The Story of Cartoon Characters Who Look at a Thing Inside of a Bag

The Characters from Yonder Website look inside of paper bags and learn a lesson about sharing.

Transcript

{Open to a light blue background, with soft music playing. The title slowly zooms out: a banner reading "characters from yonder website", and a bubble featuring cartoony stylizations of Strong Bad and Homestar Runner. Throughout, Strong Bad speaks in a soft, relaxed tone.}

STRONG BAD: {voiceover} Let's let it all slip away, with another soothing episode of: Characters from Yonder Website. That's right.

{The words "that's right" are added at the bottom}

STRONG BAD: Brought to you by a grant from: GreenCheat.

{The GreenCheat logo appears on screen}

STRONG BAD: And our corporate sponsors: Smarty Juice.

{A bottle of "Swirly Font Flavored" Smarty Juice replaces the GreenCheat logo}

STRONG BAD: A Faceless Megacorp—

{A simple, circular logo with the words "Faceless Megacorp" and some black and white hills replaces the Smarty Juice}

STRONG BAD: —with a couple of hills in the logo. Look at those hills. Plant some crops... and grow some smarty juice plants. {as he speaks, crop lines appear on one of the hills, from which dozens of plants sprout, each bearing bottles of Smarty Juice} Alright, far out.

{Fade to black}

{Fade in to a soft blue background where Character 1, Character 6, and Character 7 are sitting around the couch}

CHARACTER 1: Baybobaybobaybobaybobaybo.

STRONG BAD: What's that now, Character 1? You want a drink?

CHARACTER 1: Mahpo.

STRONG BAD: Well then now, everyoney. Who wants to get Character 1 a little drink?

CHARACTER 6: {unintelligible The Cheat noises}

STRONG BAD: Character 6... won't get a drink.

CHARACTER 7: DADOHDADOHDAH!

STRONG BAD: And Character 7... is sassin' back. That's right. Well now, how's Character 1 going to get his drink now?

{Character 6 leaps up}

STRONG BAD: Oh, Character 6 here has a plan. Let's all go over to The Stick, far out.

{Cut to The Stick (a line with some smaller lines sticking out of it). Characters 1, 6, and 7 are all looking in paper bags (squares with a zig-zag pattern on top). Character 2 walks in.}

STRONG BAD: And just on time, in walks everybody's favorite, Character 2. Everyone say hi to Character 2.

CHARACTER 2: Beeboblabopaboo?

CHARACTER 1: Bahpobahpo.

STRONG BAD: Character 2 here, would like to know, what is it that Characters 1, 6, and 7 are up to? Well of course, they're looking at a thing in a bag, far right.

CHARACTER 2: Beebobahboobeebohploo?

CHARACTER 1: Meepoblahpo. {Characters 1, 6, and 7 close their bags}

STRONG BAD: Oh, and look at that. Character 2 wants to see a thing in a bag... but Characters 1, 6, and 7 would not like to share their bags. {a bell rings} Everyone knows what that bell means; it's time for the lesson! Now there, Character 2, let us go on an inordinately long walk, over to the Stand of Character 4!

{Character 2 walks to the right. Cut to an empty Yonder Website background. Character 2 walks from the left side to the right side of the screen. Cut again. Character 2 walks from the left to the right, this time farther in the background. Cut again. Character 2 walks from the right to the left, closer to the camera, obscuring the background as he walks by. Cut to the Stand. Character 4 is doing a slight dance.}

CHARACTER 4: {singing unintelligibly}

STRONG BAD: And look at that! Character 4 has thought up with a good dance. Let's dance along, everybody, to Character 4!

{Character 2 starts bending at the knees. Cut to a close-up of the two characters. Then a panning shot from left to right. Then a wide shot.}

STRONG BAD: Come along now! That's right!

{They stop dancing}

STRONG BAD: And what would you want to have now, Character 2?

CHARACTER 2: Bleeblohbeebahbohmeepo. {a thought balloon with a bottle appears above him}

CHARACTER 4: Rahblohblahrohsleblorohrahsleblo. {gives him four bottles}

STRONG BAD: Nice work, everybody! Character 4... shared his Smarty Juice.

CHARACTER 4: {singing unintelligibly}

CHARACTER 2: {bends at the knees}

{The dancing continues for a few seconds. Character 2 walks back to The Stick, where Characters 1, 6, and 7 are.}

CHARACTER 2: Atadabomehdabeybobedebuh. {gives them each a bottle and walks away, leaving his bottle on the ground}

STRONG BAD: Look now, Character 2 has shared his Smarty Juices with Characters 1, 6, and even 7, far out!

{Character 4 walks in}

CHARACTER 4: Rahrohsleroblahrohslerohblo. {picks up Character 2's bottle}

{Character 2 walks back in}

CHARACTER 2: {with a worried expression} Blebloblahblozebleh! {drools}

STRONG BAD: Oh, dear. What craziness is going on over here? {Cut to Character 4} Character 4 here has stolen poor Character 2's drink! {Cut to Character 2} And now Character 2 is sad, look at that.

CHARACTER 2: Beebobahpobeeboo.

CHARACTER 1: Beebomahpohbeebo. {hands Character 2 his bag}

CHARACTER 2: {happily} Baybobaybobaybo! {puts the bag on his head}

STRONG BAD: And now a happy ending! {Cut to Character 2} Character 2 has gotten the bag he's always wanted.

{Cut to a wide shot}

STRONG BAD: Listen me this, everybody! Let's all have some Smarty Juice.

{Everyone drinks their bottle, including Character 2, who pulls one from hammerspace behind him. After a few seconds, everyone's face shrinks and they fall down.}

{Cut to an extremely colorful background full of differently-colored shapes and dots. Sketchy, wiggling outlines of shapes, vaguely resembling Characters 1, 2, 4, 6, and 7, appear. Some of them jump up and down, some of them rotate, some teleport to another area on the screen. Occasionally, another character will float by. Simple, short, repetitive music plays, sounding similarly to a kids' xylophone, playing the same few notes over and over again. This continues for half a minute.}

CHARACTER 2-LIKE SHAPE: {long low computery-sounding beep}

{A sketchy speech bubble reading "THE END" appears from the Character 2-like shape's mouth.}

Easter Eggs

  • Click the Character 2-like shape to see another cartoon.
{The Character 2-like shape pulls out a strange box shape, drawn in the same style as the characters. He drinks from it. Cut to a black background. White shapes appear in random places on the screen for a frame or two, then disappear. It is mostly silent, except for occasional sound effects, such as piano keys being smashed. This continues for all eternity.}

"No probalo!"

Snorer Chard-gate first approved of the Wrestlem'n Compooter-Machine some of cool, in which the guy with the mask is flasked about the most stylish of Belindas. He descrivals about all of a cone-offer trangle-down with two beards. Once of them are, in the words of face-man, "so much cool [and] you do not understand". Cord-rage Jones is apparently creepin' cross the streetway, at these guys' house a little times ago, who was a sketch and gifted the elephant nicemares. This guy is rounding his own morguetake and maybe a drivey-round type thing, in alsoddition to grappling a jorb as that chicken movie man. He has maybe also gotten nineteen-juan of those Interweb universary net-sights during his munch brake, and clue-ding some type of cool dance he has to do in ninety-twelve staples all the thyme. His moneyker is propernounced "Stave", because the spelling is not safe for little childrens. He is appearancely ambidextrosity, Bertelda. (mayo...)

Smarty Juice

Down the hatch!

Smarty Juice is a type of beverage that comes in a greenish-brown glass bottle with an orange label, available in "Swirly Font" flavor. Its side effects include "drowsiness, euphoria, and unbelievably soothing children's programming", implying possible alcohol or drugs. It is first mentioned in the Skills of an Artist episode Cartoon Characters, when Strong Bad compares Homestar Runner's eyes as he draws them to "Smarty Juice drops".

In the Cartoon Characters-inspired toon Characters from Yonder Website, Strong Bad, Homestar, The Cheat, Strong Mad, Coach Z, Bubs and presumably Marzipan drink ten-year expired Smarty Juice, which causes them to somehow hallucinate and act in the titular children's show. Strong Sad, deciding that the side effects sound okay, drinks a bottle himself and joins them in the show. The drink is stated to be a sponsor for the show, and may have some relation to Faceless Megacorp, another sponsor.

Ants

You will respect and condone Mean Sean!

While there are many Bugs in Free Country, USA, ants are given attention for reasons both irritating and comedic.

Appearances

  • Email 1 step ahead — In the "maybe" option, The Cheat brings a bucket full of red ants into Strong Sad's room after finding out that gluing his hands to his face hadn't caused Strong Sad any pain.
  • I think I have a chance with this guyWhat's Her Face sings that she wants to put some ants on the boy who called her.
  • Sensitive to Bees — At the end of the song, Homestar sings that he not only likes to play with trees, but also with ants.
  • Email long pants — Strong Bad edits the email he receives so the closing reads "Some ants toot", and laughs at it.
  • Email unnatural — Confronted with a giant Bubs, Homestar comes to the conclusion that Bubs has turned them all into ants and proceeds to act like one.

Photo Boooth

"I think this might be a... haunted photo booth!"
Not to be confused with the Snap Shak.

The Photo Boooth is the namesake vending machine of Haunted Photo Booth and the "crown jewel" of Marzipan's 2017 Halloween party, used to take photos of all twelve main characters. It has an orange curtain and features a haunted mansion backdrop, although different backgrounds are available, such as a wooden background and a live action photo of a forest. Photos are fed through a large slot in the side of the booth in strips of three. Unlike a normal photo booth, it doesn't seem to require payment in order to be operated.

The booth was thought to be haunted as a result of The Cheat's gold tooth producing a very ghost-like glare in every photo it appeared in (surprisingly many, as explained by Strong Sad at the end of the toon). Strong Bad in particular was convinced that the booth would give him "demonic barf powers", but was disappointed when the ghost failed to appear in any of his photos— although he succeeded in summoning images of Jaundiced Jerry and Stabby Gabby when he invoked their names.

There are props available, such as Y2K sunglasses, a handlebar mustache, bacon, and spicy nachos. The Photo Boooth was apparently stolen from a wedding by Homestar Runner, at Marzipan's command, although it is implied they were planning to return it.

Strong Bad Making a Surprised Face At the End of an Easter Egg in Response to a Suggestive Comment

Strong Bad, like anyone, often looks surprised when he hears a suggestive comment, but he seems to specifically do so in the last frame of Easter eggs.

Appearances

  • Email garage sale — In response to Coach Z saying he is okay to say "gar-bahge", which implies he is or will be a mother.
  • Email space program — In response to Coach Z saying "doo time" is better than peeing in a cup.
  • Best Caper Ever — In response to Bubs suggesting that he, not The Cheat, fill up a container for bodily waste.

Depressing

The word "depressing" is frequently used out-of-context in the Homestar Runner body of work, usually in relation to Strong Sad and Coach Z.

Strong Sad

  • Yearbook Character Page — Strong Sad is referred to as a "depressing lump".
  • Email impression — Coach Z refers to what Strong Sad typically says as "depressing-type stuff".
  • A Folky Tale — The townsolk, overcome with laughter, suggest that Saddy Dumpington say something "miserable and depressing". He only makes them laugh harder.
  • Yahoo Store — The Strong Sad shirt is compared to "a gray and depressing Santa Claus".
  • Strong Badia the Free:
    • "Oh, great. Stuck under house arrest with no one but Little Lord FATleroy, the most depressing kid brother ever left on the front porch by gross gypsies."
    • "Only Strong Sad could make a flag both depressing and so utterly forgettable."
  • Marzipan's Ansering Machine Version 16.2:
    • Strong Sad changes Marzipan's outgoing message to, in part, "Please organize your thoughts for Marzipan in order of least depressing to most depressing."
    • Bubs thinks that Marzipan sounds "fat, depressing, and Allan Poe" with Strong Sad's voice.
  • FeedBurner Page — Strong Sad says of the Decemberween cards, "Now you can share in the wonder of writing something extremely dark and depressing inside and cheerful holiday card."
  • Marzipan's Answering Machine Version 17.2 — Strong Sad wonders why he isn't depressing anymore, then insults his former self as being "not depressing".
