think the name of the DVD should be spelled out, not hidden in a piped link. Whatever system we come up with, it needs to be easily expandable to incorporate future DVDs. — It's dot com 22:54, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
Oh, so you mean something like this:

Cast (in order of appearance): Homestar Runner, Strong Bad, Bubs

Places: Error Page

Date: January 22, 2003

Running Time: 1:05

Page Title: 404 Doodoo Error

DVD Version: Everything Else, Volume 1

That's a good idea too. Trey56 23:06, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
I like Trey's format. I additionally volunteer to get a few done, when the time comes. — Lapper (talk) 00:31, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
With so many DVD's, I think that this fromat will come in handy. I don't really like "DVD Version" though. Maybe just plain "DVD"? I also offer my services when we put this in place. - link_icon.gifThe Joe(Talk) 00:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I like the idea. I want to pair up both Trey's format and DVD-specific categories. One stipulation: Any toons that are not DVD-only could maybe have the DVD Version: line go directly underneath the "DVD Version" section. I also would like to split the categories ([1], [2]) into Category:strongbad_email.exe Disc 1; strongbad_email.exe Disc 2; strongbad_email.exe Disc 3; strongbad_email.exe Disc 4; Everything Else, Volume 1; and Everything Else, Volume 2. So maybe we should make a template similar to {{Comp}} that will automagically include the category with the line. —BazookaJoe 01:19, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Would DVD version be confused with regional formats? Is there a better wording? Maybe Included on DVD:? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:26, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I was also thinking that DVD Version: could be confusing. I was thinking of just plain DVD:, but whatever works. —BazookaJoe 03:33, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, DVD is just vaguely specific enough to be perfect. — Lapper (talk) 03:37, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
DVD: works. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:39, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Sounds good to me too. Trey56 05:14, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
/me likes it. Loafing 05:28, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
We could have DVD: and DVD exclusive: to make it more obvious what kind of toon it is. Loafing 05:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Great idea — that will make it clear which ones are web-only, DVD-only, and both. Trey56 06:02, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Last thing to figure out before we make all the changes: does the "DVD:" heading go at the very top of the page (along with page title, running time, etc.), or underneath the "DVD Version" header? I say, put it at the very top of the page — that way you can see exactly where you can view the toon without having to read to the bottom. I know there are times in the past where I've had trouble figuring out on a page whether the toon could be viewed on the web or not. Trey56 06:21, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
What should the category be? "[Name of DVD] Features"? "[Name of DVD] Contents"? "[Name of DVD] Toons" doesn't seem to fit, because not everything is a toon. — It's dot com 06:32, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Why even put Contents/Features into the category title? Isn't it implied? Could be. Someone comes across the category at the bottom of a toon's page and infers that that category has everything related to the DVD disc, including all other toons... because that toon is already in the category. —BazookaJoe 06:47, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Yes, I think that's a good idea. See the current sandbox. In addition, I think the encompassing categories need to be changed to strongbad_email.exe DVD series and Everything Else DVD series (or with Series capitalized in both cases) instead of just DVD. — It's dot com 16:46, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I like the ideas and everything, but why do we need the word "series" for? I like the plain name categories more. Elcool (talk)(contribs) 17:47, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Because Everything Else isn't just one DVD, and neither is strongbad_email.exe. They are each a series of DVDs, and the category name should reflect that. These two categories are the ones I'm suggesting need a name change. — It's dot com 18:08, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
Lest we forget - is there further discussion needed here, or should a plan of action ensue? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 03:46, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
The two things that I'm not sure whether we decided are (1) does the data go at the top of the page or under "DVD Version"? and (2) what should the names of the categories be? I haven't been following the second question, but as soon as we figure out the first question, we can start adding in the templates (cats can be sorted out as the templates are being added). I think the consensus has been leaning towards the top of the page, but it's not entirely clear to me. Trey56 05:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Top sounds good. --DorianGray
I also think that makes the most sense. That way the reader can see from the very top of the page whether the toon is web-only, DVD-only, or both. I'm gonna get started on adding the templates to the sbemails. Trey56 05:24, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
Gotta be the top, that's where people would look. And I'm for sub-categories. Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 05:25, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

Okay, the template has been added to the four strongbad_email.exe disks, which the exception of a few issues we found while looking through the bonus features:

Done Standardize headings for Scroll Button Songs (video)
Done Standardize headings for strongbad_email.exe Disc Two Karaoke videos
Done Standardize headings for Secret Song (video)
Done Create Moving Very Slowly (video)
Done Create The Cheatar (making of) — title may not be best, check with DVD first

To do Make sure the right thing was done in keeping the titles on the strongbad_email.exe bonus features.

Next up: Everything Else. Trey56 07:18, 10 January 2007 (UTC)

I think we need to create the category pages for this project. I like the way it is now (the name of the category is the name of the disc). And I still think that Category:Everything Else, Volume 1 and Category:Everything Else, Volume 2 need to go in Category:Everything Else DVD Series (or something similar, instead of what we currently have, which is just plain "DVD"), to emphasize the fact that it's not just one DVD, but several in a set. — It's dot com 05:23, 11 January 2007 (UTC)
I'll do it. I love category-making. What should it say in description? --DorianGray
I've also noticed that a lot of these pages need to have the obsolete categories removed, but so far they haven't been. — It's dot com 05:44, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Okay, this has gone tooooooooo far.

You keep using that word waayyyyyyyyy toooooooooooo muuuuuuuuuuuuch, even when other words like "spoof" or "reference" would be appropriate. I swear that if you looked it up in the Dictionary of the HRWiki, it'd say "See GOD" right next to it. Honestly, you use it like it's the Bible or something. This website alone is what made me consider that word in the league with "da**" and "sh**". Please change as many instances of this word as possible. — 76.184.188.124 (Talk | contribs) 13:12, 16 January 2007 (UTC) (left unsigned)

Just to be clear, you're griping about the word parody, corrcect? Qermaq - (T/C) Image:Qermaqsigpic.png 13:18, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
according to dictionary.com
  • Parody: any humorous, satirical, or burlesque imitation, as of a person, event, etc.
  • Spoof: a mocking imitation of someone or something, usually light and good-humored; lampoon or parody.
according to thesaurus.com
  • Synonyms of parody: caricature, farce, girlie show, lampoon, lampoonery, mock, mockery, parody, pastiche, peep show, revue, satire, send-up, sham, skin show, spoof, strip, takeoff, travesty
  • Synonyms of Spoof: bluff, bon mot, burlesque, caricature, cheat, deceit, deception, fake, flimflam, game, hoax, imposture, jest, joke, lampoon, mockery, parody, phony, prank, put-on, quip, satire, sell, send-up*, sham, take-off, travesty, trickery, wisecrack
I R F 14:11, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
Parody pops up on 109 pages on this wiki. Spoof has 34 sightings. Reference has 423 appearances, and almost all of those aren't just "Inside/Real-World References" headers. If anything "reference" is overused here... - Joshua 15:22, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
I think we should replace all instances of parody with girlie show or bon mot. Or maybe not. I R F 15:37, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
If you're going to gripe, gripe about something worth griping about. Perhaps the overuse of the clause "in the Homestar Runner universe" starting non-transcript articles. — Lapper (talk) 15:39, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
There are a lot of that. Personally I like, the Homestar Runner universe because the only alternative would be to used website or homestarrunner.com which are both tacky. I R F 15:43, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Dividing Transcripts

Warning! Radical idea alert! I've been thinking we should add subsections to the Transcripts in our cartoon articles. I'm fully aware that this sounds a lot simpler than it will really be, if we choose to do it. To better describe what I'm thinking, I've put an example in the Sandbox. — SamSF%20sig.jpgFisher (Come in, Lambert.) 17:09, 16 January 2007

I think it's a good try, but I don't think there's enough of a benefit to justify doing it, not even counting the fact that it would clutter up the table of contents. I personally feel that the transcripts are hard to read, but I just don't think this particular method is the solution. (Unfortunately, I'm still at a loss for what the solution might be, though that didn't stop me from trying something out myself.) — It's dot com 22:44, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
